Juan Toscano-Anderson, who is expected to be promoted to the Warriors‘ 15-man roster next week after playing on a two-way contract all season, has impressed coach Steve Kerr with the way he plays the game, writes Marcus White of NBC Sports Bay Area. In a radio interview Friday, Kerr praised Toscano-Anderson for sticking to his NBA dream.
“Twenty-eight years old, he’s bounced around the entire world playing basketball, and I think our fans love him,” Kerr said. “I know we love him as a coaching staff. The guy just gets it. He plays with great energy, he’s smart, he’s tough. He’s improved his skill now as a passer and a shooter to a point where he’s really making a lot of plays out there for us.”
Toscano-Anderson has become a more efficient shooter from everywhere on the court in his second NBA season, White points out. He’s also part of Golden State’s lineup with the best net rating and best offensive rating.
“(When) a guy knows how to play and he can guard multiple spots, he can play in any combination, and that’s his real value to our team,” Kerr said. “He’s not dependent on a certain combination. In pretty much every case, he makes whatever combination he’s with better.”
There’s more on the Warriors:
- Kerr said rookie center James Wiseman is in “great spirits” following meniscus surgery last month, White adds in a separate story. It’s not certain that Wiseman will be ready for the start of training camp, but Kerr said he plans to rehab at the team facility during the offseason. “James is a really willing athlete. Willing, patient. He wants to be here,” Kerr said. “He wants to get better however he can, so we’ll give him every opportunity to improve — both on the floor once he’s ready to get out there, but also obviously in the training room and in the weight room.”
- The team isn’t sure if Eric Paschall will return before the end of the regular season, tweets Kendra Andrews of NBC Sports Bay Area. Recovering from a hip flexor strain, Paschall has been able to scrimmage but has barely practiced and is considered day to day.
- This year probably presents the best chance for Golden State to earn maximum value from the Timberwolves‘ first-round pick, says Connor Letourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle. Minnesota’s selection is top-three protected in 2021 and unprotected in 2022, but the Wolves have shown signs of improvement and may not be among the league’s worst teams next season. Minnesota is tied for second in our current Reverse Standings, but could move “down” several spots with a strong finish. If the Wolves have the league’s second- or third-worst record, the Warriors will have nearly a 60% chance of seeing the pick convey this year.
Marty has said that every single player on the Warriors doesn’t deserve to be on an NBA roster. Steph Curry first season’s weren’t the Kumbaya moment that Marty dreams of.
Seen several potential deals for GSW. Siakam, Gordon Hayward. Idk which comes to fruition but nothing matters if Klay misses another year. Draymond is also so bad it’s a shame. 20M for less than a role player. He should be showing that hes worth 20m not just trying when it’s some dumb avengers trophy.
I think it’s 25, but to me he’s worth it. He plays point forward so Steph doesn’t have the burden of point guard AND leading scorer. Plus on the defensive end he guards the best player in crunch time and orchestrates the defense to make the whole team better. There’s no rings without Draymond Green let me tell you that with confidence.
Obviously Dray was a huge part of their 5-year run when he helped them to win 3 rings, but there’s simply no way he’s worth anything close to $25M/year right now. He is basically a point forward allowing Steph to play his true position (SG). But Green’s no longer the shutdown defender that he used to be during his prime years.
Green is the best defensive player in the NBA this season, what a ridiculously out of touch comment. He’s also the best passer. GSW has the best 2 PGs in the game and they play C and SG.
Rudy Gobert, Ben Simmons, Myles Turner, Giannis, and Embiid are the top 5 candidates for Defensive Player of the Year right now.
Who’s ridiculously out of touch? Quit being such a pathetic homer.
So WallyWood is becoming the new Marty McRae. I wish guys would grow up. Seriously. I don’t understand your weird predictions. I don’t understand why you guys can’t enjoy the competition.
Vince, why spend your time complaining about the two of them? Their act sometimes gets tiresome, but at least it differs occasionally. Yours is almost exclusively complaining about one or both of them. Either let it go or mute them.
Mute button doesn’t work as well as you think it does. They get a bit bleak, dismissive, and self righteous if you point out things contrary to their point of view.
Pot meet kettle. You’re both black.
Green is tied with Simmons and a few others for 5th in DWS behind Gobert, etc. so dismissing the claim out of hand seems premature.
Wrong:/
Gotta look at how Golden State was without Draymond. Worst defense in basketball, yet WITH him, they’re too 10.
