The Warriors have interest in bringing back free agent wings Kelly Oubre and Kent Bazemore, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. However, it sounds like neither player will be as affordable on his next contract as he was on his previous deal.
Appearing on the HoopsHype podcast alongside Yossi Gozlan, Scotto said he has gotten the sense from a league source that Oubre and his camp believe they can get a long-term contract worth at least $20MM annually, which may be higher than the Warriors are willing to go. As for Bazemore, Scotto didn’t specify an asking price, but said the goal for the veteran forward is to get a multiyear deal — ideally one that covers three years rather than two.
The Warriors have Oubre’s full Bird rights, but only hold Non-Bird rights on Bazemore, so their ability to offer him a raise on his minimum-salary contract will be limited.
Here’s more from Scotto, including another note on the Warriors:
- Although the Warriors won’t be actively looking to move James Wiseman, they’d be open to listening to inquiries on the big man if an All-Star caliber player is available, a league source tells Scotto.
- There’s a belief that Lonzo Ball will be able to get around $20MM per year in restricted free agency, though it’s unclear if the Pelicans are prepared to go that high, says Scotto, adding that rumors of the Bulls’ interest in the former No. 2 overall pick seem to “have some legs.”
- Re-signing RFAs-to-be Ball and Josh Hart would almost certainly take the Pelicans into luxury tax territory, so Scotto expects Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams to be names that come up in trade rumors this offseason. Bledsoe will earn $18.1MM in 2021/22, while Adams will make $17.1MM.
- Scotto says he has heard from an executive or two around the NBA that Spurs assistant Will Hardy is viewed as a legit candidate to be Gregg Popovich‘s eventual replacement as San Antonio’s head coach. Hardy received consideration from multiple teams that sought a head coach in 2020.
Yes
I’d like to trade Wiseman and Wiggins
And of course Wolves pick and Warriors own pick
My Overpay bum rankings for remaining contract
1 John Wall 80 million overpay
2 Paul George 60 million
3 Walker 49 million
45 Wiggins 20 million
For?
You make no sense.
Where exactly are Draymond ($77M) and Klay Thompson ($121M) at?
Christian Wood and one of Danuel House, David Nwaba, or Sterling Brown and a 1st round pick for Wiseman. Maybe if we get more picks they can have the MIN pick.
This gives us a big for RIGHT NOW that can still be productive the next 5 years(while wiseman develops) as well as a real 3&Drotation wing, while reloading the Warrior’s war chest so IF they then want to go and get a Beal/Siakam type, they’d have the Wigs/Oubre AND several picks to make it happen
BUT— how about going for a deeeeep bench, without getting older, while adding some left size, playmaking and defensive versatility?
Memphis. Why they’d do it? Ja, Jaren Jackson, Wiseman and Clarke* with Jalen Suggs/Green/whomever with the 5-8th pick from MIN, would be up with Lonzo/Hart/Ingram/Zion/Hayes(Kira Lewis/Nickeil Alexander Walker) as top teams of the mid-late 2020’s.
MEM gets: Wiseman, MIN pick, and either Wiggins or Oubre sign and trade(and maybe Paschall/Mulder)
Dubs get: Valancuinas(6’11/265; 29yo), Kyle Anderson(6’9/229; 27), Dillon Brooks(6’6-6’7/225; 25), and one of Xavier Tillman(6’8/245; 22) or Clarke(6’8/215; 24)
Dubs post trade:
Starting 5: Steph, Klay,
Oubre OR Wiggins
Draymond, Valancuinas
Bench: Brooks, Anderson, Looney, Poole, JTA, Tillman(or Clarke), Lee, and the 13th spot between Mulder/Paschall/Bazemore/Mannion/Payton II/Jessup.
Dubs don’t need a Beal especially if you give up players. Dubs need to have a rotation deep enough to go into the playoffs and veteran playmakers w/defensive versatility to support Steph.
Everyone has a legit big body big/bigger than Looney nowadays(Nurkic/Kanter, AD/Drummond/Gasol, Wood, Jokic/JaVale, Embiid/Dwight Howard, Bam/Dedmon, KAT, KP/Kleber, Turner/Sabonis, Adams, Zubac/Ibaka, Gobert, Randle/Robinson, Tristan Thompson, Vucevic, Brook Lopez/Portis, Jarrett Allen, Ayton, Richaun Holmes, Bryant/Robin Lopez/Len.
That’s 20 teams with legit bigs.
There WILL be games where the game slows down and we can’t expect JTA/Dray/EP/Loon to be at their best AND take the pushes and shoved from guys 6 inches taller and 30/40lbs heavier.
