It doesn’t sound as if Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau expects the team’s latest addition, big man John Henson, to crack the center rotation, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
“The John Henson signing was just insurance,” Thibodeau said. “Felt we wanted to get a look at both [Henson and fellow recently-added big man Norvel Pelle). We had a roster spot available and that’s what we chose to do with it. I like the idea of it.”
With center Mitchell Robinson out indefinitely after undergoing a surgery to address a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot last month, the team still expects to lean on veteran big men Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson to soak up most of the minutes at center.
There’s more out of the Atlantic Division:
- Sixers head coach Doc Rivers acknowledged that he does not know when new addition George Hill will make his Philadelphia debut, tweets Derek Bodner of The Athletic. The veteran point guard is still recovering from a February thumb surgery. “I can’t see it anytime soon,” Rivers said. “I had that same injury. That’s not anything you mess around with. Just one whack, you may not get injured, but the pain is excruciating because the nerves are so raw. So we’re gonna try to be as tentative as possible with his injury.”
- New Celtics shooting guard Evan Fournier will likely miss Boston’s games for the rest of the week as he remains in the NBA’s coronavirus health and safety protocols, tweets Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald. “We hope that it’s as little time as possible but (it’s) still part of what you have to get used to this year,” Boston head coach Brad Stevens said during an interview with Boston FM radio program Zolak and Bertrand on 98.5 The Sports Hub, as recapped by Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston (Twitter link).
- After missing one game due to the league’s coronavirus health and safety protocols, first-year Sixers point guard Tyrese Maxey has been cleared to return to the court, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer (via Twitter). Maxey, the No. 21 pick out of Kentucky in the 2020 NBA draft, has shown plenty of promise across a limited 14.9 MPG, averaging 7.4 PPG, 1.7 RPG and 1.6 APG in 42 appearances.
For the TWO Geniuses who know the Knicks. But don’t know BALL…….. !! BOOM !!
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau discussed the team’s recent signing of center John Henson to a 10-day deal recently, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic. “The John Henson signing was just insurance,” Thibodeau said. “Felt we wanted to get a look at both [Henson and fellow recently-added big man Norvel Pelle]. We had a roster spot available and that’s what we chose to do with it. I like the idea of it.”

You lose your best big. You have to add another. It’s not Rocket Science. Center by committee. Oh and just so you know, Thibs got me on his cell.
You have a cell phone? I was expecting a rotary phone.
(j/k, Al)
Talks about others not watching a team, which he is wrong about, and then argues with a Heat fan about Hassan Whiteside
And has a very unhealthy obsession with bigs….
I’m the guy who explained your new NAME to you. You didn’t know this guy existed till he signed a contract with Rockets. This board is still waiting for your Apology to Chris. Your Apology to a 22 win Knicks team. To all the disrespect to Rocket killers.
Suns – 35-14
Nets – 35-16
Knicks – 26-26
Wizards – 17-32
Rockets – (13 – 37) Worst win total in NBA.
Minny – 13 – 38. And Rockets pick will go to Thunder …….. you got 20 gms to root for your team to lose them all. So god willing you keep your pick. You gave away all your picks. Then the players you got for those picks. And now you are Worse than all the teams you traded with . Dude you and
( formertyz ) should get a room and compare notes.
Really….. I’m the one that wanted Whiteside. You’re the fool who goes to battle over Knicks looking for a big. So you couldn’t take it from me. But now bow down for Thibs. I’m the guy who will tell you what he will do before he does it. Take up another sport. All you got is rants and no philosophy. Stats don’t explain the game. They are used to tell the story of the game. The truth is in the eye of the beholder. If he knows what He’s watching. Or actually watches.
You started a “battle” getting mad about someone else saying a team doesnt need bigs b/c they have multiple good options there, and are better than the 2 options you’re looking at, and need shooting on the wing. You started throwing around insults and bringing it up on multiple threads unprovoked. You called people children, while acting like one yourself, and now are trying to create your own narratives…
You’re talking about Hassan Whiteside or Andre Drummond helping in areas where they dont do those things, and arguing about Whiteside with someone that watched him play for their own team for 5 years, and then saying that person knows nothing b/c he never watched your team, which isn’t even correct. You claim to be some sort of chief authority over winning basketball, yet you havent seen a winner since 1972, so go ahead and pretend to be some sort of basketball god. I’m not going to stop you, but maybe have some awareness
Who won in 1972 ?????? Dude your Aaa must be painful all the BS you pull out of it. Gezz can we possibly see who won in 1972. Oh you mean the Lakers … what exactly does a lesson on champions have do with Knicks replacing Mitch. Another alien from Uranus.