Gotta also realize Wiggins isn’t a plus defender without Draymond yelling at him the whole game telling him where to be. Do you watch games with the volume off?
Rudy Gobert, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid DPOY. I’ll give ya Curry but Lillard, Harden hell even Jokic are all better playmakers than Green.
Draymond can guard 1-5 and yes he should be in consideration for DPOY. If you watch the games he is a legit defender and he might be the best passing big man other then Jokic and Lebrun in the game. He is worth every penny of that 25 million.
Straight up untrue. Steph’s handle >>> Kyrie’s, but one mindblowing fact (to those who actually have been watching every Steph and Dray game this season) at a time. Jokic, Harden and Dame are absolutely not better playmakers or better passers than Draymond this season.
Green’s been averaging a 9.5 +/- since the last time he missed a game in late March, thats 19 straight games of elite basketball down the stretch for a team that desperately needed them – clutch on 100 for Dray this season too. Jokic averaging 3.1 over his last 19, Dame avg 5.3 over his last 19. Harden (before injury) was averaging 2.8. Get all the way out of here with Draymond isn’t as good as those 3 at playmaking.
He’s BY FAR the best combination of defense/playmaking in basketball and it’s not close. His 9.5+/- since March 1st highlights his elite 2-way contributions especially when basketball starts to matter more and more, where guys like Jokic(3.1), Dame(5.3)and Harden(2.8) fell off, or are so limited on defense it washes out their offensive contributions. Sure it looks fun to watch them play, but Draymond doesn’t fall off a cliff the moment the other team has the ball.
And, if those guys are so good, why they break any of Wilt’s records then? Draymond joined JOKIC AND WILT for the 15 assists in a game, but then proceeded to have three more games just like it, producing 86 assists in 7 games, doing something nobody not named Wilt Chamberlain has ever done.
Still think that there’s even 3 more better playmakers than Green? That’s literally the only reason Draymond’s still a 2-way player.
You don’t see players sag off him because despite shooting 30% from 3, he averages 9 assists a game-UNLIKE Steph, Jokic, OR Dame. Man, if you swap Draymond and Jokic, the Nuggets are still fine. I wonder what Draymond would do if he had Murray, Millsap, Porter Jr, Gordon, Bol Bol/JaVale(any legitimate big)and Will Barton. Sure he had a 33yo Iggy, 33yo Livingston, prime Steph, KD, and Klay, and he made it to the mountain top 3 times. I’m just saying he’d do the exact same if he had Jokic’s cast, yet Kokic hasn’t made it past the 2nd round?
Take a look at the top 50 Assist leaders this season bro:
1. Russ(763),
2. CP3(622),
3. Jokic(599),
4. Trae(594),
5. Luka(567),
6. DRAYMOND(558),
7. Dame(505), 8. Harden(475), 9. Ja(465), 10. TJ McConnell(456), 11. Rubio(433), 12. Randle(427), 13. DeRozan(422), 14. Fox(417), 15. Sabonis(415) 16. Ben Simmons(401), 17. Middleton(370), 18. Jimmy Butler(369), 19. Steph Curry/DeJounte Murray(363),21. Giannis/Jrue(357), 23. Dennis Schroeder(351), 24. LeBron(350), 25. Adebayo(346), 26. Lowry(338), 27. Brogdon/Garland(329), 29. Van Vleet/White(328), 31. Kyrie(324), 32. Ingles(318), 33. Lonzo(316), 34. LaMelo(313), 35. Haliburton(309), 36. Conley(305), 37. Ingram(296), 38. Graham(295), 39. Rozier(293), 40. Thaddeus Young(291), 41. Booker(289), 42. LaVine(282), 43. PG13(280), 44. Delon Wright(278), 45. Mitchell(277), 46. Tatum(276), 47. Wall(275), 48. Smart(273), 49. Satoransky(271), 50. Kawhi/Vucevic(269).
300 more assists than guys like Kawhi, Booker, Tatum, and 200 more than guys like Kyrie, Lonzo, Brogdon, Bam, Lowry, LeBron, Giannis, etc.
So Marty McRae can’t show up. So, why would the Warriors trade Klay Thompson for Gordon Hayward. Klay Thompson is still better than Gordon Hayward. Is philly ballers Marty McRae new alias.
Dude are you on crack? I never said they would trade Klay.