Valancuinas, Anderson, Tillman help with that, as they(outside Wiseman/Loon) are immediately the biggest guys on the team.
Anderson would play 2-4 for us, Valancuinas, Looney, JTA and Draymond could very well be a top 5 center rotation.
Brooks is an improving point of attack defender and finished this year giving guys like Steph, Dame and Beal FITS on defense.
The pelicans are such a poorly run team.
The Warriors will NOT run back the same team. They’re not going to add two Rookies to the current Squad and give it a go.
James Wiseman is on the table, trade bait. The two pics, number 6 and 14, are on the table, trade bait. Andrew Wiggins HAS TO GO, he is not a clutch performer. He’s not a championship small forward.
Kelly oubre is gone. 20 million per year, no thanks. Kent Bazemore? Maybe.., if he takes small money for three years. But he could be gone too if the Warriors score two Big Time veterans. One star and one reliable guy. Bazemore can go elsewhere looking for 3 years.
The Warriors will just pick up Damion Lee or Michael Mulder types to fill out 10-15. Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson.. guys like that they’ve picked up before on minimum deals. That’s how it will play out.
I mean the team when Steph was off-court was punishingly terrible, everyone was a bad fit for each other, they were totally unwatchable and blew every lead they had, why on earth would they bring back two guys who don’t fit any part of any rotation the Warriors had? Someone could make a compilation video of all the times Bazemore, Oubre and Wiggins passed up a wide open Curry in his best season, just to throw up a brick themselves. Pathetic.
This is just lazy, bad journalism to think GSW wouldn’t completely tear down this team other than the 6 high IQ players they have.
Curry, Green, Thompson, Toscano, Poole and Looney all can stay – everyone else is on the table and will be moved for higher IQ, better-fitting players for Curry+Green.
Oubre is gone for sure. He doesn’t want to be a 6th man off the bench. Somebody will give him a starting spot for too much money.
Wiseman is about 50/50 to be traded. If he is traded they will use their top pick on a young center.
Poole is now their 6th man off the bench. JTA, Lee, and Mulder will probably be back. Pascal will be back unless he is part of a trade. Mannion and Jessup will be getting time. I have a feeling Chris will be back. Looney might test FA since he has a player option. If he does he is gone.
If wiseman is traded(albeit w/the MIN pick/etc, I’d like to go for Isaiah Todd at 14 and then Sandro Mamukelashvili with a 2nd rounder
Warriors 2022
Curry
Klay
Stud Allstar wing
Green
Looney
Bench..
1 key guy,
Poole,
JTA,
Paschall?,
Chriss?,
Mannion,
+ ring chaser vets (who join after 2 vets come aboard in trade.)
There’s so many names thrown around and what I mean by “1 key guy” off the bench (or starting in place of Looney?) could be a Steven Adams or a guy like Lonzo Ball, so many names mentioned out there.
Wiseman, Wiggins, #6 pic, #14 pic, Oubre.., Gone. Thoughts?
Love the deal idea that nets GSW Kawhi+Adams in a 4 teamer for for Beal, Wiggins, Wiseman, Mulder and the GSW pick in 2021, GSW 2nd round in 2022 and 1st rd in 2023.
This keeps the Wolves pick to try and pry a low-paid young breakout superstar to add to it.
But yeah as a fan I want to fling all the guys who repeatedly passed up an open Steph Curry in his greatest scoring season into the sun, those guys are Bazemore, Oubre and Wiggins. Oubre already gone because he wants to start, but there’s no real way for Klay and Wiggins to exist together either, they’re too similar. Wiggy gotta go (he’s actually really good too, he helps any team that’s not GSW).
Mannion is a g leaguer, he doesnt belong in the NBA. Awful, awful basketball player. Cut him altogether.
Steven Adams in GSW??? Da what????
The GSW system does not need to pay a Center more than 5 mill a yr… 2 cheap guys, ya got one in Looney Rn …hell get McGee on the Bi annual and call it a day
Let them dream. Warriors fans live in their own fantasy world.
Being raised in California by hippie parents must have that effect.
@ Wally Dang… lol salty much? Just cause the warriors destroyed and demolished the Rocket’s franchise doesn’t mean you should take it out on all the fans. Most warrior fans know Kawhi to GSW ain’t happening
You didn’t put any names in your post like you sometimes do so I assume you’re including me here.
Wally I’ve done my best to be respectful with you. Please be respectful of me as well.
Being raised in Texas must make you bitter and vindictive. What a sad life you live.
Yeah @wally?
Your parents either did a terrible job raising you or are very disappointed in who you’ve become
Wiseman to NOP in that deal for Adams.
