David Fizdale turned down more money from the Pacers to be one of Rick Carlisle’s lead assistants in order to take a similar job with the Lakers, according to Marc Spears of The Undefeated (Twitter link). Indiana’s interest in Fizdale was previously reported. Former Warriors assistant coach Jarron Collins is being considered for an assistant coaching position with the Pacers, Spears adds.
We have more on the Pacers;
- President of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard said the hiring of Carlisle is a signal that the franchise is intent on winning a title, according to Michael Marot of The Associated Press. “We’re in a win-now mode, we’re trying to win and so we identified some traits or characteristics we wanted in a coach,” Pritchard said. “Those characteristics were first of all multiyear experience, we really wanted to have someone who had a championship pedigree and that can be challenging to find all of them in one person. What happened in this year’s search is Rick became available.”
- Myles Turner‘s name has often been tossed into trade rumors but Carlisle believes he can get more out of the frontcourt duo of Domantas Sabonis and Turner, Wheat Hotchkiss of Pacers.com writes. “When my teams have played them over the last few years, we’ve always felt like it was a physical beating that we were taking with them, both defensively and offensively,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of making it work.”
- The team is bringing in Brandon Boston Jr. (Kentucky), Matt Coleman III (Texas), EJ Onu (Shawnee State), Austin Reaves (Oklahoma), Jaden Springer (Tennessee) and Moses Wright (Georgia Tech) for pre-draft workouts on Thursday, according to a team press release. Springer, a point guard, is ranked No. 27 on ESPN’s Best Available list. Shooting guards Boston (No. 41) and Reaves (No. 44) are also ranked in the Top 50.
Maybe Fizdale understands that there’s more room for advancement in LA.
It’s only a matter of time before LeBron decides to move on from Frank Vogel.
Lakers just won the title last yr. and Vogel will get an extension before the season starts. I doubt he’s going anywhere, he’ll be the lakers coach at least 2 more seasons.
Lakers could go rebuild in 2022. They can hire a $2m coach next summer
They don’t need to pay championship coach $50 million contract (like Doc Rivers)
Highly unlikely. Vogel won at the first opportunity and the second year wasn’t his fault – with the injuries and loss of Rondo, etc. I’d say he did well.
Wally, LeBron is 36. He doesn’t have a whole lot of time, and Vogel just won a title.
WallyWorld with his LeBron/Lakers hate right on que lol
I bet Wally mumbles “Lebron”, in his sleep.
Jarron Collins needs to be the next coach for the wizards because he has two great stars there and knows how to win a title
Gary/x%, did you read Monte Poole’s article suggesting a trade for Myles Turner and TJ Warren. He said #7 and Oubre. I love that idea but wouldn’t it take more from gsw? What do you think of that? I like those 2
7 oubre and Wiseman and I think it gets done. Warriors are buyers, they pay the premium. The “milk”, if you will.
Lil, the article indicated that they’d be able to keep Wiseman, but I think you’re probably more correct
That’s a fair swap, the #7 pick is huge this year. Might as well be the #1 pick from last year.
The Pacers should get Dan Burke back on the bench. He was there with Carlisle 20 years ago. The defense was missing last year and he would help.
Pacers have got themselves a good coach but I wouldn’t be surprised if they also made a move or two in FA/trades.
Got some nice pieces and decent contracts, they could go after a has been star and picks, or could go after a all star level player, or possibly even a young guy on the come up.
Maybe throw some bits at Brandon Ingram, could Colin Sexton possibly be a fit long term? Maybe Ben Simmons could be a fit with Turners ability to shoot, their defence would be tough.
Sexton and LeVert would be a great young backcourt. Alternatively Simmons and Turner would be good for defence with Warren and LeVert being the go to scorers.
Not sure fans will like maybe
Phi: McCollum, Brogdan
Port: Sabonis, Maxey
Indy: Simmons, Hill, Thybulle
Idk???
Why on earth would indy do this???
Why do people think Sexton is good? His numbers are abysmal
18PER, 37+%3pt, 24ppg, IDK what you’re talking about. Max speed, never hurt or slowed. He fixes whatever lags, except defense. But you said numbers and “any good”, not defense and allstar. He wasn’t even in the proposal. Oops.
If Cavs get Mobley, there’s a reduced reason to trade Sexton, but I think Rockets will take him, since Wood is undersized for a 5. Suggs or Green will need a spot.
Trade value is way off: Take Brogdan out the deal. For Philly to swing a 3 way deal in which they get CJM, with Simmons to Indy and Sabonis to POR — POR would need to give up something else to Indy.
Has Indy expressed interest in Simmons? Because they are one of the most unlikely landing spots.
Pacers have a good squad. They don’t have the top heavy talent to go to the finals or a player that would will them to the finals. Not yet at least.
I would not blow up the roster. I’d try to upgrade where I could.
The one problem with this squad: injuries.
Maybe you’re swapping out Brogdon and Warren for an upgrade at guard. Start of a Bradley Beal or Dame Lillard trade?
FYI Oubre is not an upgrade yall need to lay off the weed. Oubre is Michael Beasely 2.0 but they keep giving him starter playing time.
How generous, you would not blow it up.
It it likely this team will run with mostly the same group but with a new coach. Kind of like usual. They have quality at all positions. I know, boring or something. Draft.net has them taking Devion Mitchell.
I can see Indy flipping a lot of its roster to max out talent+money. Turner for Wiggins matches up on total money owed, but Indy would be trading a wing or two of their own to fit in Wiggs.
Turner+Looney as GSW’s main bigs would be great. GSW needs a rim protector like yesterday and Wiseman can go be a project for a rebuilding team, Steph has to win now. With Myles, they’d be almost unstoppable if that area of their already elite defense got even more tightened up.
Not sure about Turner because it sound like pacer fans didn’t think he was all that great. Maybe he is like Oubre has a few great games but most of the time a non-factor.
That trade is not close to likely. Go back to GSW page.
TBH he doesnt have to be a star, he has to protect the rim, block shots and play solid D as a big man. We need that more than wings Oubre-types because we got run over last season by any team who went big and gave them pretty much uncontested buckets all night due to not having anyone over 6’7″.
Indy would have no interest in Wiggins. The player, and even more certainly the contract. Money is closer to double vs matching up, but that’s almost beside the point.
