Dennis Schröder and Lonzo Ball could be potential targets for the Bulls in free agency this summer, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Appearing on ESPN’s NBA Countdown on Friday, Wojnarowski indicated Chicago will be in the market for a starting point guard (hat tip to Blake Schuster of Bleacher Report).
“Point guard is going to be at a premium for them,” Wojarnowski said.
Schröder, who is currently out due to the league’s health and safety protocols, reportedly turned down a four-year, $80MM+ contract extension offer from the Lakers. It’s likely he’ll be one of the top unrestricted free agents on the market. The Knicks are among the other teams who could potentially make a run at Schröder.
Ball’s situation is a little cloudier. New Orleans must decide whether to extend a $14.36MM qualifying offer, which would make Ball a restricted free agent. If the Pelicans do that, they’ll have the right to match any offer. Chicago’s potential interest in Ball has previously been reported, as has the Knicks’ interest.
The Bulls’ cap space this summer is dependent on their decisions regarding two players with partially guaranteed contracts (Tomas Satoransky, Thaddeus Young), restricted free agent Lauri Markkanen, and Ryan Arcidiacono ($3MM team option).

Yeah he is but earlier this year I wanted him cut he thought he was the team super star but learn his role under Donavan. So he is now needed. Used to hate when he was in the game late .What ever happened he turned it around
You know, I talked junk in another thread about the mute button, but I’m tempted here…
I don’t know. Sillivan is usually incorrect in a massive way. But he is not really mean about it. I only consider the mute button for people that are just nasty, not ill-informed.
No I know – I wouldn’t mute anyone tbh. Just saw an absurd amount if Silli posts in a row given the articles I clicked.
For Lakers fans
If owners have 30 million budget for 2 players next season
Which option is the better?
1
Keep Schroeder and Carusa
2
Keep Harrell and Tucker
Let two players walk for nothing
Harrell has a player option, so its not their call to make
There is no 30 mill budget, it will come down to how much they are willing to go into the tax via bird rights
Exactly.
I think they’re backed against a wall with DS, regardless of playoff outcomes.
Even if LeBron shows up 100% for the playoffs and they repeat, he’ll still be 37 in December and has actually shown a few signs of being a flesh and bone human being this season. If they don’t resign Schroeder to take some of ball handling onus off LBJ what audible do they have?
Agree with everything you said Surfer …Dennis def has us on the ropes….. And to Bowers point below we need to try and keep that number as close to 20 as possible for future trading purposes down the line ….
Schroeder has flaws but I dont think its fair to use asst/to ratio against him as some have done in the past…he’s not a traditional Pg but handles the ball very very well……. We def need that to aid LBJ, last night was difficult just getting into sets, Poor Casruso, hurt, and over his head, he had a helluva a game when all said and done but thats not his his bag moving forward in any regards
Pelinka will def have an interesting offseason ahead of him this year thats for sure
Or there’s a third option where Harrell opts out and they lose Schroder in free agency giving them plenty of money to offer Caruso and THT to stay.
THT needs to learn how to pass. I hope Harrell comes back, and I’m sure Caruso will come back cheap. Paying Schroder is only going to hurt the organization long-term, unless there’s a sign and trade out there.
We don’t want Schroeder. Rather have Dinwiddie. They’re all going to use NY to bolster a FA money. Schroeder not worth more than VanVleet . Lakers don’t do well in playoffs. They will not resign him. He’s not a big ast guy. And his TOV to ast ratio not gd.
Ball has regressed imo . NO doesn’t even like him for Ingram n Zion. They will sign n trade him. Ball seems like he likes getting a players salary. Not liv g up to playing n commitment to winning. Knicks don’t want him either. Dinwiddie is the best fit in every way for us. Knicks better not mess this up.
Definitely want Dinwiddie too but does he want to come. Should be interesting what FA want to come to NY now.
Also—what’s the price on Dinwiddie? He may be a better fit, but I’m not sure he’s a better player than Schroeder or Ball overall (he’s also older than both).
Al, you talk him up a lot but what exactly do you like? He’s also not a big assist guy, doesn’t shoot the 3 all that well…in fact his overall shooting numbers aren’t that great—and he’s coming off an ACL tear.
Am I missing something here?
I’m not high on Schroeder or Ball either. I don’t know if there’s a PG out this summer that I would break my back to get if I’m NYK. If anything I’d throw a 2+1 with a team option at DeRozan and see if I could get him to bite.
He’s gotten better every year. His last yr starting he ran team. Put up 21 n 7 And had Nets playing well. Well enough for KD n Ky to come. He knows NYC so is not a rookie to it. He knows Knicks and only 27. That’s a solid young vet who is ready for prime time. He’s a big PG who plays both ways, TOV low. He’s a 80% FT career shooter. So his shooting will improve with Knicks, better looks. He’s tough and has something to prove. That’s why I Like him. He’s just a good fit for us. I see easily a 18 n 8 guy . Who doesn’t make mistakes and plays D. A Thibs kind of player. I see better production than any other FA, PG. More important a better fit for team n city.
RJ – Dinwiddie starting. Rose, Burkes, Quickly backing up. I see this as a strong, solid backcourt.
Lmfaowut. Uhh, dinwiddie blew a freaking ACL. Have you been living under a rock? No one wants him, he’s damaged goods
Dude you should really try reading and research. It’s not a blown ACL. It’s not the serious one. Try and keep up. You only OUT yourself here. Why do you think there are stories of him playing in playoffs. Which I hope are not true. He’ll be fine for next yr. Update your phone to a google search lol.
Dins is fundamentally a team guy, a ringleader who will pull others forward. Teammates actually wanted him to shoot more, which led to some low-percentage bail-out shooting. His efficiency should rise but the knee is worrisome… he takes very long quick steps.
