After the Warriors were eliminated in the play-in game by Memphis on Friday, Draymond Green said the team has a long way to go to become a title contender again, Nick Friedell of ESPN writes. “We’re far away. Because in order to win a championship, you got to be in the playoffs,” Green said. “So, we’re clearly a ways away — a few tweaks here and there, and we’re not that far. But right now we’re a ways away because we’re not in the playoffs.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Upgrades to the rotation are imperative for the Warriors, Anthony Slater of The Athletic opines. They must decide whether to re-sign free agent Kelly Oubre, whose style of play doesn’t mesh well with his current teammates. Re-signing Kent Bazemore to a low-cost deal would be a prudent move, but Alen Smailagic and Eric Paschall have tenuous futures with the organization, though Paschall’s contract for next season is guaranteed.
- The Kings will take an aggressive approach to the off-season, GM Monte McNair told Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee. “We’ll be aggressive whether it’s really (any of) the three avenues — draft, free agency, trade,” McNair said. “We’re going to continue to be aggressive and smart in looking for big or small ways that we can upgrade the team.” However, it could be difficult for the Kings retain unrestricted free agent Richaun Holmes, Anderson notes. Holmes will likely seek upwards of $15MM annually and the Kings will be hard-pressed to pay more than $12MM due to cap issues.
- The Clippers will have approximately 7,000 fans in the stands for their playoff opener, Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times tweets. That’s the maximum they can sell, per local regulations. The remainder of the seats will be filled with cardboard cutouts.
If things work out for the Warriors what could they get for a package like this:
#6 pick in this year’s draft,
#14 pick in this year’s draft,
James Wiseman,
Eric Paschall,
Andrew Wiggins and his 30 mil salary?
Karl-anthony towns? There would have to be a third team because it would be a slap in the face to trade their own pick back and I’m sure they don’t want Andrew Wiggins. But a guy like Towns on the Warriors with Steph and Klay and Draymond and Looney plus some ring Chasers could be a contender next year? Thoughts? Any other great players available? I mean that’s a lot of assets to put on the table to pick a guy or two up.
Minnesota is not trading Towns. This years draft is to good to trade away those picks. You are selling way to low on Wiseman. You are creating a hole by trading Wiggins.
This years draft is one of the worst of all time FYI
It is not considered to be that way by people that evaluate players for a living.
If Portland flames out in the 1st round I would call and offer that package then ask if they’re ready to blow it up and trade Dame
Also heard on Duncan’s pod that apparently Zion isn’t happy? Seriously doubt he’s on the block any time soon but stranger things have happened.
You must have missed that “Zion wants to play for the Knicks!” twitter hysteria a while back.
Last year there were so many mock trades that had the Warriors getting a star and all they got was Oubre. Don’t expect some massive acquisition.
trolling the warriors I see.
That is based off a fact and not a troll at all. I’m sure last off-season you definitely expected Oubre to be the only acquisition.
#1 you attack me if I make 1 comment about the Lakers but its OK for you to live at the warriors rumor site. #2 the only player that was rumored to go to warriors was Giannis. Last year I wasn’t expecting anyone to be traded because the payroll is too high to trade for a player. All those rumors are mainly wishful thinking by homers. Just like how Laker fans think Curry wants to go to LA. Wishful thinking.
I made a very legit comment about how the Warriors got endless hype for their player exemption and in the end it didn’t amount to much. You make comments on how LeBron and the Lakers are actually not good like a spin doctor.
I said Lakers was not good? I never said that. You keep getting me mixed up with somebody else. All I have been saying all year there is not 1 dominate team in the NBA anyone of about 5 teams could win it all. So you perceive that as saying Lakers are not good? SMH stop playing the victim card.
Mock trades and $10 wouldn’t get you a small coffee at Starbucks. They are never based on reality.
