J.J. Redick participated in his first full practice Saturday since joining the Mavericks and could be ready to play Monday against the Sixers, writes Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News. The veteran guard said he experienced no new problems with the sore right heel and Achilles that have kept him out of action since March 3. While he felt pain during practice, Redick said the heel and Achilles are “sore all the time. I’m just managing right now. It was the first time going live and I thought it went really well.”
Dallas acquired Redick from the Pelicans at the trade deadline to provide another outside shooter heading into the postseason. He’s coming off a non-surgical procedure last month to help ease the soreness.
“He really is a very intense, machine-like worker,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “A guy like that is great for the culture of your team. It was great having him out there (Saturday), in as much of a full practice situation as you can get in this kind of a season.”
There’s more from Dallas:
- Willie Cauley-Stein, who has been in the NBA’s health and safety protocols since March 18, may be cleared to return today, Townsend adds in a separate story. Cauley-Stein was listed as probable on the team’s injury report. He has missed 12 games, the most of the six Mavericks players who have been in the protocols this season.
- In another piece, Townsend examines the relationship between Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis amid rumors of behind-the-scenes friction involving the franchise cornerstones. “We’re trying to play together and help each other,” Porzingis said when asked about the topic this week. “We want to win. At the end, we all want to win here. We have to keep playing, keep playing together, and keep playing well and help each other.”
- Dallas considered Jalen Brunson “basically untouchable” in talks before the trade deadline, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on his latest podcast (hat tip to Tyler Watts of FanSided). Windhorst added that the Mavericks view the third-year point guard as “a foundational core piece going forward.”
Can Mavs defeat Suns in playoffs?
IMO
Suns are more likely to play Blazers or Lakers in the first round
Playoffs success is tough for Mavs and Nuggets too
The Suns are going to have a much, much harder time finding success during this year’s playoffs than the Nuggets will. They won’t make the WCF.
Mavs should make Brunson avail last month
Mavs want to sign John Collins offseason
Hawks don’t do things like this
Give Gallo bad contract and let Collins walk for nothing
Fans in NY turned on KP. Cause he thought he was bigger than the team. He didn’t like how Melo was being treated so he stood up for himself. Problem was Knicks made him. It was the fans and following, support that pushed him to top. He hadn’t done anything in the game yet. He showed potential and upside. He was a white guy with talent and star potential. Something Knicks haven’t seen since the 70s. He hasn’t won anything, his teams weren’t even .500 yet. Then he’s playing us like he’s the star player we can’t be without. Well no one, No One is bigger than the Knicks. No one in the NBA should be bigger than your team (Harden saga). So we had no choice but to trade him. In truth he’s never done anything but have one good yr. And the team was still bad then with him. All he’s flashed is star potential. But we all knew he was thin and injury prone. And there was always a chance he was not a great fit. So now he’s in Dallas and he thinks he’s on the same level as Luka. That should tell you all you need to know. KP still has done nothing but sometimes put up good stats. Mavs are where they are not because of him. And still are not a contender. Only thing he’s been consistent at is being injured, and thinking he’s a star. If you don’t build your team right around him, to help him. He’s not going to help you win. He might get his stats, but who cares if he can’t help you win. He’s still to this day, has done nothing to call him a star. And to put him at same level as Luka. Is a Big time Disrespect to Luka .
You literally post these long rambling paragraphs and say the same ridiculous things about KP on every article that mentions him. You always say You made KP a star which is hilarious. We get it you have a crush on him but you don’t need to keep saying the same buffoonery over and over.
Never used the word I. No I in team. Truth will always come out as long as I’m alive. He and Luka don’t belong in same sentence. I am always reminded how sweet it was to get rid of him. Go ride his bobble head now.
Must admit dude KP6 has been light years better in DAL than he ever was in NYK, facts!!!
“No I in team” dude you aren’t part of the team. You had nothing to do with KP get over yourself. Just because you say the same ridiculous thing over and over doesn’t make it true. I remember the time you said they “fleeced” the Mavericks. Is that true too? Matthews-buyout Jordan-played a couple months on a lousy team (how did him help bring Kyrie and KD to the Knicks work out?) Smith Jr-was a complete disaster and traded to pistons for nothing. Then 2 picks that will be in the 20’s. That is what you consider a “fleece”? Haha While you are clueless about Basketball, you may have a future in stand up comedy.
Al, side note — do you audibly dictate these posts on your phone or physically type them out?
KP in NY was thought to be *the* guy. Then in Dallas it was co-guy with Luka. Then when Luka took a leap it was second banana. Now it’s looking like second banana might be too much to ask.
If there’s friction I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dallas ship him out this offseason. Luka is serious about winning and if he/they don’t think they can contend with KP I think they’ll make a move sooner than later.
I got plenty of info in my brain. It’s no problem for me. Don’t even have to research it. I’m sure 70% of posters here couldn’t care and don’t know the truth about KP and the Knicks. It’s my civic duty as a Knicks fan to uphold our integrity. It’s laughable to include him with Luka. I can’t stand Mello, and I wouldn’t include KP with him either. Only knowledge can appreciate the truth. I’m all about the truth and BALL.
” A guy like that is really great for the culture of our team…even though he doesn’t want to be here.”
Carlisle is lubing him up real nice, trying to get that sweet guest spot on JJ’s podcast this month
I guarantee he’d rather be in Dallas than NOLA
