Giannis Antetokounmpo left Game Four of the Bucks‘ series with the Hawks in the third quarter after injuring his left knee. He did not return to the game.
The initial diagnosis is a hyperextended knee, according to the Bucks, but more tests are likely to come to determine the extent of the injury and a potential return timeline.
Antetokounmpo had to be carried off the court by his brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo before walking the rest of the way himself. He initially returned to the bench before heading back to the locker room and being ruled out for the rest of the game. GM Jon Horst headed to the tunnel as well, tweets Ben Golliver of the Washington Post.
Hawks guard Trae Young missed Game Four altogether due to a foot injury, so neither Atlanta nor Milwaukee is assured of having its star player available for Game Five on Thursday. The Hawks’ win on Tuesday has evened the series at two games apiece.
Even without Trae the Hawks still won by 22 points in game 4. There’s no way the Bucks can win this series if Giannis is out for the next 2-3 games. Not a chance.
theres always a chance. Middleton and Holiday need to step up. bad performance from both tonight
Wallywood is right
Without both Young and Giannis
There is no way Bucks will beat Hawks next 2-3 games
Hawks have all kinds of weapons.
Both Holiday and Middleton are overrated.
Nawww, both Holiday and Middleton are still underrated.
I agree, most fans underrate how good both Middleton and Holiday are. There’s a reason both are well respected by their peers. Players know how good other players are from competing against them. Most fans only see box scores for the most part which never tells the entire story/
Middleton scores 20 pts in one quarter just two days ago. Yet he’s overrated.
Haha the top comments sure aged well :)
How these dudes not going to show up against a Trae-less Hawks team? Blown out. Middleton and Jrue should be ashamed. Almost as bad as Ben and Tobi laying eggs against the Hawks. After all the hoopla the ego stroking by Giannis on ESPN for Khris…
None of these clown teams left are real champions. Title being determined by who’s healthy and not who’s the better team.
Um, Phoenix and LAC fully healthy are legit teams. Don’t be stupid.
Clippers yes. But KAwhi is out and they won’t beat the suns
Sad Lakers fan?
NBA title is usually decided by attrition via injuries otherwise Curry, Thompson and Green would have 5 rings
Yup. There are fair critiques against Giannis. But he’s still giving you 30-11-5 consistently in the playoffs. He’s doing his part
Bottom line: he’s not built to create in the last 4-5 mins of games, very much like Shaq in his prime. He needs a guy to deliver the knockout blow, a la Kobe on those Lakers teams, which is why they mortgaged multiple picks for Jrue.
Yet he and Middleton have been spotty at best. I really thought after they dodged a bullet in Brooklyn they’d rally and that’d be it.
People talk about getting rid of Bud. But to me they need to get rid of Middleton too. And Jrue. Giannis needs a better closer.
Like I said, the other Hawks want to show they can win without him; non-Traes will fight among themselves to replace him.
Bucks have done that too without Giannis, but not that I have seen recently. The guy is an iron man… He does not want to see his team get by without him.
But don’t expect a collapse. This is not the year for that. Teams come back; then the other one does; backnforth.
If GA doesn’t have a ligament tear, he’s truly a freak.
I lost faith in the Bucks in awhile ago. The trophy was theirs for the taking. They’re apparently debating whether they want it.
The trophy is no where near there’s for the taking. The Hawks are good. The Suns and Clippers are really good. Maybe you misread the room because Lebron was injured.
Jbutte, Milwaukee was built to win and with the Nets and Sixers pushed aside the path was very clear if they wanted it. They had the personnel, the roster, the Stars. They hired the big-name coach. It WAS theirs for the taking but they seem like they can’t get it done.
It isn’t at this point. But that’s because they’ve failed as a team on some basic fronts. Talent-wise, the only team left that should have been a real impediment to them lost one of its two superstars (Clips). Absent an outlier event, this year will constitute GA’s last best chance to win a trophy. No immediacy, no focus.
Hawks are a lot more than just Trae. If y’all can’t see that then stay out the comments cause you don’t know basketball
Ok hero.
Crap. The two most exciting players in the East hurt. That’s lousy. Young will likely be fine for game 5 tho. This series deserves both players healthy. Hawks have all the momentum right now. Fun conference finals.
OMG …. without Young. See what I mean about Bucks. How does this coach still have a job. Thought Holiday would toughen them up. Bucks just don’t get it. Now they have another EXCUSE … no Giannis
To be fair if one of the top 3 players in the league is hurt and he’s on your team that’s a pretty fair excuse.
Tacocat, an injury is NOT an excuse. You have to have the troops behind your #1 guy to support any type of loss of your leader.
Um.., look at the Hawks LOL.