You have seen a bunch a potential deals for Klay Thompson. Why would the Warriors ever trade Klay Thompson for Gordon Hayward? Is this a Marty McRae type of trade. I don’t understand how you believe Gordon Hayward would be better than Klay Thompson.
Again, reading comprehension would do wonders for you.
I have a different idea on how Draymond could be super valuable to the W’s over the next three years. How about … He takes over the role Iguadala did from 2015 on. The W’s need more rebounding and if they are lucky enough to draft or sign a strong power forward, Dray could come off the bench Iggy style … 20-25 minutes, very strong D, an occasional three, and still the best passer on the team by far.
Green can’t shoot anymore he can’t do what Iggy did.
He scored 15 on 5 of 8 last night. He can’t shoot, or he -wont- shoot? Perhaps maybe because he plays on the same team as Steph Curry, and shooting too much on that team when you are not Steph or Klay, is a pretty bad move no matter who you are?
They need someone that’s 27 or under, if they plan to trade Wiseman. Some one who’s 27 will be 31 when Steph is 37:Wiseman is 24(entering his prime). Ideally, someone like Brandon Ingram, 23, would be best as he’d be 27 in 4 years-capable of still being a prime player for years and not having Dubs fans/front office kicking themselves for trading a 7fter who might be a 25/10 guy by this time.
Wiseman’s timeline ad Steph Curry’s timelines aren’t the same unless Wiseman suddenly turns into 25o Chris Bosh tomorrow. Siakam is 27 and might be the oldest guy they should look at. 31 when Steph’s 37/Wiseman’s 24 and should be at the tail end of his prime while still a contributing player.
If they can get Lonzo and Ingram it’d be great, or even just Lonzo while keeping Wiseman, as Lonzo can fill the point of attack defender that used belong to Iggy/pre injury Klay, while being a better passer/3pt shooter than Iggy. At 23, he can still grow alongside Wiseman and perhaps be the lead ball handler for Hal the plays almost immediately allowing Steph to run off screens and elevator plays like he did with Livingston and Iggy.
Ben Simmons or Joel Embiid would also be nice, however Ben might be the best fit as a defensive beast+offer the passing that Golden State wants from their bigs, AND THEN SOME. Especially if Simmons continues his growth as a scorer, he could excel in Golden State. Even as Steph and Klay age into rich man’s Jason Terry/JJ Redick and Kyle Korver, Simmons could be a Giannis-lite w/o much imagination
JT-A’s journey reminds me of Jamario Moon playing everywhere before finally making the nba. Hard work… dedication…. and ABILITY is a great combination!
What Marty McRae fails to understand there a ton of Golden State Warriors fans before. They drafted Steph Curry.
Yep I remember when our point guard was Winston Garland and we were happy about it. I think the point guards when I became a fan was Lester Conner and sleepy Floyd. Our Center for the first Nelson years was Larry Smith in the playoffs. 6-8 against the Spurs and he was awesome. Then he left because he didn’t want to be the center in Nelson’s system. So yeah a lot of Warrior fans before Steph Curry arrived.
Oh my God. You guys are keep saying stupid things. Larry Smith is a great Power Forward. Larry Smith fled Golden state before Don Nelson became coach. So, I know have this desire to defend Marty McRae. Any real Warriors fan will know Marty is a douchebag. Why are you defending Marty
link to basketball-reference.com
Sleepy Floyd was awesome, he came to Houston in the Joe Barely Cares/Sampson trade. Sleepy still holds the NBA postseason record for most points scored in a quarter (29), against the Lakers in 1987.
Really, I give credit to Eric Sleepy Floyd for having a career in the NBA. He wasn’t the kind of player you would establish an ESPN dynasty upon.
That’s funny. You, like Marty McRae thing that Eric Sleepy Floyd is the type of player you build a dynasty around
Actually Robert Parrish was the starting center. He was traded away before Don Nelson arrived. The starting front could have been Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, and Larry Smith. The Warriors could have had Purvis Short and Bernard King at shooting guard. John Lucas would have been the point guard. I know Marty McRae hates this reality. If you are a real Warriors fan, you need to appreciate what you are given.
Vince, the W’s would not have had McHale. The Celtics traded the first pick to the W’s for Parrish and the third pick, which they used to draft McHale. Had the trade not been made, the Celts would have used the first pick on McHale, not JB Carroll. The Jazz would probably have drafted Carroll and the W’s drafted the guard Griffith, I think his name was (Utah took him with the second pick).
