Chris Webber will be part of the Class of 2021 for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame when the formal announcement is made today, sources told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.
Webber played 15 NBA seasons and was named to five All-Star teams and five All-NBA teams. He won Rookie of the Year honors in 1994 and holds career averages of 20.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
Many consider this a long overdue honor for Webber, who retired in 2008 and has been eligible for the Hall since 2013.
The Warriors made Webber the first pick in the 1993 draft after two outstanding seasons at Michigan as part of the Fab Five. He moved on to Washington and then Sacramento, where he had his best NBA seasons. He later played for Philadelphia and Detroit before finishing his career with Golden State.
Since retiring, Webber has been a broadcaster with TNT, although he recently parted ways with the network. He has also been involved in the music and film industries.
Webber will join Paul Pierce and Ben Wallace, who were reported Saturday as 2021 enshrinees.
Uncrowned champion of 2002.
I’m still trying to figure out Ben Wallace being inducted.
Now announce Tim Hardaway please.
There are going to be a lot more borderline guys inducted than we think from this era.
Finally. This is long overdue.
Stop thonk Webb, Sheed, Stack and Ive could of beat MJ’s Bulls
the magic made him the first pick in the draft.
Congratulations Chris, you earned it. He was the man on that Michigan team too. Don’t forget that.
The man that couldnt count timeouts lol
i forgot that he was on that team with jimmy king, ray jackson, dugan fife, and rob pelinka.
I bet it’s connected, the enshrinement and the firing. TNT knew, and acted when Webber could save face. That would explain why fire now.
He seemed to like blowing popsicle stands.
I predict he will star in a movie where he could calmly walk away when something blows up behind him, smirking against a fiery backdrop, movie-star-like. He will try Hollywood, anyway.
A shame they didn’t use Webber more in the studio. He was genuinely hilarious sometimes and took himself less seriously than Shaq.
Yeah, I like Webb. I think he’ll be ok. NBAtv or Kings network, both. Guy I can’t stand is Jalen Rose. He’s obsessed with money a material things and hype. Doesn’t have real basketball knowledge. Was overrated player too. Hated him on Knicks.
I see what you are saying about Rose. He does comeoff very “worldly”. But he is a pretty good analyst. And his obsession for things and money stem from being a poor kid from Detroit. It is just part of his personality.
Webber does have good humor, but as someone that watches too many games to remember jersey numbers… I need announcers that mind the game, which generally means avoiding national broadcasts.
As a Lakers fan I’m glad to see C-Webb get in. Those Kings teams made some fantastic battles back in the day and I always had respect for his game
Webber is a perfect example of the previous generation having to do much less than the current one to get respect. Webber would have been a 6th man at best in today’s game. So slow and not nearly as skilled as today’s player. Respect to his great career, when he played in an era that looks like slo-mo compared to todays game, but come on.
He’s a hall of very good most definitely, but the NBA loves its massive HOF where apparently the only rule they have is to put in anyone who played more than 10 years who made all-star teams, so he gets in. Exact same goes for Ben Wallace.
It’s hard to take you seriously after a comment like that.
As long as you’re a superstar player in the NBA you get in the HOF
Well deserved & very very very much overdue!
Guy was a superstar in a time were he had to battle with some of the best 4’s in history, he played against Garnett, Duncan, Barkley, Malone, Nowitzki, Gasol & so on… & still got to be a 1st All-NBA as the best PF of the league for a year, guy was flipping unbelievable & one of all-time fabs of mine!
No doubt he was sooo much better than Pierce or Wallace, although they too deserve to be in there!
