Heat coach Erik Spoelstra refused to speculate on how much time Victor Oladipo might miss with an injured right knee and declined to say whether he thinks Oladipo will play again this season, writes Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. Oladipo suffered the injury Thursday and didn’t accompany the team on its four-game road trip. He is considered out indefinitely with “right knee soreness.”
After today’s practice in Portland, Spoelstra told reporters the organization is still in the “information gathering stage” regarding Oladipo.
“I don’t have a new update,” he said. “He’s not with us on this trip and he won’t be with us (Sunday). I don’t have any new information.”
Oladipo’s injury occurred on a non-contact play when he landed after a dunk. He underwent an MRI Friday, but the Heat haven’t released the results. X-rays taken Thursday came back negative.
“He really wanted to be with us and this team and we really like what he brings to our group,” Spoelstra said. “He complements who we are and what we do already so much on both sides of the floor. You do feel for guys, particularly this time of the year. The competition is going to another level. Players want to be out there.”
Here are some more injury updates from around the NBA:
- Wizards guard Bradley Beal missed tonight’s game with tightness in his back, but the team doesn’t believe the condition is related to his hip issue, according to Ava Wallace of The Washington Post (Twitter link). “Don’t think it’s going to be lasting,” coach Scott Brooks said. “I’m hoping that a day off today and a day off tomorrow, he’ll be back against Utah … that’s the hope.”
- The Lakers expect to have LeBron James back in about three weeks, sources tell ESPN. He has missed about three weeks so far with a high right ankle sprain.
- An MRI confirmed that Warriors forward Kelly Oubre has a sprained wrist, tweets Nick Friedell of ESPN. Oubre is sitting out tonight’s game, but the team hasn’t said how much time he might miss.
- George Hill hasn’t been able to play for the Sixers yet, but he participated in warm-ups before tonight’s game, tweets Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman. Hill is recovering from thumb surgery in February.
- Bulls forward Garrett Temple suffered a setback in his rehab from a right hamstring injury and could be out a while longer, according to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports (Twitter link). Coach Billy Donovan said Temple experienced an issue while running.
It will be interesting to see if anyone gives Oladipo more than the 2-year/$45.2M offer he allegedly turned down from the Rockets, or the 4-year/$80M extension he turned down when he was still with Indiana. Was that trade so bad for Houston?
Exactly right. He either got greedy or overestimated his value and now it’s going to cost him. He is about 2 seasons away from that bad injury and hadn’t shown anything to make a team think he is worth big money. Is he going to have to settle for the MLE?
In fairness to Oladipo he probably didn’t plan on getting injured again as he soon as he was traded to Miami.
If he stayed healthy and played well down the stretch he probably realistically felt he could get a better extension than offered
But yeah if he misses the rest of the season he’ll probably end up taking mid level money or a one year tender
We get it…
Dude the trade was bad cause you should of had LeVert, Allen instead. Even Dinwiddie, you had more value with these players. You can sign Olynyk as rotation guy and Bradley. Plus the Heat pick is a player. It would be ok to me. I always saw Oladipo as taking a chance on a hurt guy. Considering you are doing that with Wall. I saw that as a bad gamble. I’m just glad Knicks didn’t go for Oladipo.
Trade is terrible because you had to trade the best player you got from it while Cleveland landed their center of the future and the pacers replaced a good player who was always injured with a good player who plays, the rockets have picks and pick swaps with a team that won’t finish below 4th in the East for 2,3,4? Years
Of course that pick swap won’t help them this year, but they can swap the 2022 pick they get from Brooklyn for Miami’s first round pick. And the other two picks they get will be in 2024 and 2026. By then KD and Harden will both be well into their 30’s and even if they’re still playing there’s no guarantee that either of them (or Kyrie) will still be with the team. Those picks will be very good.
It’s just a matter of time. Could be one month, could be two months.
It’s a good decision to trade away Oladipo because both Wall and Oladipo shoot 32% from the three
The issue is that the proven young star from Harden deal is not qualified
Rockets should target someone similar as D Michell or D Booker on Harden deal
Can Rockets get lucky and get Cade? if they can get him they will already have a nice team with Wood,Martin,Porter and Cade
Exactly. They could get Cade, Mobley, or Suggs. Add any of those players to Wood, Wall, Gordon, Porter, Tate, and Martin we’re talking playoffs in 2022. And a few years after that, who knows?
At the end Dipo won’t have the big contract he thinks he deserves…
Great for houston he turned down the offer
NBA needs to look at the how often these player get injured with respect the number and frequency of games. I’ve always said the season is too long. Now they are cramming all but 10 games of a season in a shorter timeframe and I think it leads to a majority of these injuries. It’s not good if you have randos starting week to week because nobody can stay healthy. I’d rather each team play 2 at most 3 games a week. I feel like there would be less injuries and players would be fresher. I mean look what a 3 month layoff did for players in the bubble. I feel like the games were more entertaining. Quality over quantity is how the nba should look at their product especially when overproduction leads to injuries.
