The Bucks have announced (via Twitter) that starting shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo underwent successful left ankle surgery for a torn ligament today in Wisconsin.
DiVincenzo suffered the season-ending ailment during the third game of the Bucks’ first-round playoff series sweep of the Heat. The Bucks are missing his offense thus far in their second-round matchup with the Nets. The team has been outscored by 47 points across its two losses in Brooklyn.
The third-year swingman out of Villanova had been enjoying his best season as a pro prior to the injury, his first as a full-time starter. For the 2020/21 regular season, he averaged 10.4 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 3.1 APG, and 1.1 SPG across 66 games with Milwaukee, with shooting percentages of .420/.379/.718.
The Bucks have the ability to extend DiVincenzo during the summer, ahead of the last year of his rookie deal in 2021/22.
Who would have thought that Divincenzo is the straw that stirs the drink for the Bucks (after the Big Guy of course). Coach Bud is a disaster!
I’d say they’re missing his defense more than his offense.
Getting burned by Mike James was beyond lame.
He’s a lot like PJ Tucker, who’s still a reliable defender, but what little offense he used to supply in the past has become nearly non-existent this season.
If you can’t be bothered to watch the games, can’t you at least look at the basketball reference link before posting your nonsense?
Is Giannis too nice to be the guy who holds his teammates accountable? You have to be an a-hole to get on your teammates but he does not seem to have that edge.
He is not the straw. But he’s sorely missed, as I thought he’d be. Bucks’ problem is, that like a lot of teams with multiple max guys, they don’t have real (replacement) depth. Only rotational depth (when healthy).
Holiday is a guy who’s best when he can play both on and off the ball. DiV was the only guy on the roster that could facilitate that. Augustine was signed to give them another option to play with Holiday and back him up, but he didn’t perform well and was used as a matching contract to get Tucker. So, now without DiV, Holiday has to be the sole facilitating guard, and that limits the degree to which he can impact the game. Teague doesn’t even appear up to being his backup at this point.
