Lakers star Anthony Davis has been officially ruled out for Game 5 of the team’s first-round series against the Suns, Mark Medina of USA Today tweets. Markieff Morris will start in his place.
Davis suffered a left groin strain in Game 4 on Sunday and was considered doubtful. He did come out onto the court on two occasions to test the injury but the club’s medical staff ultimately decided he wasn’t ready to go.
The Lakers and Suns are tied at 2-2 in their first-round series, and Davis averaged 34.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the team’s two wins in Game 2 and 3.
Morris has only played 12 minutes in the series and hasn’t made a field goal. He averaged 5.9 PPG and 3.0 RPG in 21 postseason games, including two starts, for the Lakers during their championship run last season.
How shocking. Is he going to be listed as questionable and miss game 6 as well?
Lakers kinda wasted an MVP-ish season of LBJ. They made moves and on their face you say Schroeder Gasol Drummond and Harrell are names I know so they should be better, but none are real perimeter threats. Gasol shot 41% but only shoots 2 3s a game and is a shell.
I’m sure they’ll revamp next year but looking pretty roast now. S&T and trade whatever picks they have left to get actual players.
Yeah last year’s team just seemed to make more sense than this roster…not a knock on the players, just doesn’t seem to be the right mix
Who were they supposed to get? They traded all their picks they could trade in the AD deal. Schroeder is the best talent they could have gotten with what they had to trade. The bottom line is when you have Lebron and AD you need both playing or you don’t win a title.
I thought they should’ve brought back Dwight. He was a beast during last year’s run and seemed to fit in nicely with LBJ and AD. The expression “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is super cliche but definitely applies here in my opinion
They still ended up allocating 25M to non-shooters. I agree below, they should have brought back Dwight on the min deal. He thought it was a done deal, then it wasn’t.
Evan Fournier could have been had at the deadline for Schroder. Much better shooter, cost nothing for the Celtics.
Myles Turner has been available all year – now he got injured, but at the deadline he wasn’t. Better than Harrell, better rim protector, shooter. Not sure what Indy was asking for though.
But LeBron’s game is penetrate and kick out to a shooter.
A GM cannot predict an injury. Its just that timing was really, really bad.
66-36 at halftime. Looks like LeBron can’t do it all by himself anymore.
Those 6-1 odds on the Lakers winning it all was a bad bet to make. Too bad.
He never did it by himself. He joined Wade and Bosh and had Davis join him.
2016 Cavs happened. Spare me the nonsense about how Kyrie and glass Love is a superteam.
2016 was not about LeBron winning the title as much as it was about GS losing the title. Plus, those Cavs were a super team. Kyrie and Love were basically 3 out of 4 overall #1 picks. Kyrie was #1 in 2011 and Love was picked up for the #1 picks in 13 and 14. And Love wasn’t glass THEN, he was a friggin monster.
LeBron has come back from a 3-2 deficit four times. It’s not over until the other team wins the 4th game.
Amk1920 with another ghastly take. Lakers are setting it up for there come back in 6/7 on lebrons back, adding to his goatness. Silver and rich Paul would never let lebron exit in first round
If this was all rigged why did it take them 8 years to give LeBron a ring genius?
No player does it by himself. In your attempt to hate you actually complimented Lebron by suggesting there is an assumption that he could do it by himself.
Lakers expectedly lose setting up for them to win 2 straight and add to the false prophets “legacy” YAWN. So predictable
And if it doesn’t happen, you will find a different script. It is easy to be Tatso. in the end, you can always say you just wanted to agitate.

Tars knows the NBA is fake and comes on here and comments constantly about the NBA.
If he is wrong, he isn’t smart. If he is right, he is weird.
I’m a savant. As soon as Daniel house was thrown out for protocols and clippers choked it confirmed who was winning the title. Over the last 40 years 3 of lebrons 4 rings ranked in the near bottom of difficulty. Keep in mind he also has had some of the most loaded teams in history. Then you begin to realize how pedestrian lebrons legacy truly is.
Idk what’s more ridiculous thinking Daniel House would have made the Rockets beat the Lakers while Harden and Westbrook were mediocre or that the Clippers choking hurts LeBrons legacy.