The GSW system doesn’t need to pay people based on arbitrary biases. If it takes this to get Kawhi here, GSW should do it 100% of the time.
I got slandered for wanting McGee this year, and the morons slandering me were proven wrong over and over again. If that trade can’t happen I’m totally happy with him on this team again too. Maybe even with this trade included – GSW needs to fill its roster, not play 8 guys all year.
Arbitrary bias or proven effectiveness for a decade in the system?-
It does matter in basketball with cap
I couldn’t think of a worse fit for GSW than Adams if I spent all day
KL will not be a warrior , Paul George, there’s an outside shot Imo ….. Im not a George fan but he’s there prototype and it makes a ton of sense …the got the salary match, they got the young talent and they got the draft capital and the timeline is perfect
Why the Warriors want Adams? He is underachiever. He can’t shoot 3’s. Wiseman has much more upside than Adams.
Yes he sort of a grunt but he’s a real nice enforcer. He’s mobile and perhaps in the Warriors system he can be more effective than what we see now ?? Seems like some guys get better when they play for the Warriors?
But he’s ready to go now. He can anchor your front-line with toughness and rebounding and block a shot here and there. He’s ready to go and doesn’t need 3 years of seasoning to get ready. I guess that’s my thought, I don’t know about anyone else.
I just dont like the system fit Gary, not really a knock on Adams; altho I do think Adams expiration date on the milk box is drawing closer and closer and thats more indicative of the NBA game changing rapidly at C than his own so to speak
GSW has a great proven offensive system …Imo it leads you to not have to pay much for a center which allows you to direct capital elsewhere more suited for the system
Its why I didn’t understand the Wiseman pick (coupled w age/readiness) – In their defense last years draft was a tough cookie to navigate- If GSW wasnt such in win now win now mode my perspective would change….but they are, and they should be, they are close so they can parlay all this and still be spades opening night next yr …they will def be one of the more interesting teams to follow this offseason
Cap, well said !
You were slandered over Burks not McGee. Nobody’s going to keep your fantasy team from getting McGee. Your persecution complex consolidates dislikes, the better to draw target lists.
I mean, unless you’re getting Lonzo or Ingram back from NOP, I would trade Wiseman with the pick there(I think you only mentioned sending Wiseman) but the NO/Adams trade scenario only works if Oubre/Wigs heads to NOP. I mean shooot if you send Wigs+Oubre S&T and Wiseman, might get Zo, Bledsoe, and Adams.
I’d prefer a return around Zo, Hart and Hernangomez over any Bledsoe+Adams package, however Hernangomez would really be best if we keep Wiseman and had a Lion/Wiseman/Hernangomez center rotation
I’d rather trade Wiseman, MIN pick, and either Wiggins or sign and trade Oubre for Valancuinas, Brooks, Tillman and Kyle Anderson.
OR Wiseman and like, Paschall for Wood and Danuel House and a 1st. Maybe I could be talked into thinking about Wigs(or Oubre S&T)+JW for Wall+Wood+House+picks or something like that, but if we send HOU the MiN pick, Wiseman AND Wigs, beat believe we get 2-3 1st’sz
You are going to be upset when next season rolls around. Wiseman and Wiggins aren’t going anywhere. I don’t understand why you would want to trade both draft picks.
Vince I don’t think they’re going to run it back with two rookies and a couple free agent bench guys. I think they’re going to swing for the fences. Just my opinion. Be interesting to see how it plays out.
It’s understandable if GSW doesn’t want to move forward with a young C like Wiseman, but (unless Durant is coming back, and even then) they’re not contending with their top bigs being Green and Looney. Also understandable that they’d like to move Wiggins. But it will cost.
So, I modified your shopping list a tad to (i) a 30 mpg C big, and (ii) a true 3 (or, in today’s parlance, a combo F).
First stop, Chicago, to see if there’s any buyer’s remorse on Vucevic and/or the love for Williams has faded. I’d offer your entire package (Wiseman, both picks and Wiggins as a must take) for Vucevic, Williams and (if Bulls insist) take Amino.
I expect a “no” answer. Next Toronto or Indiana or both at once. If the package can net them Anunoby and Turner, then I’d do it. I see both of the players going to Toronto (Wiseman because they like bigs and Wiggins because he’s from Canada), and the Pacers getting most of the value from the picks. Pacers have made Turner available in the past (and Sabonis too, but I don’t think he’s available at this point).
Another eastern team that might pay up for a young talented big man is Charlotte. But I don’t have any other thoughts on them as a deal partner.