Obviously one of the worst trades in Warrior history.
And dare I say it … What a HUGE mistake the W’s made in drafting Purvis Short …The next pick? Celtics draft …Larry Bird … Oh well, all resulted in the time line of getting Steph!!!
By the way , the reason Bird fell a bit in the draft instead of being the top pick, was because he announced that he was returning to college for a FIFTH YEAR!!!! (oh yeah, times were different) which meant that any team that drafted him would have to sign him before the next draft, or he’d go back into the draft, and some teams weren’t willing to take a chance on being able to sign him between the end of the next college season and the next draft. Auerbach, who ran the Celts was simply smarter and gutsier than the other GMs. Even hometown INDIANA passed on the biggest star in college basketball to take a stiff center.GEEZ!!!!!
Marty’s not commenting, but he is living rent free in your head.
He sure is. Should Marty be worried about his stalker? Probably.
Marty McRae has a stalker? Marty McRae is stalking Steph Curry. Marty McRae has said that if the Golden State Warriors don’t win the NBA Championship it is because of Steve Kerr. Marty McRae has said that Steph Curry can single handedly win any Championship. Marty McRae can’t accept that the Warriors might not win the Championship this season. So what, you regroup.
Get well Wiseman …. if Warriors have a shot next yr. Wiseman will play a major role. It’s going to be interesting to see what Warriors do. Will they trade Wiggins. Will they sign Obrue. Will they get that top three pick. They have a shot to do really well next yr. Klay and Wiseman need to be healthy. Get healthy Warriors. It’ll make the West more fun.
I get angry with guys like Marty McRae. I get angry because they expect instant results. Wiseman is probably 2 seasons away from making a huge impact. Give the guy some time.
Al, the best pick they can get (from the Minny pick anyway) is fourth, as it’s top three protected.
Yes got it backwards, thanks. Top 5 is excellent pick. Even top 10 could be a future all star. Warriors have a lot at play next yr.
Marty McRae, WallyWorld, and KnickerbockerAl keep saying they know what is going on in with the Warriors management. Marty McRae keeps saying he can couch a team better than Steve Kerr. WallyWorld believes that Eric Sleepy Floyd is better than Steph Curry. Al is a New Yorker. Teams don’t change over night.
Where’s that mute button? Seriously.
I’m not a Warriors fan. I’m an NBA fan and respect success and real talent. An honest or even intelligent opinion. Is not a claim. For some of us we can just see the game better than most. Keep trying you might get there.
So for all of you donkeys, nothing I said involved trading Klay. All of the trades I’ve seen involve Wiseman, Wolves pick, and or or Wiggins. So please take your valium.
As you said, the people who read know what you said.., or wrote. You make sense to me :)
I don’t understand why @phillyballers said Klay would miss another year after this one? Where does it say he’s missing 3 years in a row?
I mean yeah, GSW should bring in a superstar even on a one year deal, because Klay will take most of the season to get back to “normal” Klay, if not until 2023. I don’t understand the “cant get a G, where would Klay play?!?!” narrative, there’s plenty of playing time available for all next season.
Will Kerr be as good next season with a healthy roster but without asst. coach Mike Brown?
Somebody finally going to hire Mike Brown? Who’s going to give him his third or forth shot? Have you heard something? I’m hoping he stays.
He’ll be a HC next season
Kerr has been absolutely awful this season, from doing absolutely nothing on-court, literally running Steph’s playing time on a stopwatch (not a game-watch, he’s literally not even watching the games, just the most checked-out coach ever) to finally listening to all the idiot joe fans out there who have been telling him to run more PNRs for the last 5 years. And the second he started running them, they started winning and playing cohesive basketball again (albeit with moron players on the roster like Bazemore, Oubre, Mannion and Wanamaker). He said “we’re not chasing wins this year” and “give me 20-50 games to figure this out”, then goes golfing. Look buddy, just retire, you don’t have to keep doing this if you don’t want to, and everything Steve Kerr has said and done this year points and him simply not wanting to do this job anymore.
KD left because Kerr refused to run PNR’s, and KD has one of the best basketball IQs of all time, that’s how dumb Kerr is. Curry deserves better. Draymond could coach rings around Kerr. Lets make him Player-Coach, replacing Kerr, and watch the superstars and high IQ players like KD flock back to GSW.
