The Jazz can breathe a little easier. An MRI revealed no structural damage to Donovan Mitchell‘s right ankle, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets. However, the All-Star guard will miss multiple games as he recovers from a sprain suffered on Friday afternoon against Indiana.
Mitchell had to be helped off the court after turning his ankle, but X-rays shortly after he was taken to the locker room were negative. The Jazz, with the league’s top record, will obviously take a cautious approach with Mitchell to get him ready for the postseason. He’s averaged 29.5 PPG since the All-Star break.
Overall, he’s posting a career-best 26.4 PPG and 5.2 APG, scoring 40-plus points in three of past six games.
In the short run, the Jazz figure to lean more heavily on veteran guards Mike Conley and Jordan Clarkson, while giving more playing time to Miye Oni and Matt Thomas.
Hopefully its two weeks at most and he is ready to go by playoffs time. Suns have a chance now to get that 1 seed
Told you Wade was making a return. Look who needs help at guard all of a sudden…
A sprain is a tear of tissue, which technically is still structural damage. It’s just not severe damage.
It’s also a stretch of the tissue not necessarily a tear which would not show signs of structural damage. Great comment Reflect
My prediction
Michell will miss 1 month
Wiseman will miss 6 months
Just let him get healthy. No need to rush him back. Bron is out for 6 wks with ankle sprain or more. Don’t mess with Spida …. get your bench guys ready for playoffs .
LeBron’s high ankle sprain is a far more serious injury. Whereas the injury to Mitchell shouldn’t keep him out more than two to three weeks.
Right doctor robohouston.
Utah has always needed a defensive and bigger guard, no secret. Too bad if their run is stopped for that lack. Waived Shaq Harrison, who is apparently not 6-7 as listed. No wonder he can get down on D.
Harrison was okay. He just wasn’t as good of a 3-point shooter as they’ve been adding this year.
Notice that the two they did add were both excellent 3-point shooters. Although, one is a backup big in Ersan. He had himself a very nice all-around game against the Lakers.
Matt Thomas is the guard they added. He’s actually very active on both ends. He’s a bit too impatient so he tends to force shots. Coach Q and staff should be able to help him with that. Otherwise, he may need medication. =)
Glad Donovan’s injury isn’t too bad. I had an ankle sprain that I couldn’t walk on for 3 days. After that it was fine. However, doing hard cuts is what takes a little longer. I’m sure they’ll do something similar to what they did for Clarkson.
