Warriors wing Damion Lee, who is now out of quarantine, told reporters on Thursday that he contracted COVID-19 and dealt with a number of severe symptoms, as Kendra Andrews of NBC Sports Bay Area details. Lee dealt with a bad case of the virus despite being fully vaccinated, which makes him a rare case, according to data compiled by the CDC.
“I felt like I was hit by two cars at once,” Lee said. “Every step I took, it hurt. There was pain, soreness, it felt like there was a weight on my chest for a couple of days. It was hard to breathe. Loss of appetite, and even still I don’t have my appetite all the way back. Even random headaches, brain fog where I’ll start a conversation and be in on the conversation and then five minutes in, I lose track of what I was talking about or just don’t want to talk anymore.”
Although he was able to return to the team this week, Lee isn’t ready to take the court yet, and with just over a week remaining in the regular season, it’s not clear whether or not he’ll return at all. Noting that the Warriors are likely to take a cautious approach with Lee, Anthony Slater of The Athletic believes the 28-year-old may have played his last game of 2020/21.
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- Of the Warriors’ injured players, Eric Paschall is closest to a return, according to Slater, who say the second-year forward is ramping up his conditions and will likely make it back during Golden State’s current home stand.
- The Warriors will have to add a 14th man to their roster by the middle of next week, and Slater expects Juan Toscano-Anderson to fill that spot, receiving a promotion from his two-way deal. That could open the door for Jordan Bell, whom the Warriors are reportedly eyeing, to take Toscano-Anderson’s spot on a two-way contract.
- Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic about the lessons he has learned during a challenging 2020/21 season. Golden State is 12-16 this season in “clutch” games (games within five points in the last five minutes), which is an area Kerr feels he can help improve. “Definitely some things that I can do better. Just little detail things,” he said. “What happens when you lose some close ones, you tend to think about every single decision you made. Obviously there’s a greater chance that one decision can make a difference in the game just because you have less margin for error. So less margin for error means I gotta be on my game.”
- In case you missed it, Kelly Oubre will miss at least a week or two due to his wrist injury.
It’s beginning to look like I’m going to look forward more to draft lottery day and actual draft day more than I’ll look forward to the Warriors postseason this year. That’s fine, we’ll see how the offseason plays out and look forward to training camp next year. Go Warriors.
I still have a LOT of faith in Steph Curry, who might even level up another one if he goes Playoffs Curry. He’s already shown he can beat anyone and its just a matter of getting him the ball and getting out of the way, but the season will lie on whether or not the low IQ morons on this team like Bazemore keep chucking the ball away in key moments and bricking open shots. Steph and Dray also need to cut down on the low % passes – the low % shots are fine, because Curry nails them, but the stupid full court passes that works like 1 in 10 times gotta go. Steph really does just have to shoot it as often as possible and GSW will win, I hope in the playoffs we see that – Steph shooting the second he’s in range, every play almost. GSW might go deep here, I wouldn’t count Steph out.
Bazemore averages 1 turnover a game and 1 steal…kind of a wash.. He’s shooting 41% on 3’s. My only gripe with him is free throw shooting. 68%.
Paschall was supposed to be coming back for the last 2 weeks and they keep pushing in back. They should just sign bell to a 10 day deal and stop being cheap. warrior fans been told 2 stories first they don’t care about spending money but don’t want to sign a player and spend more tax money. Stop the lies to the fans and be more upfront.
Rudderless ship at the top – Klay got hurt so literally everyone who wasnt a player stopped caring immediately. But the players include the GOAT in his prime, which makes this one of the worst seasons in the clubs history from a front office and head coaching perspective.
GSW is one of the worst-run franchises, right up there with the LA Angels, who are similarly wasting a GOATs prime. Shame on both front offices, both are absolute morons who routinely lie to their fanbases because they can’t say “we are totally clueless as to what we are doing here”, as the Angels continue to ignore pitching and the Warriors continue to ignore high IQ players who best fit playing with Steph and Dray.
Bob Meyer is so over rated as a GM. He has failed so many times and gets a pass for it. He inherited a great team and had KD fall in his lap. Since that time he has done nothing to build a bench instead waste money on mediocre players.
Jordan Poole has turned out pretty good. I believe he drafted him. Paschal is pretty good I believe he drafted him. Oubre was a nice pickup for what was out there. Bob Myers has done a fine job. He also made the Wiggins trade and that has turned out really well for the warriors.
Agreed Skute. Poole and Paschall were late picks. Why? Because they were top of the league in seasons before those late picks. They drafted Green in 2nd round. Other posters, please save the Jerry West excuse. You can’t credit ONLY the players in great seasons and blame ONLY the management in lesser seasons. Why are MANY sports commentaters claiming GSW is overachieving this year?
Wiggins deal was a fall back on the terrible D’Lo signing. Laker fans I know said he was not very good and couldn’t play defense. They were right. Offense only player. That $30 million a season hand ties on spending for the bench.
Wiggins is an incredible defensive player. You don’t even know what you are talking about. He leads the team in blocks and I believe he has one of the lowest fg% against him in the league.
The DLO pick up was just to get a asset for losing Durant. They turned DLO into Wiggins, Oubre and a top 5 pick. I would say Bob Meyers doesn’t get enough credit.
Skute, most of these posters are clueless about the Durant sign and trade that brought in Russell, led to the Wiggins pickup that brought in the Twolves pickup. In the end, Durant move brought GSW Wiggins and a #1 draft pick. Those are the facts that you and I know Skute but that many others here don’t. And I agree, Wiggins is a well rounded player and a great pickup by the supposed idiot Myers.
Where all of the potato heads “Don” ning their thinking caps and “El” evating complaints last season about how these young, uber-healthy athletes couldn’t be affected by SARS-Cov-2? No age group escapes its effects and they can be serious in all age groups. Here is yet another example.
Statistically speaking, you have a better chance of getting in a car accident than you do of contracting Covid after being fully vaccinated like Lee was. There really isn’t much point in worrying about either, unless you are one of those people who just loves to worry. Live your life. When your number is up, your number is up.
You missed my point but I find your fate-based mentality very 19th Century.
“Just little detail things” = “Not chasing wins”
Kerr is the most checked-out coach in pro sports. He apparently blew off a text from Klay Thompson because he was golfing this week. Kerr should stick to golfing if he doesn’t care and is not interested in coaching a winning team, a team that has the best player ever who is just starting his second prime. But no, Kerr literally has a stopwatch on alerting him to bring Steph in halfway through the 4th as he continues to do absolutely nothing to even attempt to help make this team win.
Steve Kerr likes his money and his fame but a coach. No he is not. We shall see after next year if they keep him. Meyers is a top 5 GM bit he will have to produce next year.