The Bulls aren’t trading Vucevic. He is a foundation for their future.
I suspect you’re right.
Vucevic is more for their present. But he should a full year trial in Chicago; otherwise they look dumb for trading a first for him.
It was a bad trade though. Must have been made to appease Lavine.
Hey DXC, great post as usual. I enjoyed the read and the walk through the different teams and trade scenarios. Good stuff.
Speaking of the Eastern Conference, this was mentioned yesterday, I sure would love it if Simmons was available. He’d be a monster on the Warriors and would fit perfectly.
Simmons would fit perfectly, and extend Curry’s career by a few years. For it to happen, though, I think you’ll need the Knicks (or Hawks) to beat the Sixers. Rivers will need someone to throw under the bus, and Embid is too big.
There’s the trade, getting Simmons. Adams would likely work out great, but the team has fans of some golden past to please.
KL isn’t coming.
No no no. Adams sucks. Why would the Warriors actually want him?
I was talking about that reaction. Adams does not suck. He is in the way of ZionW… does GSW have ZW?— no. Anyone similar, or with durable physicality like Bogut?— no.
Oubre is s**t why would anyone pay him $20 mil/yr?
Don’t you think some team desperate for scoring will give him 15-20 per year?
Eric Bledsoe and a 1st round draft pick in exchange for 1 can of Spam. Pelicans should jump at that!
Oubre
Market value 3 years $36 million with 3rd year team option
Where’s Smiley in all of this?
Light Years !
Lol, Smiley ? Isn’t he a 20 year old G League All Star LOL.. I think they took a flyer on him in the second round when he was 18. Didn’t they buy the pic for two million dollars or something? Time to move on to the next guy.
Smiley’s on the list with Jordan Bell and Patrick McCaw as purchased 2nd round picks taking a flyer on a guy.
Light years? That’s the 3 rings in 5 years. That’s purchasing a team for 450 mil, now worth 4 bill.
Light years? That’s taking a chance a good character guy like Curry and giving him 10 million a year when they didn’t know he was even going to play again. Light years? That’s calling the best basketball brain in the history of mankind and confessing, “we need help.” And then shutting up and listening to that advice for six years.
Yep light-years. Pretty happy with where it all stands today. I don’t think it’s over. Who’s coming up next? Lakers are getting older, Clippers are getting older, Blazers core are hitting 30 plus.
Who’s up-and-coming? The Suns with 36 year-old little general and the team collapses when he pulls up lame? The Utah Jazz okay yes they’ve got a good mix of Youth and vets and they could be good for a while. Everyone else is a question mark. Maybe Denver could be good hopefully Murray comes back healthy. Everyone else is a question mark. I like where the Warriors are sitting right about now. Light years.
I’ll add my homerism here… Memphis is ahead of the curve, rebuilding wise, and might not be far off from being a legit threat. Good core, needs some seasoning, and I like our coach a lot.
Good point Hubcap !! Memphis is definitely on the upswing and has fewer question marks and some of the other teams.
West is really solid but I dont see any powerhouses the way things are today moving forward –
GSW gets to throw a name in the hat, as a fan that’s all ya can really hope for
I kinda like the 10 names in the hat years over the 2~3 Superteams of recent yester years
Nailed it, Gary. BTW, so many that post on this site whine about “losing” Jerry West. I do agree that he helped mastermind the Warriors turn around, and yes I did not want to see him go, but the clippers down 2-0. Isn’t Jerry West running that show?
Clippers = Lawrence Frank. West is ollld.
Jerry West is just an advisor. He’s not the GM or running the show really so to speak. He really did build the Warriors roster and helped with key decisions like drafting Klay Thompson Trading Monta Ellis acquiring Andrew Bogut hiring Steve Kerr and Bob Myers Etc.
Jerry West also built the Memphis Grizzlies into Western power houses with consistency for 5 years or 7 years or so. Of course he built the Lakers brought in Shaq etc. Helps to be in LA but still we saw other GM’s Burn It To The Ground almost. I think the Warriors Listen to Jerry where as with the Clippers, his hands are tied a little bit because Kawhi Leonard, nobody tells him what to do. And they already have a GM as X%sure said.
I’d take Wiseman on Knicks. Mitch and Frank and a #1 pick. Mitch is the rim protector they need . Not a fan of Obrue. But with Bird rights at least they can do a sign trade.
Ball is not worth 15 mill. Good luck with that. Want no part of him. So keep the Knicks off his name. Dinwiddie at 20 mill is ten times better .
Curry has a strong odor
Tumeric is good for you
I love A.Ball for Chicago but I’ll settle for half on D.Rose back home.
