Joel Embiid will be listed as doubtful for Game 5 of the Sixers’ first-round series against the Wizards on Wednesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets. He had an MRI on his right knee on Tuesday, and is expected to be evaluated further prior to the game.
The fact that Embiid won’t be listed as out could be construed as a good sign that at least the injury isn’t serious. Embiid played 11 minutes on Monday before retreating to the locker room after taking a hard fall.
Washington remained alive in the series by winning Game 4 and the Wizards have a legitimate chance to rally back from a 3-0 deficit if Embiid can’t play or is limited the rest of the series. According to the latest injury report from the Wizards (Twitter link), Russell Westbrook will play in Game 5 after originally being listed as questionable with a right ankle sprain.
Dwight Howard and Mike Scott would likely pick up the bulk of Embiid’s minutes if he can’t play, though coach Doc Rivers could opt for smaller lineups.
Embiid underwent surgery on his left knee in 2017 and has dealt with soreness in that knee at times. He averaged 29.3 PPG in Philadelphia’s three victories in the series.
Well the Sixers are at home and maybe they can put the Wizards out of their misery without Embiid
Ben Simmons and Superstar should never be mentioned in the same sentence again. Philly is absolutely Embiid’s team. JoJo is the franchise!! Ben Simmons is a Draymond Green clone running the point when he should be starting at PF and backing up C.
Everything you said boarders closer to the truth than not but the messaging still doesn’t hit as you intended
Takeway – Ben Simmons is an awesome NBA player that 30 NBA teams would Love Love Love to have
Only a Sixers fan would do so. Simmons averages less than 16 PPG, barely 14 this year. That’s not even close to being a superstar. He can’t shoot either, so he is indeed a PF who happens to get a lot of assists, just like Draymond.
believe me, no one in Philly thinks that either
Although I hope not. I cannot help but to think Embids career will be a short one definately he won’t be able to maintain this MVP Level play for much longer. He needs significant time off for injuries each year. Basketball is very hard on big bodies!! Perfect example why it os so much of a risk to choose bigs over superstar potential wings in the draft.
Mobley will be great. But I would not take him over Cade or Green for this very reason.
That’s a fair point on Mobley. I think he is the most hit or miss of the top 4 guys in the draft. He might be an incredible player someday, but it will take him a few years to get there, and of course the right coaching. Cade or either Jalen should be safer picks, playing in the G-League could make Green the most NBA-ready as well. But I don’t see anyone passing on Cade at #1.
Mobley’s strength is being relatively immune to these kinds of too-big-for-a-human breakdowns. An immediate 4.
“The Wizards have a legitimate chance to rally back from a 3-0 deficit if Embiid can’t play.” Lol, no they don’t
Yes they do. Philli has been average all year without Embiid.
You act like Washington isn’t an average to below average team at full strength lol
You were saying?
I will say this. If they lose the next panic will set in. If they lose game 6. They will be too nervous to win game7.
