Lakers center Andre Drummond put forth a key performance in the team’s win over the Nets on Saturday, guiding the club to a 126-101 victory, Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times writes.
Drummond finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in just over 22 minutes of action. He served as an enforcer on both ends of the floor, controlling the interior and pounding Brooklyn on the glass.
“He can do that against opposing centers,” coach Frank Vogel said of Drummond. “He can beat them up with his physicality, on the post or on drives, on the offensive glass and then he can more than hold his own and guard his position defensively as well as all the pick-and-roll defensive coverages that we put him [in] as well. He’s a two-way player and it’s a great sign to see him stepping up as a leader the way he did tonight.”
There’s more from Los Angeles today:
- The Clippers plan to start Reggie Jackson at point guard for “the long haul” with Patrick Beverley sidelined, coach Tyronn Lue said, as relayed by Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times (Twitter link). Beverley is expected to miss at least three-to-four weeks after suffering a fracture of the fourth metacarpal bone in his left hand.
- Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe explores Clippers veteran Rajon Rondo‘s case for the Hall of Fame. Rondo is a two-time NBA champion, four-time All-Star and has made four All-Defensive teams in his career, playing 15 seasons with eight teams.
- Mark Medina of USA TODAY examines LeBron James‘ ankle injury, with the help of opinions from various medical experts. James sustained a high ankle sprain on March 20 and has missed 11 straight games for the Lakers, though a recent report from ESPN indicated that he’s likely to return in three weeks.
Rondo is hall of very good…..
Nah, rondo is a Hall of Famer
If Yao and Grant Hill can get in
Anybody can get in
There are tons of players in the HOF far worse than Yao. Sure he only played for 7 years due to injuries, but he would’ve been one of the greatest centers in NBA history if his feet/ankles had held up.
Woulda, shoulda, coulda. Stop being such a homer. Yao is in the Hall more for his contributions off the court then on the court
Stop It! if he could have he would have! But he didn’t!
Grant Hill was unstoppable before his leg injuries and was still damn good afterwards he had a few years where he was MVp type.
Soon Hill will be in charge of USA basketball. Although if that’s because he made the HOF, then a circular argument. Always a catch.
It’s the Basketball HOF not the NBA . Hill has college and international ball. Yao also is a huge international player. Who did a lot for sport worldwide.
Absolutely insane to think Rondo is a HOF. Nice high IQ guard but nowhere close to the hall. He has played on 8 teams in 7 seasons for a reason.
if he wins one with Clippers, id say why not, winning two rings with the most known franchises and a first time ring for clippers would be enough imo
Rondo is usually the 4/5th best player on a championship team. Not a hall of famer
Rondo playin with that dislocated elbow is HOF in my book. Legendary s**t.
Rondo comps to Mark Jackson but with rings.
Rondo is going to rank high enough on the all – time assist list that he has to be considered for the hall. Pierce was the best player on that championship C’s team but the next 3-4 years Rondo was the heart, soul, and best player. He put up some ridiculous triple doubles, had huge & iconic playoff moments and had a better shooting percentage than many would think.
Rondo was better than fat Paul for those teams arguably best point guard in league then, but he is far from that level now.
I’d argue 1. Darren Williams 2. Chris Paul 3. Rajon Rondo. That being said I do believe he deserves consideration for HOF
Garnett was the best player on those teams
It’s fitting that you say Rondo was the best player on those teams with the name “just kidding”
Big news today was reporting saying Ad will be back in 10-14 days and LeBron in 3 weeks. I think all these people who think Utah, the Nets, Denver, or really any other team is a match for a healthy Lakers is smoking something stronger than ganja. The Lakers dominated last year in the post-season and their lineup is much better this year. Tht is a force now and adding the best rebounder in the league for nearly free is going to make heavy favorites much more favored. The Sixers are a threat, if the Nets meet the Lakers in finals 5 games tops.
If Rondo has another ”Playoff Rondo” run with Clippers. He might get in after a few tries. He was the leader of the Celtics team. His PG play made that offense run. Then he was a ball stopper on D. If he helps Clippers win. It could happen, is all I’m saying.
To me the case for Rondo is the same case as Iguodala. Both very good players and played well in their roles on championship teams, but not HoF worthy
Iguadala has three rings 5 finals appearances in a row. Made the finals with the heat too. And is an nba finals mvp against Lebron James. He’s in the hof
Both have typically been the 3rd or 4th best player on their teams. In this day of super teams, much more should count than collecting rings.
As several people have pointed out Rondo has been on a crazy amount of teams the last few years. He all but destroyed the Mavs when he joined. He’s been a headache for a couple of coaches. I don’t see him as a HOF player is he good – yes. Is he great – no.
“Drummond finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in just over 22 minutes of action. “
a point a min, a reb every 2 mins ……… Geeeezzz
You See, just what is it that some don’t get about these numbers. He don’t have ups and is not a shot blocker. Don’t mean he can’t be taught to be a team D guy. You can still hold down the middle with size. For all the “90s are over” fanatics here. You can’t teach SIZE. A guy who can put up those numbers. You find a place for him. It’s laughable 90% of this board KILLS Drummond. Then that same 90% gets pissed when Lakers sign him. I guess this is why ……. he used Adridge like Sillyman uses the Team Cap Money
Skilled big man are always a dominant force in the NBA, the game is more guard dominated than before but look at the years Embiid and Jokic are having. Lakers won last year with size and the 23rd best 3rd percentage
I forgave Rondo for being a Celtic when he won a championship with the Lakers. HOF? I think he should be president!
Mark Price isn’t in the hall yet and his numbers were equal or better than Rondos.
Price’s numbers are definitely better, especially his advanced stats, plus he had a better college career. However, Rondo anchored some better teams and won two championships.
That is a travesty he has the bad luck of playing in the greatest era of point guards ever the 80s and early 90s. Magic, Stockton, Isiah, and Kevin Johnson. I dont think Kevin Johnson is in hall either.
Rondo… a Hall-of-Famer? I guess if Drummond gets a championship with the Lakers, he’s a Hall-of-Famer, too, huh?
Not sure I would agree with that…you’re entitled to your opinion
I’m sayin neither are Hall-of-Famers
If Drummond wins a couple more rebounding championships he should be in the hall, especially if he has rings. If he wins 6 rebounding titles and a ring you wouldn’t put him in the Hall? Then kick Rodman out as well.
I don’t think rebounding should get someone in. That’s more like something a player contributes if he is willing & able. Instead of say, willing, able & talented.
A 6’11 guy winning rebounding titles is not impressive, I’m sorry. Especially in this jumpshot era. Rodman might average 20 rpg today.
I like Rajon, he won a ring for the greatest franchise in NbA history the Lakers, but he isnt a hall of famer. No consistency in his career. Kevin Johnson and Mark price are both better players and were consistent all stars for years.
I’d argue 1. Darren Williams 2. Chris Paul 3. Rajon Rondo. That being said I do believe he deserves consideration for HOF