Curry is having a great yr, no. He really is a superstar. But not MVP. MVP has to take in winning also. Stats that really matter, that make your team win. That’s why I see Jokic winning. I’d say Jokic, Embiid , Curry are top 3. I doubt Warriors win play in game. But they are hanging tough now.
Yes you’re probably right and isn’t it a shame Jamal Murray went down this year. It looked like Denver was ready to take that next step.
Gary, your thoughts please onthe following. 1) right now gsw sits with a pretty solid 8 spot in West with 4 games remaining all at home and will keep their own first rounder. 2) the only way that pick goes lottery is if they lose the first and second playin games. 3) twolves next 2 games are vs pistons and magic and with wins could move out of worst 3 in standings. That would slightly decrease their chance of getting top 3 in lottery 4) if gsw does not get twolves pick this year, of course they get twolves unprotected first rounder next year 5)I’m concerned twolves, if they keep this years first, might be pretty good next year and as a result that first rounder will be not as high next year so… 6) if twolves finish out of bottom 3, even though they could end up with let’s say 7th pick, I’d rather get that than a worse pick next year. Comments? Skute, feel free as well
Claude, I’m of the belief that it doesn’t matter where you pick, you just have to draft well. There’s so many times we see that the 18th pick has a much better career than the 9th pick, but of course, having a top five pick THIS year would be amazing because the top five guys are studs.
But it looks like the Warriors will pick what, 17 or so? Then with the Minnesota pick it would be nice to get number four or five, but you know what.. one guy who is 18 years old is not going to bring your team to the promised land. You have to get your roster situated with current players and a free agent or two. Yes Jalen Suggs would be nice but you can’t hang your head if Minnesota keeps the 2021 top-three pick.
So the Warriors are going to have to get it done with health and the current roster and adding KEY free agent or two plus refurbish the bench. If the wolves keep the pick this year and then finish 500 next year, so be it. I’d rather have Kawhi Leonard at 15 than Jimmer Fredette at 12 or Frank Kaminsky at 9 or Ricky Rubio at 5. You know what I’m getting at…
You’re probably right on this thought Claude…I’d rather have number 7 this year than whatever next year.
Of course I still think the Warriors would rather TRADE all this young stuff for One key stud guy. The only thing is that one key stud guy is not available. Gianis off the board, Bradley Beal never was on the board, Jimmy Butler off the board, Porzingis forget it he gets hurt, Ben Simmons I would take him in a heartbeat. James Harden I would have taken him also. I think that’s the preferred path of this Warriors group. Win now and worry about the future when it comes. Steph Curry can still win a game 7 playoff game or game 4 Finals game by himself so you’ve got to take advantage of this time right here.
Claude what are your thoughts.. (or anyone else of course)?
Gary, I just don’t like the idea of counting on picks (18-19 year olds) when the core gets older. A while back you convinced me gsw should try to trade for a stud. If twolves keep this years first, then gsw will have 2 firsts next year. 3 firsts combined for 2 drafts. Good draft capital for a trade. So I’m with you regarding trading. But Wiggins should stay, he’s been very good
Andrew Wiggins is VERY much on the trade block. They’ve made him look the best he possibly can with this system and putting him in the best position to succeed. If you watch though, Wiggins disappoints about every fourth play. It’s like, why did he do that and why can’t he make a 12-foot jump shot and I mean how can he just let his guy get by him like that?
Andrew Wiggins is NOT someone you want to keep on a championship team. With that salary you have to play him but wow, he’s so disappointing at times. The Warriors will dump him at the first chance to bring in another 25 million-dollar guy who is actually a championship player. Throw in the draft picks and you’ve got a deal.
But as I said, the question is, who’s available? Who’s the guy to go get at a high salary that matches Wiggins for the trade-off, and give up any combination of our pick this year, our pick next year, the Minnesota pick, James Wiseman, and any of the young guys like Pashcal Etc. If that guy becomes available the Warriors will grab him !!
How much did Westbrook win in his triple double mvp year?
A historical yr or just a great statistical yr is also in the running for MVP. Just saying winning adds a lot to claim. There were yrs I thought Ewing should of won it. Instead MJ n Barkley got it.
Whatever possible way there is of coming out on the short end of the conveyance of the top three protected pick to the Warriors the Timberpuppies will find it!! This team has been cursed since it’s 1989 inception !!!!
Dont worry…A-ROD will save you!
HAHAHAHAHA
