The NBA has suspended Celtics guard Marcus Smart for one game for “directing threatening language toward a game official,” tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Smart’s actions took place during and after Tuesday’s loss to the Thunder, Charania adds (via Twitter), with Mark Murphy of The Boston Herald noting that Smart was whistled for a technical foul with 7:48 left to play (Twitter link). Smart will serve the suspension in tonight’s game against the Hornets.
Missing a game without pay will cost Smart $89K, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN (Twitter link).
That was not a very smart thing for him to do.
Came here to say the same thing lol
How can you lose to OKC. When you are fighting for seeding. Been waiting all year for Heat and Celtics to Really show up. Still waiting, both have had bad losses. Been up and down all yr. Only Heat are much better when Jimmy plays. Imo Knicks can take either in a series. Especially with home court. Thing is as 7th and 8th seed. They will play Sixers and Nets in first rd. So I would think both don’t want that. But they keep losing lols.
3 starters out last night and Smart more concerned with the officials
The C’s have no urgency or fight in them. I think Brad has gotta go or the team needs better leaders. I like Tatum and Brown, but they need guys who want to win take and take winning seriously.
It just shows how bad of a problem this team has with no leadership a bunch young kids who don’t care if they win all they want is to get paid and get their rings at the end of their careers like most vets do on the buyout market
Ok but where does that $89,000 go? Who gets it? The team owner? A charity (that the league has alluded to but literally never has actually disclosed what one)???
I think this was clarified when Kyrie Irving made comments about the money when being suspended earlier in the season. All of the suspension receipts go to charity. The decision about what charities is shared. Half of the total is decided by the NBA and the other half by the NBPA.
“The short answer is spelled out in the CBA: Player fines go to charity. The slightly longer answer: Half of the money goes to the NBA for distribution to its official charitable partners and the other half goes to the NBPA. Technically, the NBPA’s half is managed by the NBPA Foundation, a separate 501 (c)(3) non-profit run by executive director Sherrie Deans.”

Ok you didn’t answer the question though: what are the names of these charities? The NBA has never been clear on THAT part.
Y do u care? They just decide. U need to no if they use web mason or staples 2?
The Athletic’s story on this from last week mentions Athlete Ally, The Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Operation Warm, Helping Hand, The St. Bernard Project, and Building Blocks. link to theathletic.com
Maybe the refs should actually be accountable for their terrible officiating. Then again they think they are basketball cops, get away with whatever they want with no penalties….
Agreed…
I’ve never heard that guy – the official they bring in (on tv) when there was a questionable call – say, “Yeah, the refs blew that one.”
He always sides with the refs. Even when he knows they were wrong he’ll gloss over it with some bs. But never says they made a bad call.
Always thought all Fine Money goes to NBA office. From there at end of year. The NBA office separates among charities. They don’t keep it.
Hes a fool 2 do that
If I lost 89k … I’d differ my bear his ass! lol … I’m getting my 89k worth out of that Ass!!!