As KD explained on his podcast, no one wanted to play for Kerr if he kept refusing to run PNRs with Steph. The whole point of getting people to join GSW is to play with Steph. Now Kerr finally started running PNR’s I expect GSW to either get that big “4th superstar” this offseason, or get a bunch of better-quality, higher IQ players than Oubre, Bazemore and Wanamaker. Those three were the biggest fail of the FO, and it’s because no one wants to play for a guy who refuses to use plays that work. At least Kerr does use the PNR now, so I’d expect a much more cohesive unit coming to GSW next year, along with the title.
Wiseman is staying
Ridiculous
Never give up Wiseman. But KAT on Warriors is intriguing . Wiggins , I take him on Knicks. He needs a fan base to massage his ego. Warriors have options even if they they don’t get top 3 pick. TWolves are yrs away. I like KAT but he’s not exactly a mamba mentality type of guy. He does need Curry and Warriors to wake up Imo.
A star will need to get disgruntled and then Want to come to GSW
Possible candidates –
KL or PG – If Clippers meltdown
KAT- Unlikely
Butler – Unlikely and not greatest fit Imo
Jaylen Brown – This could be interesting
Simmons- If Philly melts down /Would need 3rd team for Wiseman; unlikely but love the fit/potential
Cant really think of any more; highly doubt Beal
Agh *Brandon Ingram makes a lot of sense to me as well
Deep thoughts by Draymond Green. Dude is a thinker.
He is 100% correct. The Warriors aren’t even close to being contenders.
Only delusional homers like Marty think otherwise. Is he in hibernation?
You didn’t read his full quote.
Highest basketball IQ in the NBA by far. Needs to be player-coach. 10000x a better interview than Kerr too.
Quit hating on Steve Kerr
He’s got to find a scapegoat for his insane fantastical Warriors predictions never coming true.
Steve Kerr did not argue for more time he called TO with at least 7 seconds on the clock. He won on talent. I can not think of an adjustment in this loss that was good.
I can see the Warriors getting rid of Paschall. I could see them keeping Smiley. He has only played like 30 games in the past 2 seasons. He was basically in HS, in terms of development, when he signed. Bigs take longer. If Jordan Bell has really matured as much as he says, he would be an huge defensive asset off the bench. Jessup looks like he has the offense and tenacity to be a key rotation piece. It will be really nice to see Klay back. Oubre could bring them a nice bench depth piece. With a little luck, they might land a spot in the top5 in the draft. The Warriors will be formidable next season.
i don’t see Oubre coming back because some team will over pay for him. He didn’t fit the team well and he wants to start. Unless they can find somebody to take Wiggins $30 million Oubre is not coming back.
In a sign and trade, Oubre could net them a depth piece. I wouldn’t trade Wiggins.
I wouldn’t mind a sign and trade with Oubre but depends what comes back and how much? The Russel sign and trade with the Nets was big mistake.
How do you figure. The Russell sign and trade was to get an asset for losing Durant. They flipped Russell for Wiggins who has been great, Oubre, and potentially a top 5 pick in this upcoming draft. Tell me how that was a big mistake?
It used up all of warriors money on 1 player. It has handicap the team to build a solid bench. Wiggins is good but nowhere near $30 million a year good. Injury exception is gone so is Oubre most likely. Having a bench with all minimum wage players hurts the team. Look how Lakers were able to put in solid players while warriors had Mulder and Bazemore only off the bench.
If they didn’t do the sign and trade they wouldn’t be able to use the money. They had to do it. What part are you missing
You netted Wiggins + Minny pick for free basically
You had no cap even w Durant bouncing
GSW killed everything for that 3 year period in trades There will never be any money for bench players moving forward, your hard capped for a long long time.
Sign and trade would hard cap them, which will make it hard to fill out the bench because they have so many max/near max players.
That’s a great Point xtraflamy !!