Al, you make a convincing case—but I’ll second x%’s concern regarding the injury here.
I would just be hesitant to give anyone not named Kevin Durant a long term deal coming off an ACL tear. The risk that you end up with a dead weight contract is too large, especially where the Knicks are right now, on the precipice of actually building a really good team, but not exactly deep with star talent.
If you throw starter money at Dinwiddie for 3-5 seasons, and it turns out you’re paying for a guy who can’t get to the rim anymore, that’s a tough blow.
But maybe we can get him on a 1+1 to prove himself, we’ll see this offseason I guess.
Lmao literally nothing the parent comment said was even remotely sensical
You speak as if a torn ACL is a 100% career ending injury, which is just empirically false, as multiple players have proven in recent seasons. So Al’s comment wasn’t nonsensical, just overly optimist, IMO.
What’s nonsensical is replying “lolwut” and “ur special needs” and “lmao this is dum” on every single comment in this thread.
lowbut is an uninformed ranter. And too lazy to google.
Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie is out for the remainder of the 2020-21 NBA season with a partially torn ACL in his right knee. The Nets confirmed the injury, noting surgery will take place next week. Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic first reported the diagnosis.

KD had a blown one. Much worse. And how’s he doing ….. research that
Yes Dins is not “damaged goods” until he shows that way and I doubt he will. Mostly his offers will be lower. I would not be surprised if the Nets hold him out on purpose, even if he were ready, to reduce the amount they will have to pay to keep him. If he looks healthy, he might get a $2/40.
Bulls still haven’t improved. Lavine should definitely bolt…
Lmaowut
I just can’t see a top FA signing with NY this summer. let’s be real, who really wants to play for thibs?? They should try and resign everybody back and make sure Mitch is 100% next season.
Well, I think it depends how we’re defining top free agent. Unless Kawhi unexpectedly opts out I don’t think there will be any franchise guys available for NY to pursue even they wanted to come to NY this summer.
So NY might want to keep their powder dry this summer for that reason.
I get the concern about Thibs but I think *if* a top 10 guy was interested in being the piece to take NY from feel-good-playoff-team to actual contender they could negotiate whatever load mgmt crap they wanted in advance, just like Kawhi and PG did with LAC.
Bulls would make sense going for either player. Sorry for the defence they desperately need next to LaVine. Personally I would prefer Lonzo Ball cause he’s younger, likes to play quick up tempo/fast break style ball which would work well with someone as athletic and offensively talented as LaVine. Plus he’s also a good passer of the ball, yes Schroder and him have similar assists numbers but Schroder with Bron and AD. But by pass the ball well I don’t necessarily mean create for others, I mean he can give you full court perfect dimes or fast and direct flicks to the corner or down low. That’s style would suit the Bulls with Vuce down low and corner shooters.
I think the Bulls should let Markeneen walk in FA, and instead spend that money bringing in Ball to play the 1. With Patrick Williams capable of playing either forward spot, you can hit the draft or FA and have some flexibility on who you pursue. Ofcourse they traded there pick this year to get Vuce with a top 4 protection so if they were to land in the top 4 which would be a blessing they should take Kuminga. But the more likely situation is FA and trying to find value at either the 3 or 4 spot
Bulls should bring back Sato and Young, for trade flexibility if nothing else.
Pels should match on Ball (and Hart), and do whatever it takes to keep them and trade out of Bledsoe.
Guessing Chicago doesn’t want Bledsoe.
Agree. Young and Sato are worth bringing back. Just one year left on their contracts. Solid veterans. And as you point out, can try to trade at some point if it makes sense.
Bulls have needed a PG for a long time now. They need a new coach. Billy is a college coach another Calipari. Good success in college. But not in pros. A pro coach has to outwork other guys. And coach the whole gm. College you get bailed out by talent. Pros is about the system and chemistry. Nobody since Billy has been in NBA. Has had more talent on their teams. Yet he just can’t put it together. Never seen the good in him. Just do t get why he is still coaching.
Uh he has overperformed with bad rosters in the NBA
The 38% of us here who voted for the Lakers to end up with the #7 seed instead of Dallas or Portland are looking pretty smart right now. Poor Lakers are reeling.
Lakers avoiding Clippers lol. Probably think Suns not ready cause of youth. Mistake cause CP3 wants this 1st rd bad. Suns will follow his lead. Lakers are not going back to Finals.
Why poor Lakers? Nobody feels bad nor should they…
Lakers have their quest set for them just like every other playoff bound team
Enjoy the game man, ITS REALLY GOOD right now league wide, and these playoffs are going to be fascinating no matter who wins or losses ….you got too much hate in your heart brotha ; Breath/Release it and Enjoy the Show
Did you see Westy tonight!!! That was NBAmazing !!
…sarcasm/irony? The NBA is literally the worst it has ever been, and the ratings speak volumes. Less & less people are tuning into watch with each passing week, and the game
is borderline unwatchable with all the foul baiting & free throw contests.
I think more and more people are streaming the games nowadays …….
“The games unwatchable!” But I spend my free time commenting about the “unwatchable” games…
Time is precious, if you don’t enjoy the game you should probably be doing something differently with it than hanging out in here :)
Only thing that boy knows how to do is report comments when he gets roasted. Too many fragile folks…
….What is this comment?
Looked accurate to me before modding
Can’t believe Schroder turned down a four year $84 million all guaranteed contract with LA. If I am the Bulls, I would not offer that much to Schroder. I doubt the Pels are just going to let Ball get away.
Bulls have many options but Ball is the best fit unless you roll the dice on a big Lowry offer.
