The rookie season of Warriors center James Wiseman, the second pick in the 2020 NBA draft, is officially over. Wiseman went under the knife for surgery today in Los Angeles to address a right meniscal tear, the team announced in a tweet.
The Warriors, who confirmed that Wiseman will miss the remainder of the 2020/21 season, will supply an update for Wiseman’s recovery timeline in September. The club expects him to return in ’21/22.
Reports emerged on Sunday (as we relayed) that the 20-year-old big man did indeed suffer a meniscus tear and could be in jeopardy of missing the rest of the season as Golden State made a push for a play-in tournament appearance. He will finish his first NBA season out of Memphis having appeared in 39 games, including 27 starts.
The seven-footer posted averages of 11.5 PPG and 5.8 RPG on 51.9% shooting from the floor across 21.4 MPG. Head coach Steve Kerr has opted to sub in veteran big man Kevon Looney as the Warriors’ starting center.
He needs to get to work on his body. He couldn’t even back down Trae young
And he got hurt trying to dunk on KJ Martin who’s only 6’6″.
Come back healthy next season
Kerr said before today’s game that they are not planning on adding a Big man.
Surprising since Kevon Looney is their Tallest healthy player at 6-9 and has chronic and surgically repaired bad hips. Doubtful he holds up playing more Minutes now than ever before.
They better hope he doesn’t get Injured the rest of the season because they’ll have no to guard Zion in the Play-in Tournament.
Realistically, adding someone is not going to help them. All the FA bigs still have to go through protocols, learn the plays, and get into shape before they might be able to add some value. What is the use in signing a bench warmer. Without Klay, they were never going to go anywhere this season.
You’re just a real bouquet of roses, aren’t you? Interesting way to say you don’t think Steph Curry is any good.
@marty Never said that. Having one great player doesn’t guarantee you a Championship. Chamberlain was better than Russell. But, Russell has more rings.
Warriors are doing everything they can to try and convince their fanbase they aren’t tanking. It’s actually borderline insulting to people with even a small collection of brain cells (e.g. majority of commenters here). This should come as no surprise, but it’s a little disappointing for an organization I believed to have some integrity.
Also, someone should let Steph know. Poor guy.
Tanking is when you get rid of useful players. They didn’t trade Curry, Green, Klay, etc. They are in a semi rebuild mode. They were going to have to do it sooner or later. In the next 2 drafts, they have the opportunity to add some solid players that can learn from the core 3. Wiseman has a great future, and will continue to develop. Anybody who has followed a team knows you can’t turn around a team in a single season. Rebuilds have growing pains. It takes time. It took 40 years for Golden State win another Championship. The current front office is well on there way to winning 1 this decade.
GSW are many years away from winning another championship.
Maybe not 40 years, but they’re not winning one this decade.
Full strength they’re a contender rn. Rox are 5 years away from being 5 years away from contending
Oh, I am waiting to hear you explain this one. They have 7 seasons to acquire talent to a Championship. Wiseman is a great start. Of course Wiseman has 3 teammates that have won Championships. Why is it impossible that Warriors will win a championship by 2029.
Please explain why the Warriors can’t win a championship.
Umm…Draymond is done. Klay, let’s be honest — who is confident he’ll come back the same player he was 2 years ago?
Father time doesn’t care what team you play for. That’s a fact, jack.
Anyone putting their money on the Warriors I have a wide assortment of bridges to sell to you. Not Miles Bridges either, though you’d prob like that huh.
I’m gawd. You know who the Warriors draft in the next 7 years. So you an amazing resource.
Any guy that has to hide behind multiple aliases can not be taken seriously.
I guess this is new to you. But, the NBA has an event called the Draft. Teams acquire younger talent. The Warriors are in a good position.
You are referring to rebuilding, not tanking. Rebuilding is when you trade away your top talent to acquire future draft picks, etc. Tanking is when you don’t use the best rotation possible in order to put your team in the best position to win, and that is exactly what Kerr and the Warriors are doing. They are obviously tanking.
What is the Warriors best rotation? How should the Kerr best use the talent he has?
Get well JW ….. to be honest. I don’t think Kerr used him well. This is first talented center he’s ever had. Should talk to Duncan and Robinson. Warriors will be back next yr. They’ll be contenders.
Wiseman is the most talented center they have had since Parrish.
Bring Omari Spellman back!!