You can’t sign and trade and stay over the cap. When the Warriors did sign-and-trade with D’Angelo Russell and Kevin Durant they had to dump half of their bench. But it was worth it to keep the max slot in house because you can use other ways to fill your bench with the exceptions Etc.
Besides, number one or two stud is more important then a couple of guys at the end of your bench. Bring in the stud then use two exceptions for key bench guys, and then ring Chasers at the minimum salaries, then worry about the nine ten eleven guys on your bench.
Great point I totally forgot about that. Sign-and-trade with Kelly oubre will NOT happen this summer. Either he walks or they match the RFA offer. And I think there’s only three days to do so.. so I’m sure he’ll walk this summer. Kelly Oubre is gone.
Meyers better not waste what little he has on a bench to resign Oubre. Warriors played better without Oubre down the stretch. Oubre is a inconsistent player. I do not want him back its better to spend it on a bench.
IDK who’s offering Oubre much of anything after the season he just had
this is the NBA players get over paid on potential. he will get multiple years north of $10 million a year. What would be funny is if Looney turns down his option year of $5 million thinking he can get more on the open market.
Oh arc that would be horrible. Looney is the perfect role player at a decent salary. Good pick-and-roll defense for a big man, doesn’t need the ball, doesn’t complain about shots or lack thereof. He better not opt out, he probably could get more on the open market.
Hard to say if Looney would get more on the open market. He fits the warriors as a back up center but can he fit other teams?
Looney always looks scared and unsure of himself out there
Disagree, Looney was awesome that entire late season run. He does need to be paired with another big-type C who isn’t Wiseman though. Kerr loves that Bogut/Javale-style high IQ bigman and Looney isn’t really that, but has slowly become something close to it.
If GSW keep Wiseman they have to make him shoot 3’s and play him in the KD role. Another huge fail by the FO was to not spot this and instead try and use him as the Bogut-type, which at 19 with zero experience, he clearly couldn’t be less of.
If I’m the Warriors I Steph right now for LaMello Ball and 3 1st round picks
What are you babbling about?
Another fan that thinks the warriors would trade Curry. SMH
Nah, sign and trade Oubre for Kawhi after the Clippers predictably flame out again.
You’re so crazy. That’s worse than saying the Warriors would trade Wiseman.
There are Homers then there are Marty’s . Doesn’t get out much. By now Don’t get why even respond to him. Sillyman got more sense
No one trashed GSW’s front office and head coach more on this site than me, the biggest GSW fan on this site. I feel I was 100% on every single thing I said and it was never more evident than the idiots running an 8-man staff the last month+ of the season. Those morons in the front office literally said “Yeah we have a top 3 MVP and top 3 DPOY player, thats not worthwhile even filling out a full roster for”. They actually listened to the online haters who cried when Klay got hurt and decided that the entire season was over, so pathetic. All they had to do was go all-in all year, not just in the offseason, and GSW are top 4. Evan Fournier makes this team top 4 this season, ffs.
Infuriating season, but less Bazemore, less low IQ types, the easier the next 5 titles will come. And they are coming. Curry’s new extension of his prime will be sure of that. Yall get your licks in now, Curry just showed everyone who he really is this season, and everyone was running scared of him – a full season of the last couple months of Curry is going to have you cowards all running scared, like Lakers were in the play in game.
KEEP: Curry, Thompson, Green, JTA, Poole, Looney.
Everyone else should be considered to be on the hot seat or trade table, especially the clearly-checked out all year coach Steve Kerr. Want to talk about “Light Years”? Make Draymond player-coach and watch every player in the league taking a paycut to come play with Steph.
Please stop talking as if GSW are “hard capped” – they have nothing but trade pieces, and hopefully will hire the right person to flip out what they have for the best possible 11 guys to add to those 6 above. That core is going to be absurdly good next season already, GSW fans are going to spend all offseason salivating over our options. Those 6 are as good a 6 as anyones, it’s just the guys around them who lacked.
