Jabari Parker‘s new contract with the Celtics runs for two seasons and includes a pair of guarantee dates for 2021/22, according to Jared Weiss and Jason Jones of The Athletic. Parker will receive $100K if he remains on the roster through July 31 – although that date could change if the league calendar is adjusted – and another $1,041,517 if he is still with the team at the start of next season. According to The Athletic’s sources, those combined figures are half of his total $2,283,034 salary with Boston.
The Celtics represent the latest chance for Parker, who was the second player chosen in the 2014 draft. Injuries and other factors have prevented Parker from establishing himself, as Boston will be his seventh team in seven years. He played three games for the Kings this season before being waived last month.
Former Sacramento general manager Vlade Divac was intrigued enough by Parker to trade for him at last year’s deadline, Jones states, but Parker was injured and out of shape when he reported to the team. He contracted COVID-19 before the summer restart, which prevented him from making any impact in Orlando. He was in better condition when training camp began in December, but suffered a back injury and took time away from the team for personal reasons.
There’s more from the Atlantic Division:
- The Celtics‘ decision to waive Moritz Wagner to make room for Parker was a matter of fit, Weiss and Jones add. Luke Kornet has established himself as the team’s third center and Grant Williams has been playing in the middle in small-ball lineups. Wagner doesn’t have a next team lined up yet, but he will try to return to the league this season, a source tells the authors. He wouldn’t be eligible for the playoffs with a new team because he was on Boston’s roster past April 9.
- The Knicks‘ path toward becoming playoff contenders began with a mini-camp last summer, writes Steve Popper of Newsday. While 22 teams were in Orlando for the restart, the other eight were given permission to have a two-week session with players and coaches. That gave newly-hired Tom Thibodeau a chance to get to know his personnel and introduce his system.
- The Raptors have been fined $25K for “failing to comply with league policies governing player rest and injury reporting,” the NBA announced (via Twitter).
I could see Wagner making sense for Toronto, Heat, and Spurs, and lowkey Knicks
Perhaps Golden State too, now that Wiseman is out for good
GS could be a possibility because he would be eligible for play-in games.
I could see Wagner buying a house with the money he has made so far and playing in Europe for 1M a year or so.
All those three teams have worse records than Knicks. So Wagner and your LOWLY self esteem can go there. Wagner wouldn’t be allowed in the Garden.
Ha ha ha jhaaaa haaaaa gagajhhaaa ha hHAaHA HA
HAHa haha HA ha ha ha HA HAHahi hihihihohoho ha
You still spout without knowing facts. Flush ……
Are you having a stroke? He said lowkey; not lowly
What was that muahaha-ing? NYK are only 1.5 games out of play-in range and just let go of Henson, are using Toppin less, and run an offense going through the 4. Wagner can facilitate and was improving every year until Boston.
Not sure about Boston. Looking at box scores, he had DNPs and good low-minutes games, especially in rebounds, then one game with 3 turnovers in 5 minutes and got booted. I can see Stevens not knowing what to do with him.
Wagner ???? You too. Why keep showing your ignorance. Why would Knicks have anything to do with him. We got three picks in top 33 in draft and 55 mill in cap space next yr. And the geniuses think Wagner is somehow a player. And why now when rosters are set for playoffs. Knicks are a 1/2 gm out of 4th seed. Yet you want to mention a play in gm. More insightful ignorance. Any REAL Knick fan would be happy with a play in gm this yr. But considering where we are and what’s within reach. Any athlete goes for the most they can get. Overachieving is a sign of dedication and hard work. Why must you think every post needs your take. I doubt you’ve ever watched the Knicks this yr. like the the guy who I’m responding to. Yet somehow yet Again you can’t help yourself. That’s the definition of a TROLL
You’re not making sense. You misread forerlyz’ s post and you messed up mine. I doubt you are literate, which is why you have to dictate your posts. You get a few words and guess the rest.
Opinions of Wagner will vary. He’s not a starter but could add to an offense not just stand in lane being heavy or tall. I missed on “play-in”…IDK but NY could use a playmaking backup Randle for the playoffs, not just the big lugs MR, Noel, Pelle, and the rookie.
Why do you babble so much about unrelated things. So what, how many picks the Knicks have next year? I am not insulting the Knicks, just advising, like you do banally, to the Cavs too. I add information, you add pablum unless trying to big-time someone. All you do is go team to team saying the youth is good and the olds get rid of. Bullcrap undifferentiated advise but good for a guy dictating while sitting in a car watching the boys.
And you miss on “troll” too (“you think every post needs your take”), unless you include yourself with it. I also go on too long too… like you do.
Bamba makes more sense, Richaun Holmes too.
Why did nba fine Raptors $25k?
Many fans are enjoying tanking
NBA awards the tanking?
Teams need to tell a lie about players injury
IMO
Tanking is the key to success
Honesty and transparency are the most important in regard to tanking
Why??? You know the NBA hates Canada.
Lol what?
Would like him off the bench for the Sixers.
Interesting how that ’14 draft ended up.
Rare time the big guy with injuries ends up outperforming multiple high grade wing prospects; Embiid has lapped both Wiggins and Parker multiple times at this point.
Both were supposed to be sure fire stars if not superstars. Wiggins is a starter nothing more and Parker is about to be out of the league.
I liked Parker. I thought he would be a stud. Injuries cost him his best game. Wiggins I thought was a no. 3 option. I didn’t see stardom. His makeup then and now, questionable.
Yup it’s ironic bc Wiggins was supposed to be the high ceiling low floor guy, and Parker was supposed to pretty much have a ready made NBA game
Wiggins only developed offensive skill coming out was dunking the ball. And to his credit he’s improved his shooting to where you could call him a 3 & D guy and not get laughed at.
Parker, to me, is the bigger disappointment. I don’t think injuries cost him a lot—his game was never super athletic. All he had to do was develop a league avg 3 point shot *or* not be a disaster defensively, and he’d at worst be a rotation guy into his early 30s.
It’s easier to just call them names.
Dope and fraud, guess which is which.
Wiggins actually had fine & quick agility and wiggle for his length, even inside. The good D was a mirage in a system that rewards offense. The con man could tell you about that. (Some people preSENT too well.)
Is noone gonna talk about how Tom Thibodeau looks kinda like The Penguin…
I just wish he let us know what was in the locker.
Thibs is the Master Informer. Funny how the right leader can make such a big difference. And it’s only year 1. So Curtis …. didn’t I tell you Kornet was ok. He’s a smart big that can shoot.
Is Parker playoff eligible for the Celtics?
I believe he is. Cause he signed a two yr contract. Needs to get in gm shape. Looked ok tonight.
Yes, because he was waived prior to the April 9 deadline. Anyone cut before that point can be signed to a team’s roster and still participate in the postseason
Wagner could get a chance with a team looking for a big for the rest of the regular season. I could see the Nets taking a look at him with LMA’s roster spot.
However, he could make more sense for a team fighting to play in the play-in games. Those are considered an extension of the regular season, so he would be eligible to play in them.
The Knicks got what they wanted from Silver’s bubble scheme. Most of the others did not.
The benefits of being the league office home team.
