Terence Davis hopes last week’s trade to the Kings will give him a fresh start and help him leave off-the-court issues behind, writes James Ham of NBC Sports. After scoring 27 points Saturday in a narrow loss to the Bucks, Davis addressed the legal matters that arose in October when he was still with the Raptors.
Davis was originally charged with seven counts of domestic violence, but all charges relating to an alleged assault were eventually dropped by the New York District Attorney’s office. He still faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief, but those will reportedly dissolve in a year if he avoids further legal trouble.
“When you’re going through something like that, it defines you as a person, as a man, for me, as a father,” Davis said. “I’m just excited to be here, excited to be a part of the Kings. I’m happy man, I’m ready to get to work and continue to work. This is a fresh start for me, man, I just want to take advantage of it.
“As an individual, I’m a tough dude. You know, just having to deal with so much. I haven’t really seen my son in a while. I’m getting kinda teary right now, man, just talking about this situation. I’ve been through a lot. I’m just happy to be here and happy that the Kings welcomed me with open arms.”
There’s more from the Pacific Division:
- The Kings‘ new additions were noticeable for the energy they brought to Saturday’s game, while the holdovers didn’t seem to provide as much toughness and competitiveness, observes James Jones of The Athletic. The Kings have lost some of their veteran leaders in recent years and they’re hoping to get those qualities from Davis, Maurice Harkless and Delon Wright, who were all acquired at the deadline. “I’m excited about these guys our front office brought in,” coach Luke Walton said. “I think that will, with some more time, will continue to get us there faster. But when they come in, there’s an intensity level they’re playing with. And that’s how it has to be at the start of games, middle of games.”
- Klay Thompson delivered a message to his Warriors teammates after a 53-point loss Friday night, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN. The injured guard talked about the need to uphold the tradition that the franchise has built. “He was just kind of going off about how he missed the game and how it’s just not acceptable to lose this way,” Kent Bazemore said. “He’s fired up, man. It’s hard watching, regardless if you’re playing or not playing.”
- The Suns acquired Torrey Craig at the deadline, but they were hoping to add him last offseason, coach Monty Williams tells Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic. Craig said he wanted to sign with Phoenix at the time, but “pretty crazy and pretty wild and unpredictable” things happened and he chose the Bucks instead.
How much tradition did the Warriors build in 7 years of making the playoffs after having 16 losing seasons in the previous 18 years?
The tradition of making every Rockets, Blazers and Clippers fan cry every playoffs was pretty good.
Their short “dynasty” was fun while it lasted though, huh?
We are talking about a team that made the playoffs exactly 6 times between 1978 and 2012 (35 years). That’s not what would be called having a winning tradition by any stretch of the wild imagination.
Read. It’s Klay Thompson saying that, he most definitely is trying to build a winning tradition.
Also what about before 1978 though? Cherry picking much? You’re talking about the franchise who had both Wilt and Steph. Other than like 2 years, the Rockets have always been irrelevant.
You are also talking like GSW will be like this next year and the upcoming years, when they will most likely win more titles. Shut up.
Houston should be mad at the Warriors because their championship window happened the same time as the warriors did but of course history shows Warriors were the ones to win those 5 years. I don’t blame the rocket fans for hating on the warriors because if it was reversed warrior fans would be hating on Rockets.
Boy oh boy are you in for a treat the next 5 years my friend. That 5th pick will look real good in an OKC jersey lolol
Replacing Thompson with Bazemore is why GSW stinks this year. GSW’s front office and coaching staff (except in Santa Cruz) has been in total shambles since KD left.
However, this fact must be repeated:
The Golden State Warriors have the 7th worst offense in NBA HISTORY when Stephen Curry isn’t on the floor.
With him, they have the 13th best offense in the league.
How is that not exactly what an MVP is? Curry must be the MVP this season no matter where GSW finishes.
they replaced Thompson with Oubre not Bazemore. I can’t figure out Oubre at all. He was doing great for a while being aggressive and going at the basket but as soon as the trade rumors hit he went back to the same offensive player watching from the side 3 point line. Does he think he will get a big contract playing passive? He is looking more like a head case that tries sometimes and other times disappears on the court.
Bazemore been getting Klay’s minutes though.
The problem is Wiggins and Oubre can’t play together, Oubre was only acquired as a “grab any warm body who makes X amount of money” and Oubre was that guy. He’s not a fit because Wiggins is better than him at basically the same things.
Why Lee and Toscano aren’t getting more minutes is why I hate Steve Kerr so much this season.
JTA should be getting more playing time how bad the defense has been when he doesn’t play.
53 points ….. Warriors suck. 53 points that’s what a college gm total is. 53 POINTS. Is this a real NBA team ……… 53 , 53 , 53 , 53.
That was a terrible loss. Embarrassing. What’s funny is last night’s games, Saturday night, there were several 45-point blowouts. Like 3 of them. Weird night in basketball.
Did it bring back reminders how bad the knicks were a couple of years ago? Playing 3 players 20 or younger on the team does that also having your 3 best player injured.
That’s even worse than the 49 point loss the Rockets had just over a month ago. Looks like the Warriors are just as bad as Houston this season, huh?
At least the Rockets will be better in 2022, unlike Golden State. Blow it up.
Hoping for the best for both teams. Have a nice draft, sign a key free agent or two, and get back to winning. Fingers crossed.