I agree but . Bucks have excuses last three yrs man. I love Giannis but he’s not a Killer like MJ, Kobe or Bron. Or even KD. Bucks got lucky with Nets, their injuries. This coach just is not a Winner. Does not get the importance of taking it. This should not even be a series to me.
Holiday annoys me tbh. Dude is always playing a little too nonchalant for my liking.
Also: Has he been better than Bogdonavic this playoffs? I’d say no, prior to Bogdo getting hurt. Maybe the Bucks screwed up the wrong deal last summer.
Surfer69, I see what you’re saying and I see it in Holiday. He’s a little too cool. But he doesn’t annoy me because I guess I know his background. Seems to be very solid citizen and active in the community and all that. Really a great dude so I don’t mind that he doesn’t get riled up and excited and that sort of thing.
But I get you because plenty of guys annoy me and sometimes I don’t know the reason why. It could be Chris Paul’s little general stroll to the foul line after a crap call. Or I don’t know what it is about Devin Booker that annoys me because he’s a Tremendous player but there’s something and I can’t Pin It Down. I even love that he gave the “Suns in four” guy tickets and a signed memorabilia piece. Seems like a good guy but he annoys me.
I hear you, and it’s funny because I’ve heard those things about Jrue, so I occasionally feel a little bad being annoyed by him because he does seem like a good guy, ha.
But like you said it’s something intangible that sometimes irrationally irks you about a guy I guess.
Now spotlight on Jrue, and chicken pepper Lou
That’s Lemon Pepper Lou
I got it right later… too much fiddling… ‘lemon’ even works better
Jrue is a good not great player. Mike Conley level. Kyle Lowry if you take away that one post season. Never pictured him as a closer, but he’s just absent offensively in a bunch of games. Middleton has had his playoff woes too, kinda like a DeRozan.
This team should get past ATL. Same as Philly. Refs have def helped the Hawks this entire playoff from NYK to PHl to MIL. But their guys are stepping up while guys you believe to be superior talents are no shows every other game.
I’ll give Jrue a little credit here. He’s been good in the ATL series, averaging 20 ppg and 9.5 apg on 46/39/63
But he was terrible against Brooklyn, a terrible defensive team, averaging 15 ppg and 6.3 apg on 36/26/72
Middleton has routinely disappeared in the playoffs and this year is no different. He’s shooting 42% from the floor and 22% from 3 against Atlanta. That’s just not good enough.
Giannis, by comparison, even after missing half of game 4 is averaging 26.5/10/5.5 on 61% shooting in only 34 mpg
These nba coaches are so hilariously bad, its mind boggling. When we talk about teams, and where they are as a contender, or who might beat who, we do it looking at their depth, and how they clean adjust against different teams, and whatever opponent. When you make no lineup adjustments, and feed into the matchup, that obviously changes the whole potential outcome. I thought it was obvious Thanasis should play in this series, as he would also be needed against Phoenix, but we havent seen him. I would have also said Giannis should play in more lineups at the 5, similar to what I said about Simmons for Philly, but we havent seen that either. Outside of Thanasis, I also think Diakite and/or Nwora should see time in this series, but at this point, it feels moot, with Giannis getting hurt. I still think they have enough to win this series, but they have to stop making it easy on Atlanta
That being said, I did take Atlanta in their late regular season game Trae Young didnt play lol
IDKY you think it’s normative or expected that little-used wings become prominent. Not that it’s a bad idea.
Coaches tighten up for playoffs.
Just mentioned your name on the Lindsay vs Snyder article… One could say it came down to wings… somebody to hustle into the corners for those cornershooting Clippers. I hope they don’t win and I sort of predicted they would. The league should paint away the 3pt value for those shots.
I am kind of hoping everyone gets injured except for Teague and Snell, and they go one on one for all the marbles.
Here’s hoping for a Jeff Teague vs Reggie Jackson NBA Finals duel. With Zubac vs Brook Lopez as the undercard.
Thursdaythurz-day
Non-Traes vs Non-Ginos
Do YOU support the Rondo trade
Winner winner
Lemon pepper chicken dinner
A new otta-auntie-OttetakOOOOmpo shall RISE!
It’s wild to think this season is going to be viewed as more tainted than last season.
Gut wrenching. Hate this so much. Love Giannis. Yeah they were playing badly but that’s because they have a 20 grade coach. They were going to win it all.
Suns in 5
Man they are in game 6, so…?????
I think you’re wrong.
In shock over the injury but also in shock at how poorly the Bucks played before GA was injured. I guess they thought ATL would just roll over. Coaches and player leaders dictate the team attitude and Bucks clearly do not have that killer instinct.
Dude this is third yr. They are not ready for anyone. Bucks got no heart. They are soft. If I was Giannis I would shove it down their throat like MJ. If I’m their coach. I make sure they are killers. This team is soft. KD by Himself almost beat them Lol. By himself
