Rajon Rondo will try to maximize the production of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George when he’s on the court for the Clippers, Mark Medina of USA Today writes. “I’ll try to get our two main guys the ball in a lot easier spots as far as them not having to work so hard to get the ball against a set defense,” Rondo said. “If we’re able to create the stops and get out on the break, it’s my job to advance the ball and let those guys attack one-on-one before the defense gets set.” Rondo has already noted opponent tendencies that his teammates have found helpful, Medina adds.
We have more on the Clippers:
- George has no issue with Rondo jumping right in as a team leader and sage voice, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN. “Rondo’s a leader, you know the point guard, he’s a leader,” George said. “We’re going to listen to him. I look at him as a leader, a leader of this group. He’ll hold a lot of weight. He holds a lot of weight in the locker room. As he gets more comfortable within our system, getting games under his feet, he’ll hold us accountable.”
- DeMarcus Cousins‘ 10-day contract will pay him $175,668, with $110,998 counting toward the cap, ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweets. Cousins was officially signed on Monday to provide frontcourt depth with Serge Ibaka currently out due to a back injury.
- A couple of tweaks could help both the starting lineup and second unit. A Western Conference scout told the Los Angeles Times’ Dan Woike the team should keep Ivica Zubac in the starting lineup, even when Ibaka returns. A executive within the conference believes the coaching staff should unleash Luke Kennard as the primary second-unit point guard.
Interesting. I assumed they traded for Rondo to attempt to minimize the production of Leonard and George.
I’d guess Lou Williams did not have good friendship with Kawhi
That is why the Clippers make trade
Will these two be worth lottery picks this year?
Johnny Juzang from UCLA
Timme Duncan from Gonzaga
Timme Duncan? Derp.
How old is juzang? Kid can flat out score, I like timme as a late first round pick playing a Thad young bench role, he’s a good passer with good size, but is he athletic enough to guard top tier nba big men, I’m not sure about that
Tim Duncan should do great.
Yes I thought Baylor would take it to Gonzaga. They play similar passing games but Baylor has more muscle and man on man determination. Fine skills at speed. Suggs is too young.
I think more to help close gms, manage gm, and get playmaker for Kawhi and PG. To minimize their iso play, especially at end of gms. As Celtics fan, you know he’s one of smartest players out there. All about playoffs with Rondo n Clippers.
Manage their iso play, just it.
Cut down dissension rather than add to it.
On another note, anyone remember just a few years back when Rondo was considered a bit of a bizarre malcontent? Now he is like Zen Master Rondo.
Rondo is a bad player to have on your team unless your a top 5 nba team, he will probably be the playoff mvp, if he was still in Atlanta he would probably be benched or more likely get a booboo early in their first playoff series
Unless Playoff Rondo shows up its gotta be his last year, he’s been awful all season.
Rondo has had radically different faces for his different teams and eras. He defies people who say a person can be only one thing. Rightnow he is terrible and may get called on his mentality, but one would have to go through PG13 first!
Quite odd indeed, too his credit he developed his outside shot a touch to respectable, w/out that I think he’s outta the league today
Rondo is overrated beyond belief. Dude barely tries most of the year and is slightly above average in playoffs. His pedestrian regular season numbers makes his postseason numbers really stand out, although that isn’t saying much.
The suns and jazz look to be the teams with everything and no glaring weaknesses. Should be interesting to see how lakers do once fully healthy but I think this years run will be much more difficult especially if nets make it to finals.
If 2005 Rondo shows up again, the Clippers will be as stoked as the Lakers last year. Problem is that father time and injuries are catching up.
2005 Rondo wasn’t in the NBA…he was a sophomore at Kentucky
Forget 2005 if we see 2012 or 2020 playoff Rondo then he will be the best version of himself coming postseason time.
Rondo is great addition for Clippers. He brings what they lack. Plus he’s playoff tested. All he needs to do is give them 16-20 mins. PG, Kawhi, Morris much more dangerous off the ball. What’s interesting to me. Lakers with injuries could fall to 6th seed. Clippers holding down 3rd seed. You know what that means.
1st round exit for the Clippers.
