The Cavaliers will not just limit their interview and workout list for the No. 3 pick to USC’s Evan Mobley, the G League Ignite’s Jalen Green and Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. Those players are widely considered the next three prospects beyond Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham, who is only expected to visit Detroit
Duke’s Jalen Johnson, who is ranked No. 9 by ESPN, was scheduled to meet with the Cavaliers on Friday. The Cavs are also expected to look at the G League Ignite’s Jonathan Kuminga (rated No. 5) and Florida State’s Scottie Barnes (No. 6). The latter met with Cleveland’s brass on Thursday, Fedor adds.
We have more from the Central Division:
- Chase Buford is leaving his post as the Wisconsin Herd’s head coach in order to become the head coach of the Sydney Kings in Australia’s NBL, according to a team press release. “We are excited for Chase to pursue this opportunity with one of the best clubs in Australia,” said Herd GM Dave Dean. Buford, 32, led the Bucks’ G League team to a league-best 33-10 record before the 2019/20 season was suspended due to the pandemic.
- Along with mulling what to do with the top pick, the Pistons must decide how high they’re willing to go on restricted free agent Hamidou Diallo, Bobby Marks of ESPN (Insider link) writes. Diallo is projected to command somewhere in the neighborhood of the mid-level exception, which the Pistons could easily match. Marks also explores the team’s other pending decisions and its cap situation.
- With his long track record and a four-year contract, Rick Carlisle will command respect in the Pacers’ locker room, J. Michael of the Indianapolis Star (subscription required) writes.
Jalen Johnson is going to disappoint someone…
He’s definitely gonna disappoint the fans of his opponents & people like you who are gonna be rooting for him to fail
Not THAT Jalen Johnson
Cavs could trade down
Would love to see Cade go to a team that’s actually interesting like Houston. Pistons are so irrelevant and boring.
Lol blunt take but I can’t disagree
Pistons have more talent than Houston. And an actual plan on building a team. Cade can play with Hayes in backcourt. Both are really combo guards. Can play both spots. Plus that’s a Big backcourt. Something I’d like to see.
Pistons have more talent cause last year they did well in the draft and picked up DSJ fo you guys for nothing. Houston has just started it’s rebuild and have found some bits that look exciting like KPJ.
As for Hayes and Cade together I don’t like the fit. Mainly due to both players liking the ball in their hands and neither being great three point shooters. Both have the size and ability to play as combo guards but i just think between them will be a lack of shooting and both being kinda ineffective off the ball. That’s just my perspective.
Whereas on the flip side I’d love to see Cade a big point play with a shooter like KPJ. That would be really exciting and they would develop an understand between each other and grow together as the future of the side.
Cade shot 40% from 3pt. Pistons are going to be a young fun team to watch. Four #1 picks and Grant on the floor, great way to start a rebuild.
Yeah but one can play while other sits. To me I see Cade more as a wing. So I think it can work. A real baller is always improving their gm. Let’s not judge 19 yr olds.
Lol foolish mortal!
A organization that has won 3 titles is irrelevant? Must watch only sportcenter highlights smh
Rick Carlisle again as Indy coach is the most inspiring hire in recent years. How did ownership allow this to happen. Indy fans can’t be happy to see that slow moving half court offense that got him fired in the first place. Indy will remain in mediocrity until he’s fired again.
Should be uninspiring…g*dd*m spellcheck.
You get a mulligan
What do people expect out of spellcheck anyway? The program is not designed to be a complete proofreader. It is just designed to catch obvious misspellings that are not other actual words. Inspiring and uninspiring are both actual words. How can you expect a computer program to figure out which one you meant?
I put question marks on Cavs and Kings GMs
Why didn’t they trade away Sexton and Bagley last Year?
They have more trade value
Pacers with the 13th pick will add a nice player. They have a solid starting 5. With Carlisle they will be back as contenders imo. They will be a top team in East. Fight for top 4. Cavs will get either Green or Suggs. Rockets not passing on Mobley. Cavs would be FOOLS to pass on Green. And plenty stories about Sexton leaving. Wise move, not a team guy. It seems, Bye.
You have one paragraph with about 20 bullet points that only vaguely go together. Who are you? The reincarnation of Larry King? That is just seriously hard to read.
Yeah it’s hard to understand when you don’t know Ball. Pacers and outlook. You need that only. Cavs pick and draft top picks. Is that hard to gauge for you. Draft is the key for all. Do you know who Green is. Do you know about Sexton woes. It’s picks and quick hits. Nothing deep here.
I feel good that the Cavs will not mess up the #3 pick, even if they trade for the #5+#8. (Could be Kuminga+Barnes.) Better ask Garland about Suggs though… and playing the 2.
Garland is more of a natural point guard than Sexton is and Suggs is better off the ball anyway. I think Garland and Suggs could work.
I agree, they almost can’t go wrong. I think they should take Green if he falls to them. Otherwise, it’s Mobley (have to evaluate the fit with Allen) or Suggs (his value – and its massive – is as a PG, so it does affect Garland). Can’t go wrong with #5 and #8 either.
They are not passing on Green. He could be best talent in draft. Trading Sexton is just icing on the cake. Garland and Green are good for me. Allen, Love, Okoro. They will move Love this yr , I think anyway. Would love to get Okoro for Toppin. Even throw in Quickly. Would a Cavs fan do that.
Sounds great, getting Toppin+Quickly for Okoro, but then I’m a Dayton fan. Toppin needs confidence, can still come, but he looks a beat too slow so far. He was a center as a frosh, must adjust.