Clearly I meant the 72-73 season. I would say you’ve entered sad territory, but I think that happened a while back
Oh really obviously. Like obviously we don’t need a big . Knicks were in Finals in 99. And if Patrick wasn’t hurt it would have been different. So again what does a history of NBA champions have to do with Knicks replacing Mitch. Again talking out your Aaa
The fact that you’ve spouted being the know all of winning basketball, while claiming others have zero knowledge of the game
TBF your teams record is not an indication of a fans knowledge. You can know winning basketball and support a team that does not or support a winning team and know nothing.
I agree with that, but I’m speaking more to things that were previously suggested by them
Wow almost word for word what I’ve been saying, but remember “more than anything they need a big desperately. They need all the help at center they can get. Taj gibson and Nerlens Noel arent centers.” And yet…we’re taking a look at both of them to have insurance in case of other injuries, and noel and gibson will still play mostly all the minutes at center, with Randle and Toppin obviously also seeing minutes there…what a shocking revelation. Probably has nothing to do with Noel and Gibson playing extremely well, and holding things down just fine. Nothing at all to do with the knIcks having been 10-9 without Mitchell Robinson before their loss to the Nets, and 15-16 with him. Absolutely, they are massively struggling to hold it down, and desperately need bigs more than shooting on the wing outside of Bullock and Quickley. That additional big definitely wont just be depth at all…
There are no shooters. Or why don’t you gives us their names. Trade deadline has passed. We will get the offense we need next yr. Do you understand Knicks are rebuilding. Thibs has coached 51 gms. They are building around a core of Mitch, Randle, RJ. No one cares about Noel or Taj. I doubt they’ll even be on the team next yr. Getting a big is all about depth for this yr only. All four of those players will be gone next yr. Only Taj could stay cause he is a Thibs vet and can mentor other players. Just an alien from Uranus.
Never said anything about next year, and so now you’re changing the narrative there as well. I’ve mentioned multiple potential options. 1 just signed with the Lakers. There are still multiple guys currently available in free agency, and there were also multiple guys available cheaply before the deadline, not that it has anything to do with the fact that those options are available in free agency currently
Saying a team needs shooting more than a position they already have several pieces at has nothing to do with hating on their rebuild into the future. It just means that they need shooting at those positions
None of that matters till they get a point guard leader. That’s why they lose close games. I don’t believe that Randall should be playing point too many turn overs. Coach has Quickly playing off the ball, that makes him very mediocre. On and on problems imo. Sign life long knick fan.
Quickley is a really good catch and shoot guy, which plays well off Randle and Barrett.
That’s very true. A real PG and more offense. Will take them to next level. But you can’t do it now. And the only guy at TD I’d be good with is Fournier. Still want him as FA. There was nobody that made sense in a trade. There’s no rush to do this. We can sign a PG and wing in FA. Or we can trade for one with our picks. Or draft one. Knicks have just started the process here. Just hurts when you are competing for a playoff spot. To lose the anchor of your D, your best defensive player. You cant replace that in the Buy Out market.. But adding a true big helps.
Why did the sixers make the trade if he never plays?
Because it was a smart move! First he should likely play the final 10-15 games, if he returns in 1-2 weeks. 2nd he is an upgrade over the talent we sent out (and 2nd rounders). 3 he allows Shake to slide to the 2 in the playoffs where he won’t carry the burden of being primary ball handler and shot creator on the 2nd unit. 4 the guys we traded were not going to appear in the playoffs outside of garbage time. 5 even if he does not play this year (and he will) he is a better asset next season both as a player and/or a trade chip on an expiring contract. It’s pretty simple really that this was a good move.
I am Celtic fan, but the vibe in the Knicks organization is trending up and that is a gold thing for the league.
