The Magic and Wizards have both requested permission to talk with Mavericks assistant Jamahl Mosley about their head coaching vacancies, tweets Marc Stein of The New York Times.
A report earlier today indicated that Mosley is likely to leave Dallas after being passed over when the team hired hired Jason Kidd as its new head coach. Mosley, who has been a part of Dallas’ coaching staff since 2014 and has a strong relationship with Luka Doncic, didn’t receive the consideration for the job that he expected.
The 43-year-old has a strong reputation around the league and has been a candidate for other head coaching openings in the past. He began his post-playing career working in player development with the Nuggets in 2005 and was named an assistant coach two years later. He left for Cleveland in 2010 and spent four years there before coming to Dallas.
Mosley has been in charge of the Mavericks’ defensive schemes since 2018 and served as head coach of their Summer League team from 2017-19.
Wizards should blow it up just like the Magic did. Trade Beal, Westbrick and start all over again. They messed up by drafting Avidja, he was all over the place jacking up shots, could barely switch defensively. I don’t know what they saw in him! All they had to do is get Halliburton and try to move Hachimura & Westbrick to offload his massive contract. I’d rather tank and get some draft picks at this point than exit from first round!
Slow down bud, Deni is only 20 years old. Give the young fella a chance, damn lol.
Too late! He broke his leg. Now add that to his mediocre skills and it’s wrap! Next!!!
Why would they pick Haliburton? Future knowledge? They’re wizards so they should consult their crystal ball?
Your advice is small-minded.
Steve! What’s up. I’m a HUGE Nets’ fan monitoring what’s going on in WAS. Seems like you’re a passionate fan, so I have some thoughts for you.
1) Avdija looks like a promising prospect that simply needs more time to figure out the game. He’s a bit slow on defense, so he’ll need to figure out how to use his height to his advantage. He’s feisty style of play will help him match up against most Forwards and Guards. I will refrain from calling him a scoring facilitator, he can do some of both. Therefore, if you’re trading Beal and Westbrook, the Wizards will need a very competent PG to run the offense and a younger version of Bradley Beal.
2) Rui Hachimura is a very solid role-player you should keep. He’s a good shooter who loves his jumper just a little too much. If y’all trade Westbrook, that should give Rui more opportunities to showcase his offense in the mid-range. Plus, with Thomas Bryant and Avdija hopefully ready to start your season, your front-court is solidified with three young starters.
3) Giving Davis Bertans that contract looks bad today. I’m sure there’s a team willing to trade for an overpaid Stretch-4 (MIN, UTAH, BOS, possibly my Nets). He’s best coming off the bench on your team behind Rui at this point. He’s overpaid to play that role.
4) With the assets you get back for your higher paid players, your rebuild will be quick. Who do you hope gets your head coaching job?
5) Do you expect Beal to request a trade before the start of free agency, before the trade deadline, or do you expect him to play out his season and decide next summer where he will play?
A Net’s fan!! I’ll be damned!
I didn’t see anything promising from Avdija tbh. He averaged 6 points per game and 31% from 3PT. It’s not like he came out college, he was playing professional so people had high expectations for him. I still think that Halliburton was the perfect pick for DC especially if you thinking about moving Westbrick in future.
I agree on Bertrans contract, he disappointed especially during playoff. It will be hard to get rid of his contract hence why Spurs didn’t want gamble on him.
I don’t see Beal staying. Wizards should trade him for some picks while he’s in his prime. He was huffing and puffing a lot during certain games which is annoyed the hell out of me. If you don’t like being there, just have the guts to request a trade. If you make 26 millions a year, you should be professional and lead by the example.
Back to the Net’s topic, Y’all should trade Kyrie at this point, get some depth on bench and a decent big to be able to compete. He’s bringing to much drama to the team!
That’s right, a Nets’ fan. There’s a good number of us around. Most withdraw from basketball talk – I like to engage.
Tyrese Haliburton would’ve been great for y’all. I have friends who are sadly knix fans who get irritated thinking about how they passed on him. Bertans has some value. I can see a trade in the middle of the season, if not sooner.
The Nets’ Big-3 are here to stay. We’re taking a gamble given Kyrie’s history of availability during the Playoffs. Harden is normally an iron man and KD proved he’s still the man. I honestly believe God humbled this team.
With that said (written), expect us to keep Kyrie and trade Joe Harris for a mobile Stretch-5 (Myles Turner I hope). I can’t call it with DeAndre. Perhaps we get him to drop a crazy amount of weight to increase his agility and get Harden on the same regimen. We can probably steal Bobby Portis away from MIL or get a blue collar guy for cheap in free agency.
The only thing I’m concerned with is Spencer Dinwiddie’s situation. He was our Kyrie insurance and now he’s too expensive to keep. If we can trade Joe AND DeAndre for a guy like Turner, perhaps we can keep Spencer as our 6th Man. Right now, my best guess is a sign-and-trade to the Lakers for Kuzma and possibly Montrezl Harrell
Good s**t! I like your optimism even though I don’t share it. It’s gonna be hard for y’all to move Joe Harris, his stocks really dropped big time. Net’s will have to attach a pick just to move him. I hope that Dinwidde go get his shine on somewhere else. He’s a legit starting PG and would he unfair for him to come off the bench. I can see Eastern teams improve a lot next year so the Nets big 3 should be on top of their game and play a full season together. Time will tell.
You’re the man. I hope your Wizards get their ducks in a row sooner than later
Hold up cuh!! I ain’t no Wizards fan. I’m a Hawks fan. ATL for life!
. My bad. I predict the Hawks will beat the Bucks in 6. That damn referee screwed Trae. I hope y’all face the Suns in the Finals
They won the Westbrick trade though! Good luck Rockets with that Wall contract smh
How exactly? The Wizards are stuck with a player who has completely destroyed their team chemistry and only cares about triple-doubles (which he had more of than his team had wins, as I predicted). Russ<Simmons.
While the Rockets received a first round pick, plus Wall who has off-the-charts intangibles. And after being brought along slowly last season, he will play a lot more games in 2022 providing veteran leadership for the team.
Washington will regret that trade for years, far more than Houston will.
Remains to be seen! I don’t see Wall playing more than 40 games a season.
Ayton playing like a a first pick! Take some notes Rudy Dodobert!!
Ok, I’m not a Westbrook fan, but anyone who watched this year’s Wizards and thought that he destroyed the team’s chemistry is nuts.
I agree that you don’t want to continually be first round playoff fodder, but they wouldn’t have even been that had they not made the deal. The team hadn’t made the playoffs since the ‘17-‘18 season, and had they missed again, would Beal had started getting loud about wanting out? You still may want to deal him and blow it up, but you get fifty cents on the dollar if he goes to the media saying he’s unhappy.
With Bryant coming back and Gafford and Rau Devi’s growth plus now way Bertrans is as bad. I think the wiz could supeise. Get Kenny Atkinson as coach I think Washington could do well. IMO
No Westbrook fan but the man changed my take after watching his effort over a full season. My Sixers feared him.
Hes a beast man. My dude and always loves beal.
Westbrick, under his current deal, still has negative value, but nothing approaching the negative value that Wall still has under his. Different universes. That was less clear when the swap was made, but it’s quite clear now. The guy plays his butt off, and it lifted the Wiz to the playoffs.
