Nets big man Blake Griffin has been happy, healthy and productive since signing with the team in March, as NetsDaily.com details.
Griffin, an 11-year veteran, has averaged 6.8 points and 5.8 rebounds in 24.1 MPG through the team’s first eight playoff games, starting at center in every contest. He’s shot an impressive 52.5% from the floor and 37.5% from deep during those outings.
“Every time I talk to Blake, one of the things that always comes up is how much fun he’s having, playing in meaningful games and making an impact,” said Jeff Capel, Griffin’s college coach.
Griffin is seeking his first NBA championship, earning a starting role on a contending team at 32 years old. The Nets are currently tied with the Bucks 2-2 in the second round of the postseason.
There’s more from the Atlantic Division tonight:
- A. Sherrod Blakely of the Boston Sports Journal ponders whether Celtics fans will be ready to “trust the process” now that Brad Stevens is the team’s lead decision-maker. Boston dealt with numerous injury and COVID-19 issues this season, never getting a fair chance at developing chemistry and competing. The team finished with an underwhelming 36-36 record and lost to the Nets 4-1 in the first round.
- Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston explores the factors that would go into a potential Robert Williams extension this offseason. Williams is eligible for a rookie scale extension after becoming the Celtics‘ top big man in the final stages of the season. He averaged 8.0 points and 6.9 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game this year.
- The Sixers sent Danny Green home to Philadelphia to get treatment on his right calf strain, but hope to get him back around the team as quickly as possible due to his veteran leadership, head coach Doc Rivers said on Sunday (Twitter link via Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.com). Of course, the team would love to welcome a healthy Green back on the court too, but he’s expected to miss at least two or three more weeks due to his calf injury.
Celtics have been going in wrong direction. Ever since they drafted Tatum. And let Horford go. And Stevens has been at center of this. Don’t look good in Celtic land.
They didn’t let Horford go… They offered him a contract, but he took more years and money to go to Philly… Honestly, it looks like the C’s dodged a bullet considering he was traded and then barely played for OKC.
Everyone wanted them to get rid of Horford, that was a good thing.
No one wants Horford with his contract, the Celtics would be REALLY in trouble if they still had his contract on the books.
Any more in trouble than they are with Kenna’s contract?
*kemba
Nice goalpost moving. Very impressive. So because the Celtics made a bad decision on Kemba they also should have made a bad decision on Horford? Derp.
Curtisrowe is right. Also, Kemba is better than Horford right now, Robert Williams is up and coming. And Tatum is the best in his class
Griffin has been up and down. Looked crummy today. Suppose it’s easy to look “productive” when expectations are low.
Celtics will be top 4 seed next year if they trade Walker and 2 future Firsts for two quality starters
Cavaliers will be top 4 next seed if they trade Kevin Love for the entire 76ers roster.
The biggest thing the C’s need to be better next yr is for either Langford or Nesmith can become a Crawford type 6th man they don’t have the cap space for anything big and whatever they get back for Walker won’t be a big upgrade because more than likely that player is on the same path as him this team is going to be screwed for the next few yrs thanks to doofus Danny instead of trading any of their numerous draft picks or letting Al, Kyrie and let’s be real Hayward go for nothing well also showing players they don’t give two ships what that player does for you when they traded IT4
Boston was in the ECF last year. Danny blew this season. The Nets look like they are going to be out with brittle Kyrie. Kemba will bounce back everybody wrote off Chris Paul and Reggie Jackson. Kemba is a winner and he will prove it next year wherever he plays. Boston will be a top 4 team next year as Langford, Neesmitth Pritchard both Williams mature.
Top 4 team in the east, maybe, definitely not in the entire NBA.
The Celtics were like 5 wins away from 4th and they had the most missed games for Covid. Right?
The next Celtic HC will likely have a bigger role for Rbt Williams, but it will still be Stevens making the rookie-scale decision.
I can believe he’s a bit of a hassle for a coach behind the scenes, and he turned out to be only 6-8, but take a look at those stats. Too many fouls but centers are expected to pick up drivers.
Gotta like the nickname duo, Time Lord AND Boo Butt.
6-8 heavy rookies Tillman MEM and Stewart DET may be starting a trend… heavy rather than tall centers. They make a few 3s.
