The right calf strain that Sixers starting swingman Danny Green suffered in the first half of Philadelphia’s Game 3 victory over the Hawks will keep him sidelined for 2-3 weeks, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Sixers, the top seed in the Eastern Conference, will thus be without Green’s services for the rest of their series against the scrappy Hawks.
Should the Sixers advance, Green may be available at some point during the Eastern Conference Finals. The 76ers are ahead of the Hawks 2-1 in their best-of-seven second-round series. The Nets currently lead the Bucks 2-1 on the other side of the bracket.
Shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz started the second half of Game 3 Friday, and appears to be the choice of Philadelphia head coach Doc Rivers to start in Green’s stead while the two-time reigning champ (with the Lakers in 2020 and the Raptors in 2019) recuperates.
Green averaged 4.5 PPG, 6.0 APG, 2.5 RPG and 2.0 SPG during the first two games of the series, for which he was fully healthy. He was available for just 3:45 of Game 3 action in Atlanta before leaving for the team’s locker room with the injury.
His defense and 3-point shooting will be sorely missed.
Most definitely tell that to LBJ. Not sure why he was let go by LAL.
He had a down year there. Stats and playtime spoke to that
D Green didn’t do much last year with the Lakers. His game is in the twilight stage . I don’t miss him in the slightest
Hindsight 20/20, they coulda used that expiring at the trade deadline wiser than Schroder ; but at the time Rob was praised by all for the move
It didn’t work, it often time doesn’t; Q now is, What (if any) contract do they tender Dennis in the coming months
Clearly you haven’t been watching any Sixers playoff games. DG has been a liability on both sides of the ball.
Yes Trae is definitely going to miss Danny Green’s defense lol
He faded away in the ECF and finals in 2019 too.
Yes he did but Danny will always be regarded as a champion for Raptor fans. Even though he nearly cost us a victory in the dying seconds of game 6 finals.
Same thing with spurs fans. Was a huge part of our championship team in 2014. And he was a big reason we almost won the championship the year prior, if it weren’t for Ray Allen’s shot there’s a solid chance he would’ve won finals mvp that year bc he was lights out that series. Very underrated player, people like to point to bad games and call him a bad player when that really isn’t fair. Hope the 76ers can get him back for the finals.
He’s been pretty poor recently anyways. We will walk through Atlanta without him but I could see is missing his defence against the bucks or Nets.
Regular season he was 9.5-4-2 shooting 41-40-78
In his last 5 games he was 5-22 from deep, 10/30 from the floor
I almost feel the spark from the fill in guys will be a net positive in the end. It doesnt have to be the same guy every night but I bet those mins get filled nicely for Doc
They didn’t walk through Atlanta without him tonight.
The Hawks outscored Philly 54-38 in the second half.
Means Hill, Thybulle, Milton, Maxey get more mins. Someone has to step up. I’d use all to guard Young.
Don’t forget Korkmaz too. Between Korkmaz Thybulle Milton and Hill that’s a mix of 4 dudes than can either shoot well, defend well or do both
Damn. This is a big deal. Wouldnt mind seeing Isaiah Joe get some run again, but Doc Rivers doesnt know how to use an NBA rotation, so I doubt it
It is a big deal, just like when the Bucks lost DiVincenzo. I remember one of their fans here acting like it was no biggie when he got hurt a while back, it’s the exact same thing here with Green. Losing him hurts the Sixers chances of reaching the ECF, let alone winning them. Atlanta won’t be a cakewalk for Philly without Green in their starting lineup.
Sixers not beating nets either way with or without Divensenzo…
Good thing “Divensenzo” doesn’t play for the Sixers then
No time for rookie development now. Joe would just add to the confusion of 76r talents. Rivers does not seem wing-oriented or even organized-oriented… He seeks alpha-dogs.
Philly is messy with all of Rivers’ substitutions. Sometimes it seems he just puts a guy up top and says, Do what you want for one quarter. Then it is somebody else next quarter. In Korkmaz’s turn “at bat”, then you get a wing-based offense.
Simmons is often getting overlooked and he is not playing with joy shall we say.
If Rivers was supposed to fix it all up, he has not, and I suspect Simmons will be shopped.
Isaiah Joe played well earlier in the season, and defends, and can knock down shots. He also can put the ball on the floor and facilitate a bit. I think he would help fill some of what they lost woth Danny Green, if not necessarily in this series, if they’re still missing Danny Green in the next one
Respectfully, I don’t think this will be a big deal in the end, maybe even a low-key boon for Philly
