Warriors forward Kelly Oubre has been diagnosed with a torn ligament in his left wrist and a fracture on the palm of his left hand, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Further evaluations will be conducted to see if Oubre can continue playing, sources tell Charania. He reaggravated the wrist injury in an April 9 game, then returned to the court 11 days later, Charania adds.
Oubre hurt the wrist twice this season while falling to the floor after dunks, explains Anthony Slater of The Athletic (via Twitter). One happened in practice and the other was in a game against the Wizards on April 9.
Oubre is averaging 15.4 points and 6.0 rebounds through 55 games in his first season with Golden State after being acquired in a November trade. He is headed toward unrestricted free agency after making $14.375MM this season.
Really great how they let the injured player exemption just expire so they could play shorthanded with g-leaguers around Steph having an all-time great year. Excellent front office management. Great times!
I understand what you’re saying but I think they were a little bit handicapped with the salary cap. They’re doing the best they can. Javale McGee or Hassan Whiteside or Anderson Varejao are not going to move the needle at all. The goal this year is sneak into playoffs and see how far Steph can carry them.
Next year you’re adding two draft picks.. maybe number 5 and maybe number 14 + Klay Thompson + 2 free agents. Steph is not going anywhere next year.., he’s actually going to play again for the Warriors, can you believe it? Yep the same guy.
Yeah this year has been disappointing but I’m looking forward to some playoff action and then the draft. Good times !!
Facts. They didn’t wanna go over the cap cuz they would’ve been dealt with a nasty consistency penalty cuz they hit it too many times in a row. This way they can save that extra $ for next year cap issues
While I have hated Kerr’s demeanor all season and his Curry minute usage, this all could have been avoided had GSW paid Jerry West the $1M more he requested. He would have been running rings around everyone with his mind and unlimited resources, who knows who he could have gotten to come to SF.
But KD alluding to Kerr’s ego being an issue in the locker room and might be why they are struggling to get good players to come play with the best player ever, which until KD came, was remarkably easy, is a huge problem to me. Iggy was excited to come, and in turn they had a roster of almost all high IQ guys climbing each over other to play on GSW. This is how the “Curry is being carried” or “strength in numbers” era happened. Kerr might really be the problem. What is his attitude this year? He’s not hungry. I have literally never heard a coach say “we aren’t chasing wins this season” its still mindblowing he said that wasn’t fired immediately after saying that. He has too much rope, GSW need to shake things up and cut him loose.
If West stayed, then the Lacob sons wouldn’t have the power they currently have. It’s all part of Light Years structuring.
I feel you Marty. I’m with you on many of those points. Keep up the hope, it’ll get better.
@Gary – you feel me because you probably are actually watching these games, not just firing off “taeks” based off the headline like most of the scrubs I have muted on here do, lol
It’s odd and extremely risky, but it appears the game plan is to purposely finish in the last playoff spot so they can get their own best draft pick, then let Curry go nuclear in the postseason and hope for the best. I hate it, we should have been chasing wins since opening night of the season, but Kerr really wanted to lose games this year for reasons no one understands. Yes Klay isn’t playing, but Steph is better than Klay and he’s also proving he’s better than MJ right now (see: last nights 3rd qtr explosion – only MJ has ever gone that hard, maybe Kobe too, but both MJ and Kobe’s worst squads were far better than this dreck of a team the idiot FO put together).
I still don’t envy being a Rockets fan though, talk about the worst franchise in the NBA, could always be worse, I could support any Houston team, lol
I can’t wait until next season to watch the Rockets soar past your Warriors in the standings. Don’t expect an ounce of mercy or pity for the Fallen Warriors.
Honestly I hope the Rockets improve as well. I hope to see the rivalry of the last 5 or so years continue.
What free agents are they adding next year? The Warriors have no cap space so all they have to sign anyone is their $5.9M taxpayer-MLE and if they use that on two free agents they’ll be making less than $3M apiece. Either that or a 1-year deal for the minimum.
The best FA they can sign is Oubre because they have his bird rights.
Need to Sign a Big Man now, for injury Insurance. What if Looney or Draymond get Injured before the Play-in Tournament? Toscano-Anderson is only 6-7 and Smailagic is unplayable. Signing a Thon Maker or Justin Patton would at least give us a 7 Footer back there that could potentially detour easy Layups by our Opponents. Kind of tired of watching us getting pounded in the paint and being out-rebounded by at least 10 each night.
Today’s assuaging of Cra-Ra’s Kerr rant.
Should have happened a month ago but Bob Meyer stubbornness has hurt the warriors chances of anything this year.
@acr89 I agree with you 100% here, Bob screwed this up so badly too. Could have easily had JaVale or Bjelica or even Fournier, imagine adding any or all 3 to this current GSW team? They’d be way more terrifying.
GSW needs an entirely new front office and head coach, the ones they currently have are proving over and over again they simply rely on Steph’s greatness and nothing else, they certainly are not good at their jobs.
@marty i think the people that do not watch warrior games can see what we are talking about. So if other playoff teams can pick up players why couldn’t the warriors? warriors had more holes than the other teams. I am so tired of bob Fritz on warrior broadcast kissing up to Bob Meyers. Its like get a room so you can keep your job. They may be trying for the last spot so they can get a better draft pick but that is a big chance that Curry could have a off game and season is over.
I hate Fitz. He finds a stat he loves and repeats it 50 times a game. Azuibuke isn’t much better either. Barnett and the radio broadcasts are so much better!
@GangGreen23 – agreed, Paschall plays up in size but the lack of legit C is really concerning. Small ball only works if you use Steph in the Harden/Rockets role where every play is 100% on him. Patton and Maker aren’t great but they are better than Smiley, who is by far the dumbest player I have ever seen.
Kelly season is likely over
Would’ve been over in 18 days anyway.
You don’t know Kelly Oubre. He’ll play through it if they give him the green light. He’s a gamer.
Oubre and Oladipo are going to have a hard time getting good deals this summer.
Kelly oubre plays through injury and goes all out and attacks the rim hard. Victor Oladipo can’t stay on the floor.., he gets nicked up. Oubre hurt his hand and wrist after dunking.
Kelly is going to have to really convince a team he’s about to become an all-world defender or promise to shoot better than 31% from 3.
Oladipo seems to want to bet on himself, so maybe he’ll take a 1 year offer to try and re-establish his LT value in Miami next season.
All of these homer Golden State fans here act like Oubre is even half the player Thompson was before his two career-altering injuries. But the Warriors will continue throwing away money by re-signing Oubre this summer because Klay won’t be ready to play until at least a month or two into the season. Can’t wait to hear all of their excuses in 2022!!!
He will not play another game this year. Why fool yourself that he will come back. A pending free agent will not take a chance of a more worse injury. Another big blunder by Bob Meyer.
