Standout Gonzaga guard and probable top-five pick Jalen Suggs has opted to enter the 2021 NBA draft and will forgo his remaining college eligibility, he announced today on ESPN’s The Jump (link via Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com).
As a freshman on a star-studded Zags squad, Suggs put up relatively modest scoring numbers compared to other top prospects, ranking third on his team with 14.4 points per game.
However, Suggs filled up the box score with 5.3 RPG, 4.5 APG, and 1.9 SPG to go along with a .503/.337/.761 shooting line in 30 games (28.9 MPG), and had some memorable moments during Gonzaga’s run to the NCAA championship game, including a game-winning overtime buzzer beater in the team’s Final Four matchup against UCLA. He was voted a consensus Second Team All-American.
Suggs is part of the top tier of 2021 prospects, currently ranking third on ESPN’s big board. In his scouting report, Mike Schmitz notes that Suggs is a bit of a streaky shooter and has average length relative to his height, but says that he’s already a mature decision-maker and a tough defender.
While they’re awaiting draft decisions from some of their other key players, Gonzaga may not miss a beat as Suggs departs, having secured a commitment from No. 1 high school recruit Chet Holmgren.

You forgot one metric… He’s a winner.
That is not a metric, and they lost in the championship game so idk what you’re really talking about hahaha
Understanding implies the ability to think.
Good for the Zags to get the number one recruit. Times have changed.
The Zags have been a 30 plus win team for like 20 years. A perennial top 10 team for the last decade. Don’t underestimate that program. Without Suggs, they’re going to be just fine.
That’s the best coach, best run program in the country. Of course they’re getting top recruits.
He reminds me of Damian swagger and shot making ability with the IQ and feel for the game like a CP3 or Rondo. He has leadership qualities and he should be a top 3 pick this year. Loved watching him play in the tourney.
Suggs is a star. He’ll be a steal at 4 or 5. Even in that awful championship game, he finished like a madman, did everything HE could do to carry that outgunned team. I love him. He’s a future all star.
Suggs is not even top 40 in ast per gm. Top guy is Jalen Moore at 8.4 ast. He’s not in top 100 in scoring. His stats don’t jump out. And he played for one of best teams. Seems hype today is more important that substance. To me Mitchell and Butler from Baylor both outplayed Suggs in Final gm. But Suggs at 19 has upside. He’s a big true PG. I see potentially a Jason Kidd type who can score. Very good 2way player. He definitely will be a solid pro maybe even a star. Has to go top 5. His body is already mature. So he can play next yr.
You want stats – play for bad team.
His game reminds me a lot of George Hill. I think his NBA floor is George Hill. Ceiling, I’d say about Chauncey Billups or Jrue Holiday.
He’s going to be a really good pro. Great mental makeup and skilled. Whoever drafts him is getting a winner.
