There aren’t a whole lot of trade scenarios that would work for the Wizards to acquire Ben Simmons, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic. They wouldn’t swap Bradley Beal for the Sixers guard unless Beal suddenly wants out. Dealing Russell Westbrook would have involve a third team, since he doesn’t seem like a good fit with the Sixers’ roster. The Wizards could also piece together other salaries with packages featuring Davis Bertans or Rui Hachimura but Philadelphia would more likely seek top-level impact players for Simmons.
We have more from the Southeast Division:
- The Wizards have scheduled a predraft workout with Isaiah Todd, according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington. Todd played on the G League Ignite team, averaging 12.3 PPG and 4.9 RPG in 15 games. He’s currently ranked No. 52 overall and No. 11 among power forward on ESPN’s Best Available list.
- The Magic‘s best chance of moving up in the draft could be the Rockets’ pick at No. 2, Josh Robbins of The Athletic speculates. Orlando holds the No. 5 and No. 8 picks and might entice the Rockets to trade down if the Magic are willing to take on Eric Gordon‘s contract.
- Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman is in no rush to hire a new head coach, Roy Parry of the Orlando Sentinel writes. It has been nearly three weeks since the team announced it had parted ways with Steve Clifford.

Can Ben Simmons fix Ben Simmons?
I don’t think so.
76ers contact Warriors in regard to Simmons trade?
It has to bring up a third team.
Shoot I do Ben for Russ ….. Sixers win ring next yr.
And Russ can place that ring next to all of the others he’s won. Oh, wait.
I like Russ, but he ain’t winning a championship, at least not with the Sixers. His style of play is no longer conducive to winning a championship unless he’s the third or fourth option. And I don’t see him playing third fiddle to Tobias Harris.
Even MJ played third and fourth to Pippen, Kerr, Rodman, Tony. Winning is about only winning. You replace Ben with Russ this yr. OK this yr. No Way they lose to Hawks. Rockets not about winning, Wiz not about winning. IKC afte KD left not about winning. Why do all you haters put that on Russ. Russ can avg 25 n 10 against Hawks easy
When did Michael play second or third fiddle to Steve Kerr? Passing to him for an open 3 doesn’t count.
Russ, sadly, can no longer stay healthy enough. He tweaks something, plays through, which is noble, but his play suffers for weeks on end for it. Plus, I mean, if Philly is trading Simmons don’t they want someone just a little better from 3? Russ isn’t going to improve their spacing much.
If it was 2017 Russ I’m with you. Russ + Embiid could contend. 2022 Russ seems doubtful.
Yea hard pass on any Wizards deal not involving Beal. Bertans contract is terrible, Ryan Anderson 2.0.
Ben Simmons is a salary dump until he can restore his offensive value. 4 years, $140m. 19 points in 3 playoff games. It’s that simple.
I’d rather keep him than trade him for a stiff like Bertans.
It’s a valid point that Simmons’ stock could continue to plummet next year. It’s possible.
But if you’re getting Bertans as a center piece the Process is officially done. You might as well trade Embiid at that point too.
So in that case I’d rather roll the dice and see if maybe I can get more for him mid season.
The Process was done when they fired Hinkie. The way the team is currently constructed they won’t win anything. Have to keep Simmons to hope he can restore some value. Scottie Pippen’s assessment of the difference between Simmons and Giannis was actually on point. Simmons doesn’t take part in the offense because he doesn’t want to embarrass himself at the line. It’s probably more of a psychological issue at this point…even though he clearly shoots with the wrong hand. Harris is overpaid, so doesn’t have much value. Simmons can’t be traded. Embiid won’t be traded…so I don’t even know where they go from here. Not in a terrible spot, but definitely not in a great one, either.
The only rosters where Westbrook is a good fit are on other bad teams that don’t care about winning and will allow him to stuff his stat sheet every single game.
You ought to know lol ….. you said same thing about Chris for two yrs. You think we forget.
He might be a fit next to Luka. Mavs are looking for a bigger PG to take the load off of Luka.
Are you going to bash Wall when he leaves your disfunctional team or will you change your name again and act like he doesn’t exist like with Chris Paul?
He’ll change his name for FITH time. He’s just an instigator. Doesn’t believe half the stuff he spouts.
Is it Wallys fault or Fertitta/Stone? Y’all act like being a Rockets fan is easy. What, he’s supposed to celebrate Harden defecting?
I’d rather listen to Wally than a delusional toxic Strike Four 8 days a week.
Wallywood, do you trust the following two things?