Does anyone actually care about the playoffs now though? The NBA’s current 2 highest rated games are the last game of the Raptors/GSW finals, and the GSW/LAL play-in. The Bucks buzzer beater was cool, I guess, but it just feels wrong without GSW there.
GSW owns the NBA, do not forget this.
So what do you think of Kerr over playing Curry yesterday? Sounded like in his after game comments he was regretting it since they went cold shooting the ball with curry on the court.
As soon as the mute button comes to mobile, I’m never looking at your comments again
Blatant homerism isn’t necessarily a bad thing, everyone has their team and can sometimes lose sight of things with the emotions involved. But Marty pairs that with A) a caustic attitude towards anyone who disagrees and B) a complete ignorance of GSW’s salary cap issues and general NBA knowledge. A troll if there ever was one.
@Marty – I will say, with 100% confidence, that you are not the biggest Warriors fan on this site. Loudest? Certainly. Most predictable in your takes? Totally. Most exhausting to read? Yep.
Just because we don’t have cognitive diarrhea splashing all over the comments doesn’t mean that we aren’t passionate fans.
Try nuance. Subtlety. Optimism. Loyalty. Logic. Do some research on the cap, and on the business side of the game. A wee more reading on sports psychology. Or just grow up.
En boca cerrada, no entran moscas.
No. The problem is that he doesn’t follow the Warriors. He criticizes with ridiculous statements. He criticizes Draymond Green for only scoring 8 points a night. That’s because Draymond focuses on defense, rebounding, and assists. Steph Curry called him the heart of the team. The Warriors thrive on ball movement. Recognizing who has the hot scoring hand. The Warriors always lose when they turn over the ball…
Trade Andrew Wiggins, Eric Paschall and this years 14th overall pick for Pascal Siakim.
In free agency add a vets min back up PG for Curry someone like Ish Smith or Jeff Teague.
And with the 6th overall pick select Corey Kispert.
1. Curry. Smith/Teague
2. Thompson. Poole. Mulder. Lee
3. Kispert. Bazemore. JTA
4. Green. Looney. Smailagic
5. Siakim. Wiseman
I like it.
Do you suggest the Warriors sign-and-trade Oubre? I like your thinking. One of the more sensible comments on this site for sure.
Sign and trade or let him walk, he’s just not been a good fit and the team would be better without him. Thompson will be back, Kispert is a better fit and then they have depth behind them so there wouldn’t be a need for him.
If they were to sign and trade I’d target, Terrance Ross, Josh Richardson, Derrick Jones Jr, George Hill, someone like that who can provide an impact off the bench. If none of that is available then maybe someone like Delon Wright as your back up PG
Nope. Smith sucked when he was here. Teague is on the downside of his career. Siakim isn’t a Center, and is considered to be overpriced. Kispert at 6 is a bit of a stretch. Barnes or Kuminga look better in that range. Mann, Butler, or Springer look better at #14.
Disagree. Siakim isn’t a centre that’s right but he’s been playing small ball 5 all year and it’s been his best spot. Between Green Wiseman Siakim and Looney you’d have enough to cover the 5 spot. Most centres in today’s game are getting smaller and smaller. Look at DeAndre Jordan now, Nets can’t play him he’s not small and quick enough, they play Griffin at the 5.
Secondly the top 5 will be in no order Suggs Cunningham Green Kuminga and Mobley. You could have either of the Johnsons, Barnes or whoever else but there is big question marks over those guys making the transition to the NBA, after not having good college season. Kispert on the other hand was excellent last year, he’s one of the best shooters coming to the league, he’s done 4 years of college ball at Gonzaga and will be NBA ready, not to mention he’s a great fit in GSW game style.
He’s projected at around 10 so it’s a little reach but he’s going to be good.
As for the 14th pick it would be traded to Toronto for Siakim and there isn’t exactly much talent around there anyway and as for the back up point guard spot it’s exactly that. You just want a vet that can hold his own defensively, help the young guys and be somewhat serviceable running an offence if he has too.
