APRIL 13: Monday’s Timberwolves/Nets game has been rescheduled for Tuesday afternoon, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link). It will be played at 3:00pm central time without any fans in attendance, sources tell Malika Andrews of ESPN (Twitter link).
APRIL 12: The NBA is postponing the Timberwolves/Nets game that had been scheduled to take place in Minnesota on Monday night, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter links). The NBA has formally confirmed the postponement.
Wojnarowski and Malika Andrews of ESPN first reported (via Twitter) that there were ongoing conversations about a postponement of Monday’s game due to unrest in Minneapolis in the wake of a police shooting. A 20-year-old Black man, Daunte Wright, was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Sunday.
The MLB contest between the Red Sox and Twins that was scheduled to be played on Monday afternoon in Minnesota was also postponed.
While it won’t take place tonight, there’s still a chance that the Wolves/Nets game could be played on Tuesday, sources tell Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
With just over a month left in the regular season, there won’t be a ton of opportunities to make up postponed games, and every win or loss is important for a Brooklyn team currently tied for first in the Eastern Conference. Minnesota’s final record will also be important for draft lottery reasons — the team is a half-game “ahead” of Houston for the top spot in the lottery standings.
Kyrie Irving and Karl-Anthony Towns had been ruled out for Monday due to personal reasons — it’s unclear if either one would be available by Tuesday.
Looking at the rest of the schedule there’s no way they can postpone the game past tomorrow. Of course a cancellation will hurt the Wolves chances of remaining at the top of the draft lottery since they most likely would have lost to the Nets.
Yes because that’s the most important thing going on in Minnesota right now.
T he Minnesota police officer who fatally shot a black man during a Sunday traffic stop has reportedly been identified as 25-year veteran Kimberly Potter
im Potter, the police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop in Brooklyn City, Minnesota, has resigned from her position
I hope this “unrest” can at least continue under the loose definition of a mostly peaceful protest.
Like the one at the whitehouse?
I’m not gonna make this a whole political thing I just want to simply say R.I.P
I guess this helps Kyrie. Cause he was on personal leave anyway. Unfortunately this might make him take more games off. The playoffs will have more fans in attendance. We are headed in that direction. So getting Hm court for Sixers or Bucks. Can really help them. Nets will be reminded of this n all gms missed by their players then.
Man I always hated when politics mingles with sports, right?
I mean if anyone is interested in politics, which I couldn’t be less bothered than I am, but I assume someone must be, then fine sure there is the right time for it…
But sports mustn’t ever be a part of it, I just hate havin’ games cancelled for political reasons, is a bummer for fans that wanna watch & enjoy a fine spectacle!!!
Usually dictatorships is where you really find the mingling of sports & politics… but these days the lines are gettin’ very blurred all over the world it would seem to me anyway!
Imagine how it feels getting killed for “political reasons”.
Political reasons? You really don’t think the game may have been cancelled as a show of respect for Wright? I think the world can live without having to watch one of the worst teams in the NBA playing one of the best for a day
Phew no police violence on Tuesdays carry on
He was seconds away from simply being put in handcuffs and then walked to the cruiser.
Instead he chose to escalate the situation and try to flee the scene, drive the car away.
Officer had in her mind non-lethal action, thinking taser, but obviously in the heat of the moment didn’t tase the guy and shot him.
Yea it’s unfortunate but root cause wasn’t b/c he was black.
And seriously if you flee the police or resist arrest, what do you actually expect will happen? When does that ever end in a good outcome? Same thing as ‘let me see your hands’ and you reach into your jacket pockets.
Yes, let’s examine this from the standpoint of everything the victim did wrong. That’s like saying if a sexy woman gets raped it’s her own fault because of what she was wearing.
As for what he expected it’s pretty much the same whether he resists or not, as a black person in America he’s going to feel his life is in danger when police are involved.
What you think is the cause is in the branches and not the roots.
How are you comparing a rape victim to someone committing a crime? Just do me a favor and think a little more critically before you comment if you’re going to come at me. I’m not even reading past that because your premise is that flawed. One does not beget the other in your example.
I can understand both of your perspectives. So I’m going to say it. To make an error that causes the loss of someone’s life is a grave mistake and she needs to be held accountable.
But also, PSA for everyone. I don’t care your race or anything else. Do yourself and your family a favor. If you’re ever confronted by the police, just comply. Live to tell your story in a court of law another day. Don’t make them think their life may be in jeopardy. Just comply. No one wants to read about another police killing. No one wants to go through the was it or was it not justified crap. Please. Just. Comply. And then lawyer up if you feel the need afterwards.
“just comply”
It would not be bc cops are so great or “the man”. They are just the best that the man could talk into taking the job. Hopefully under the cop-hat they’re having a good hair day and not making things worse for everyone.
The shooter’s chest-cam reveals her to be a flincher to me, and the cop at the door to have conflicted feelings. The victim of course was a runner in a lethal object, the car. I did not see any examples of virtue but the union and probably the judge will be standing up for three of them.
Not that I support slogans like “defund the police” and “love us” and variations of “It’s a black thing you wouldn’t understand”… but I digress.
Lore and Arod may wanna reconsider.