What do you mean how pedestrian his legacy is…you said it was all fake, there is no legacy. For anyone.
It’s all fake.
The series is not over but the way Lebron looked last night sitting end of the bench and then leaving 5 min before end of the game makes it seems he gave up . That is just disgusting from your superstar to do. Should take notes from
Chris Paul on how to be a leader . Hopefully Chris Paul is not injured and can play next game
The series is over!!! The Lakers are out! LeBron James will not win another championship ring. Anthony Davis is made out of glass. Why exactly did Rob Pelinka sign Montrez Harrell???? The long and slow Laker decline begins. It was a good run. It is now over!!!
@Very Barry… you do realize that any G-League team is better than the clips, right?
LAL had last year & this year a better run than LAC will have in the next 100 years or they had in the last 50 years, right?
Hey as a Laker fan Im SOOOOOOOOO glad I gave up that game for the Por/Den 4th qrter and Double OT’s!….maybe LBJ just wanted to catch a glimpse of a Real game?
For real tho, Id be pretty pissed if I was him too, all his teammates played scared tonight time after time early and then the game became a joke…… They cant pass up wide open shots, the offense is a mess to begin with, have to take what’s given make or miss…Don’t go down Timid , your the underdog Now step up and play free….. I could tell this game was over 6 minutes into the 1st qrter by confidence levels..
KCP is lost Schroeder has the heart of the Tin Man , Caruso is not a primary shooter, Wes/Morris old and slow , Drummy is well Drummy .
Off topic but…
pretty sure Lakers offered Schroder 84mil over 4 years and he turned them down.
Today in game 5 of the playoffs tied 2-2, he went 0-9 for 0 points, 1 assist and 4 rebounds in 26 minutes.
Lakers have really struggled this year with injuries to AD and Bron both in the regular season and playoffs. They went from champions to play in tournament.
Looking ahead to the offseason, who do you think they go after? In FA you have DeMar DeRozan? Kyle Lowry? Spencer Dinwiddie? DRose? Or maybe there’s a trade out there…
Firstly I think LeBron has to beg for Kyle Lowry to take a cheap deal and push him over the top.
Lowry plays good defence, can shoot it, can run and offence, and he’s experainced and knows what it takes for the playoffs.
After that, Personally I’d love to see Bron go get one of his young bros in DeJounte Murray for Kyle Kuzma.
In another odd move I’d sign and trade Dennis Schroder for Brook Lopez.
Then lastly I’d like to see Bron throw Melo a 1 year deal.
Follow that all up with a couple good FA signings like Robin Lopez and Glen Robinson.
1. Lowry. Murray
2. KCP. Mathews
3. Bron. Melo. Robinson
4. AD. Morris
5. B Lopez. Harrell. R Lopez
This would be the Lakers coming for revenge team. Title favourites, Bron reaches out for help with another mate and key FA signing in Lowry. Murray would be a great move for the future, Melo teaming up with his mate Bron finally. Lopez returning to LA in a stories move but he turns out to be a key player. Lopez brothers teaming up again, possibly LeBrons last chance at a ring, maybe final season??
Ok Jeannie we found your burner account.
Did LJ say final season? He likes BB. Why would Spurs trade Murray for Kuzma?
They wouldn’t. But this guy never lets logic get in the way of one of his lengthy ideas.
Last season when Lakers were reportedly shopping Kuzma, Spurs were very keen on him. I could see the Lakers having to give up a second round pick or two to sweeten the deal but it could happen
90 percent of what you said literally isn’t possible. And Murray for Kuzma? What would SA be smoking to do that trade?
Why would Lowry take a cheap deal just to play with Lebron? Lowry will want a big time long term deal since he is more closer to end of his career. Those are the type of trades that show the person is hoping for a miracle.
So many stars nearing retirement opt for ring chasing over cashing in. Lowry has made heaps of money in his career, win new in the Raptors hall of fame one day and it would make sense that he just wants a couple easier seasons with LeBron and the chance of winning a ring
He already has a ring why wouldn’t he just chase more money?
Lakers wasted Montrez Harrell. Why sign the guy if you aren’t gonna use him? He literally went from 6th man to DNP.
LeBron must not like playing with him or Vogel doesn’t know how to coach him.