It’s pretty obvious they can’t just run it back next year without making a big change cause they sucked this year really badly other than Steph. With Thompson returning that’s a huge boost but your going to need more than that.
From the scouting reports I’ve read, Kispert struggled in the tourney. People question his ability to transition to the NBA. Why draft Kispert when you have Jessup waiting in the wings? He is a deadly shooter, and learned a lot in Australia. Bogut raves about him. With Wiggins, he solidifies the Small Forward position. He can also play Shooting Guard. If Jordan Bell has really matured, he solves your depth problem at Center.
Toronto would have to really like the 14th pick for that to happen.
SCREW the Cap Issues !! Funny, How All the Playoff Teams seem to be way over the Salary Cap every Single year and the NBA never complains about them. All of a Sudden Now we have to worry about the Salary Cap. Most of them Play Off Teams have Salaries over $128m + and here we are worried about $109m Salary Cap. It’s BS, either we want a winning team or we don’t. It’s Obvious if we want a Winning Team and go to the Playoffs them we have to go over the Cap or just be content w/ a Lottery pick Every year. If they Trade Barnes and let Holmes walk, I’m done with this Sac Disaster of a Team. Owner is ranked dead last out of all 30 teams. They don’t want a winning team, but they damn sure want your money at the gate.

KHE, you’re working, but this list does not demonstrate knowledge of CBA rules for trading, or why or how the cap is soft, or how the Kings owner wants to spend his money… But these are the issues, not detailed dollar amounts. Bas.Ref. does that better.
A player can be kept putting the team over the cap. That is how teams go over, but you don’t sound big on keeping players.
Signing new players requires capspace.
The rules make it hard to get rid of obligations. If you don’t like a player, chances are nobody else does either, so you are stuck with him.
Barnes is appreciated by some so might draw a decent offer. Kings should take it… There is a reason he is so relaxed… It is disinterest not poise.
Hield, maybe if the Kings take Adams off the Pels. There’s a nice trade there somewhere since Holmes probably leaves.
You claim to not care about the Sacramento Kings. But then you go on to state how much you hate the Kings. You sound like Marty McRae.
OR just maybe as a Kings Fan since 1983 when they came to Sac, we are Sick n Tired of the Perineal BS that continues year in and year out, never resulting in a Play Off birth or Championship. Even the NBA has ranked our Owner #30 out of the 30 Teams, dead last amongst All the Owners. Then when you get one or 2 good players, that actually want to stay and play for you, NOPE sorry can’t afford you, so we will let you go and bring in a nobody. NO TEAM that has gone to the Championship Games have Less than 4 Star Players. We are Sick and Tired of Hearing, Wait til Next year, and then Nothing Changes. Just maybe we are Tired of being Told we are in a Rebuilding Mode, that seems to have been going on now for over 15 years and counting, and never seems to end. You make it sound like we should all just stick with them and let it continue. They have No Problem taking our Money, and what do we get in return, more Heart Ache and Pain and ZERO Playoffs or Championships. I earned my right to state what I wanted, after buying Season Tickets and Merchandise for well over a decade, til i moved away from there and couldn’t go anymore. Right now, I’d rather see them Pack Up and Leave and have No Team than see this Continual Charade Continue at our expense. let them go to somewhere else and be their Clown and Circus.
Well said. I was just trying to say why rosters cost differently, legally.
Some owners will not spend big unless they feel close to a title.
I hate Marty McRae. Because he hates the Warriors. If he was a real Warriors fan, he would understand that Steph Curry doesn’t need Pick and Roll play to score. If you are a real Warriors fan, you would realize his step back 3 pointers are a thing of beauty.
If Klay comes back healthy next year and Curry actually plays the team can easily
Clinch a 4th or 5th seed. I don’t think they are far off at all. They do need help but they are not the Trailblazers.
