8:33pm: Lakers team doctors have medically cleared Davis ahead of the team’s must-win Game 6 against the Suns this evening, tweets Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
7:54pm: Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has clarified that Davis wants to play through his groin strain if given the green light by team doctors ahead of Game 6, tweets Kyle Goon of the Orange County Register.
7:37pm: All-Star Lakers big man Anthony Davis hopes to return to the floor for LA ahead of the club’s must-win Game 6 in its first-round playoff series tonight against the Suns, per John Gambardo of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. Kyle Goon of the Orange County Register cautions (via Twitter) that Davis’ return has yet to be medically cleared by a team doctor.
Davis hopes to start tonight should he complete his warm-ups without any issue, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Davis did not play in Game 5 after suffering a groin strain in Game 4. The Lakers lost both contests, and are now down 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.
Power forward Markieff Morris started in Davis’s stead for Game 5, a 115-85 Lakers loss. Across 10 minutes of game action, Morris notched four points, a rebound and an assist. Morris, a valuable floor-spacing reserve during L.A.’s title run last season, will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
In comments made on Wednesday, Davis indicated that his groin injury was in part a result of a hyperextended knee he incurred in Game 3. “[Team doctors] told me everything is connected and that’s exactly what happened,” Davis said. “The groin happened because of the tightness in the knee from the hyperextension.”
This doesn’t guarantee us anything and if our role players are a no show like they were in game 5 not even having AD in the lineup is going to get us over the top
Indeed , timidity by the shooters will net in a loss no matter what – Im surprised they haven’t given McLemore a shot earlier in rotations to try and circumvent this problem. Miss or make they cant stop firing
What this does is it sets up an excuse for when they lose, so they can say “well AD wanted to play but the doctors held him out…if only he came in we would have won”.
Is this series over? Tune in tonight and find out.
Injuries ended this season period
Excuse? I mean, any team is going to be less than full strength without a player of AD’s caliber so it’s not really an excuse it’s just a fact
This game and the last show how LeBron is nothing close to what he used to be in his prime without AD. This is such an embarrassment.
No bro, the Rockets are an embarrassment…this is the Lakers falling flat after a difficult season…I’m more than confident they’ll be ready to roll next season with a whole offseason to rest and heal
There does seem to be a realm of setting some soft pillows down {in case} of a fall here.
Yesteryear is gone tho, and this is closer to status quo than not, so we must take it for what it is….Nothing , either he suits up or he doesn’t.
Its the other Laker players in uniform that need to do the soul searching right now, they looked like the cowardly bully who couldn’t take his first punch to the face
Schroder is so disappointing in game 5.If there’s a player in the lakers roster that could help, its him!!
To be clear I’m putting dough on Lakers tonight
Not much I hope. It’s not like LeBron can do it all himself anymore.
Nice of Booker to show up. When your star only plays well with a lead, I worry.
Lakers are gonna win. Can you imagine the noise if bron gets knocked out in first round with this loaded of a team
This team is loaded on paper when healthy but there’s obviously something missing with the chemistry. Hopefully they can get back to that early season chemistry they had before AD and Bron got hurt
You’re not fooling anyone, self hating Laker fan. Either LeBron loses and you rip him or if they win you say it was staged.
Loaded team? How many better-than-average players do they have other than LeBron and AD? It’s two hurt/aging stars and a bunch of mediocre role players.
scoreboard
This didn’t age well.
You seem to have been wrong…about everything. Who knew?
Is it just my market or is every commercial on TNT narrated by a British person?
Does AD return if Lakers up 3-2 probably not.
AD is going to sue the Lakers if he’s out all next season.
He should sue Adam Silver
Um, he gets paid his full salary regardless of whether he plays or not. I don’t believe any court in the country would take that lawsuit seriously. In fact, I am sure that a large percentage of people would love to not work for an entire year while still making their full salary.
so what, the doctors are wrong? lol.
5 minutes. Totally called it in the Lakers Notes comments from 7:30 yesterday.
Although my prediction of the Suns winning by 20 seems really low right now.
LOL still got the ring last year while your Rockets had to blow it up.
The Rockets gave Harden almost 10 years to try and make it work.
If they hold onto their top-4 pick in the draft they can get someone to replace him and team up with Wood, Wall, Kevin Porter, Gordon, Jae’Sean Tate, KJ Martin, and hopefully Olynyk if/when he re-signs.
We’re loaded for the future, that’s more than the Lakers can say.
Thanks a lot. I just fell off the couch laughing at that group being “loaded”.
That’s a load alright…not with talent but a load for sure
@wallywood
You’re either an exceptional troll or very very misguided.
The Rockets are certainly more loaded than the Lakers, I can’t wait to see them ahead of LA in the standings next season. Enlightened.
This has nothing to do with the Lakers. Half the guys you listed would be G-Leaguers on virtually any other team.
He’s an exceptional troll.
Wallywood brags about the easiest of predictions. What else can he do, since the Rox sent new standards for embarrassment, and he sets himself up as main Laker-hater… and they crashed.
Lakers will lose tonight mostly because their best players are injured and/or their super short off season. Not a coincidence that the Heat got bounced even quicker.
Other teams with significant injuries that went deep into playoffs last season are doing just fine.
Well name them… it is not so hard… LAL, DEN, MIA, BOS… yeah not so great.
Well those teams sure didn’t go as far, but look at it Celtics, Lakers, Heat all out already 3 of the top 4 teams last year. Nuggets took 6 to beat the Blazers in short games. So the 3 of the 4 deep run teams are out and the other took 6 in the first round. I would say there is something to the notion that the ultra short of season was a problem.
I love seeing LA lose.
Sounds like you have a lot of exciting things going on in your life for something like that to give you joy lol
I like seeing the other great series. Luca is incredible.
Luka is showing he has real dog in him and he’s treating the clippers like pups…
We no longer get to listen to all the analysts feigning interest in the Lakers just because they’re so popular with the fans. Now teams that belong in the playoffs, like Utah, can get the attention they deserve.
Love it or hate it, it’s what happened and it’s better for the NBA that the Lakers are out. It’s time to showcase new teams see new arenas with banners and such. Lebron is almost 37 it’s time to pivot to the future, Hello Luka.
Man. Both LA teams could be one and done. Who’s LeBron kicking off the team in the off-season?
Pelinka, for not getting Lowry at TD
So Chris Paul is already lining up his contract with the team he helped eliminate ?
How would that movement happen?
He would literally have to take the haircut of the century to join the Lakers. Lakers just don’t have Chris Paul money this off-season, they have like Cam Payne money.
Better hit the weight room and get them gains up. Until then ice up guy, ice up!
