Timberwolves associate head coach David Vanterpool as well as assistant Bryan Gates won’t return to Chris Finch’s staff next season, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweets. Vanterpool and Gates were holdovers from Ryan Saunders‘ staff. Numerous players around the league openly questioned Minnesota’s decision to hire Finch away from the Raptors’ staff, instead of promoting minority candidate Vanterpool when Saunders was let go.
We have more on the Timberwolves:
- Anthony Edwards could be “scary” good after a strong rookie season, president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas said this week, per Dave Campbell of The Associated Press. “He doesn’t know how good he is and, scary enough for us, we don’t know how good he is,” Rosas said. “You’re talking about a 19-year-old who’s late to the sport. It’s not always pretty, not always efficient, but the signs of greatness are there.”
- Edwards expects the team to participate in the postseason next year, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune writes. “I’m ready to go to the playoffs,” he said. “I know this is my first year, but I just see how happy teams [are], knowing they’re going to play more basketball. So I want that feeling next year.”
- Karl-Anthony Towns wants to make a point that he’s not concerned about sharing the spotlight with Edwards, according to Chris Hine of the Star Tribune. “He’s showed exactly why he’s the No. 1 pick and why he’s the Rookie of the Year,” Towns said. “So we’ve got to put our egos to the side at all times. We cannot let that get between us. We cannot let that be a story of amazing talents coming together and not making it work.”
- The Wolves’ front office made a prudent choice with Jaden McDaniels at the No. 28 overall pick, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic notes. McDaniels started regularly in the final 27 games of the season and showed great promise as a 3-and-D wing. Having productive players on low-cost contracts is necessary to keep the team’s core intact while still avoiding the luxury tax, Krawczynski adds.

Come on man. Wolves will be competing for the 9th spot. Get your head on straight ;D
Based off every Edwards media appearance I’m pretty sure he knows how good he thinks he is.
And he obviously knows how good he thinks his team is if he expects Minnesota to make the postseason for just the second time since 2004.
I’m sure Vanterpool is disappointed…but that job hasn’t turned out well for anyone…not sure I ever expect it to either unless the NBA adds two teams in the West and moves Minnesota East
Edwards can expect all he wants. This team isn’t winning anything anytime soon.
Ya must be nuts, next season the wolves are a 5 6 or 7 seed,Utah is not all that good, neither is phoenix and the Lakers are an injury away from LeBron retiring, his body is is starting to show 18 plus seasons, Portland is decent but not as good as the wolves and Memphis is o.k. but not ready yet, Oklahoma and Houston are not there yet, and new Orleans is no better than the wolves,it’s coaching wolves have talent but 2nd tier coaching, they need to upgrade the power forward and or center position,if Towns is a power forward then they need a center if Towns is the center then they need a power forward, maybe package Beasley and layman for big, there’s some good bigs available.
Vanterpool could be a candidate if the Blazers decide to move on from Stotts. He knows the team.
Stotts is already the Orlando coach…
So KAT has this attitude towards Edwards, but not Wiggins?
Wiggins as a piece of work here in MN. Zero effort on defense…Was laughable that ANYONE could say different. His outside shot was horrible. He didn’t wanna be here and he let it show most nights.
Yes… Edwards being Edwards, I suspect he likes being where he is by nature, Minnesota included. Five years from now that could change.

No one has realized they have not all been healthy and played a full season together,D Lo,Towns,Edwards,Hermangomez, McDaniels, starters,Rubio,Beasley, Vanderbilt and Nowell,is a decent bench, again they can package layman,Beasley, and a pick in the future for a decent big man,Nowell is even a possibility to be traded also, maybe Hermangomez to,this team can win it just needs another serviceable big man like turner from the pacers,or grant from pistons,or Aaron Gordon could help.
Naz Reid is good, but he is coming off the bench, the wolves could look to trade Vanderbilt, layman, Hermangomez, and Beasley
Usually teams take on personalities if team leaders. Coach and stars. I’m starting to wonder about Minnys. We all know now that Jimmy was right.
Team has been altered since. He was ceryainly right at the time.