1. According to Woj
Rockets will trade #2 pick for player to speed up the rebuild
2. According to Athletic – this article
Rockets will trade down if Magic are willing to take Eric Gordon contract
Who are they going to get in a trade better than Mobley, Green, or Suggs?
And Fred Katz of the Athletic is completely full of crap if he thinks the Rockets are going to trade down. They already have picks 2, 23, and 24.
What can they possibly gain by trading down? That makes zero sense.
They don’t want to get rid of Eric Gordon badly enough to trade down.
We are 20s, but they think we are 14 years old.
Don’t I wish, haven’t been in my 20’s since 1998.
Don’t trust the Athletic. They’ll write anything. I’m Rockets I take Mobley and trade Wood by trade deadline. His value should be sky high. I’ve read stories about Wood being a stat guy and not a team guy. I think he’s looking to get paid before his career is over. He sulks and is not in on team time outs. More like tuned out. Funny how Rockets are a magnet for these kind of players. Too bad
You say don’t trust the athletic bc they’ll write anything then u proceed to say Houston should trade their best player & use their #2 pick to replace him with a 19yr old 220lb center bc you “read” that CWood is a stat guy & not a team guy. Smh. He’s not in on the team time outs u say…. Wow lol u have extremely high self confidence lol I’ll give u that. Extremely misguided tho. Pass judgement on your own horrible takes before u criticize Christian Wood or the athletic. “I think he’s looking to get paid before his career is over”. You actually said that. A good start would be reflecting on the numerous reasons why that was a dumb thing to say.
Wood is their best player but he’s going to be wasted during this rebuild and if they do take Mobley, you’ve blocked your #2 draft pick. Wood has a very team friendly contract. And trading him to any team in the league doesn’t impact them as far as helping a competitor BC they are no where near contending in the next 2 years of his contract.
Wood definitely won’t be wasted during the rebuild. Trading him would obviously set their rebuild back tho. Drafting Jalen Green is the obvious move. But keeping Wood, a guy who chose Houston in free agency when he had numerous other options is an even more obvious move. He more than lived up to his contract, which many people criticized RStone for giving him. Trading him now is just dumb on so many levels smh
He got traded lol. Keep up.
To be fair he chose Houston when they still had Russ and Harden.
Would he be wasted? I mean, IDK. He’s 25, so he could still be in his prime if Houston gets its act together in 3-5 years. But at the very least he’ll be wasting a good chunk of his prime on lottery teams if he stays in Houston.
But I didn’t read it on the athletic. Listen you want to make a REAL point. All you have to do is ask or do it. This is not a competition. You won’t last with me. I’m all about truth. Wood in Houston has been exposed. I go to Houston all the time. I got family there. These stories have been out awhile now.Try researching before spouting ideas. I’m not about me. I’m about balling and the truth. Try and keep up. Dumb thing really. Why you think ballers play to win only. He left Detroit for the money. Now he’s stat hungry and is not in on Rockets rebuild. Do the math. Are you 12 yrs old. Google Woods and Rockets. I don’t need the web to tell me about Ball. I’ve forgotten more ball than you will ever take in. Some of us have done it and know this game well. Get real knowledge I’m not here to defend takes you can’t understand or don’t like.
KnickAl … I’m a stat guy myself … Only I’m 70 and I go for a triple double in life (can’t say what I count here though) … I give myself all year to get to double figures … I treat Jan-Sept as my regular season pacing myself like LeBron … then Oct starts my playoffs and I give it 100% ending on Dec. 30 … I always win Finals mvp too, no competition … then I take a day off before my next training camp starts …
I’m not a stat guy. Stats only explain some of the truth. The real value is what those do for your team. And how they affect winning. The poin I made is. Ben is not helping, it’s obvious now. Russ in his position easly beat Hawks. I don’t see what so hard to see that. Ben don’t even want to shoot. U think Russ won’t shoot. Plus he will lock down Trae. Bandwagon fans don’t get the truth about chemistry and team players. And playing both ways. It’s simple analysis about Russ being a better fit. Yet some here want to make this about me. I’m sorry I Know So Much.
Rockets are not trading down. The new GM and owner have mentioned several times they would rather do what it takes to build a team capable of winning multiple titles over a team just good enough to make the playoffs and gamble on a hot streak.
Westbrook is Carmelo Anthony in a guards body.
No one wants that contract.
Westbrook & Melo are both among the greatest basketball players in the history of the game. That much should be extremely obv by now… And obv at least 3 teams have wanted that contract. OKC gave it to him, Houston traded for him & then DC also traded for him, both giving up multiple 1st rd picks along with all-star pgs to get him & his contract that u think nobody wants. If y’all hate these basketball players so much why don’t u just pick a different sport to watch? Golf, hockey & Nascar have guys you’d probably like more
Huh? What constitutes the greatest of all time? They’re not in the top 50. Prob not in the top 100 either. If we disbanded the league now, is Westbrook even selected in the top 50? Prob not. Idk how 3 people liked such an inaccurate comment
They have their fans.
