Raptors swingman Rodney Hood suffered a fracture of the second metacarpal on his left hand in tonight’s game, tweets Josh Lewenberg of TSN.
With just four games left to play and Toronto out of playoff contention, Hood is likely done for the season. He played in 16 games after being acquired from the Trail Blazers in March and averaged 3.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in 12.7 minutes per night.
Hood, 28, has a $10,851,246 contract for next season, but it’s currently non-guaranteed and he’s unlikely to be part of the Raptors’ future. His guarantee deadline precedes the 2021 free agent period, so he’ll likely reach the open market ahead of this year’s FA class.
I think that it was virtually certain that Hood would be cut before his guaranteed date before this. I think we can safely remove the word virtually now.
Yup. Hood’s been hovering as a quasi-3+D guy in the league for a while now—despite there being conflicting evidence that he’s very good shooting 3’s or playing defense—but he’s been legitimately terrible this year.
He’s young enough that he’ll probably land on a roster next year, but hard to see it for being more than the vet’s min.
How is a two-year contract, second year not guaranteed, different from a 1+1 with team option? It seems more frequent these days, almost a preference.
The cut date of June23 is about halfway through the playoffs, per NBA.com. (May22 – July22… draft July29… freeAgency Aug2.).
This was possibly not the case when the contract was signed. Can dates be modified in this unusual year? (Of course TOR is almost out of it already.)
$10k is a decent valuation of him, healthy, which of course is often not his case. Last year n 21 games he had a remarkable TS% of 63%, and a 3pt% of 49%. Defense: not bad by the numbers.
Hood truly hasn’t been the same since he left Utah…
Hood has steadily gone the opposite way. Cavs getting another lottery pick, Again. I would clean house there. Change culture. All the stuff coming out of there. I wouldn’t want any of it on my team. Move Sexton now, while he got value. Or maybe you luck out with Cade or Suggs. Okoro, Allen, Garland move Love. And commit to these players. Love still has value imo.
Sexton+Love for Kemba+first is a salary match. Boston gets a guard with similar stats but much younger & more dynamic; Smart is an ideal complement. Cavs move on with a happy leader at his best position though still no backcourt D. Love gets to the playoffs as a backup.
Cavs Hopefully get Cade or Mobley. Barnes would be disappointing like Okoro but would be more helpful.