Not top 50 for me, it takes more than good twitch muscles!
You think all Russ & Melo have are “good twitch muscles”??? I’m not even a big fan of either guy tbh but it’s very very obvious that both guys are literally legends. If you can’t appreciate the greatest players in the game then what is the point of u watching basketball at all? Seems obvious that alot of y’all watch only to hate on guys and root for them to fail. Step 1 is to become aware of your toxic negativity. A good step 2 would be to figure out why u feel the need to be like that. Not just u either, there’s soooooo many that are just like u
The HOF constitutes who the greatest of all time are. I mean I’m explaining stuff to y’all that should be extremely obvious smh. Both Melo & Russ are 1st ballot HOFers as soon as their eligible. Both are perennial all-stars. Both are just obviously great to anyone that’s seen them play. If you’ve watched Melo & Russ at all over the past 15yrs then u should been aware that they’re among the greatest ever to play the game
Russ like or not will go down in the books for his triple doubles. He’s flawed but no one in his stratosphere with the trip dubs and I think that’ll stand the test of time.
BUT Carmelo does not belong in that sentence. Not even close.
When the East was at its worst and Carmelo was at his apex he could barely get his team to the playoffs.
He might be a 1st ballot HOF-er but he’s not an all-time great, unless we’re just counting anyone who averaged 20 ppg an all-timer now.
B69, I don’t follow triple-doubles much… seems irrelevant. LJ is out of it because he hits 7-8 assists & rebs and thinks that is enough… which it is. To go all the way, teammates must be relied upon to be champs, not personal-stat helpers. OscarR was not even that big of a winner, though the evidence is he uplifted teammates… UCincinnati won their titles right after he left.
When the announcers say that a .300 hitter is great because he hit .400 in May, then they ignore that he hit .200 in June.
You or I don’t have to follow them though. Oscar Robertson’s legend has lived half a century in large part on his averaging a triple double for a whole season. Russ did it 4 times now, I think?
Personally, I’m on the fence. Half of me thinks it’s state chasing. The other half thinks if it was that easy LeBron would have done it at least once, just to say he did it.
LJ likes groups though, for whatever reason.
One might think there could be a year to set aside, but there was always pressure to win at the time, even though the years blur together looking back.
Sankara they’re not in the HOF so why bring it up. Besides which, there are way more than 50 in the HOF.
I think you are childish fanboy and would struggle to define “great” or “legend” in any useful sense. You have no idea how long basketball has been played, all the great players that have played, all the competitors who you are leaving off a top 50 by including the very selfish Melo. He saw everything in his terms but played a team sport. He even got LJames thinking only solo just with a conversation. Usually that is an agent’s job.
Try to add perspective to your obsession. Step 1 would be to be able tell a difference between your idols. Step 2 they’re not idols.
Westbrook is nothing like Melo. You’re a lost soul.
as I said prior, Westbrook might be the only player trashed more by Sixers fans than Ben himself
What would the rockets want 4 1st round picks in one draft for. They can trade Gordon for a 1 without losing the #2 pick. They want Cunningham, Mobley, or Green.
The Rockets will have to rebuild for the next 3-5 years before they will be in contention again. It doesn’t matter if you have just 1 star player in the West. Even if Mobley is the next great star center. Trading out of 2 just to shed a contract that will have expired by the time they are good again makes zero sense.
Excatly that’s why it makes sense to trade Wood while he’s value is high. He’s 25 yrs old. He’s not in on no rebuild. Look it up. Research it. That’s for the board
Can’t see Wizards giving up Beal.
However if there was a chance I’d give up Simmons, Milton and a first for him, if they asked for more I’d give up Joe, Reed or Clarke but would want to keep Thybulle and Maxey.
On a side note, as a replacement for Ben, we will obviously be looking at Kyle Lowry who wants to come home. He’s a proven winner, great leader and would bring some solid experience to the locker room. However an alternative we should consider is Colin Sexton. He’s only 22, he’s got great intensity on both ends of the floor, steps it up in the clutch, and is a solid shooter and scorer. This past season he averaged 24-4.5-3 shooting 48-37-81.
Trade Simmons to the NFL
Weaver saved the Pistons from another major contract failure when he let Wood walk. Stewart playing more minutes than that made from glass.
OKC should trade Simmons for Kemba, give him some playing time then flip him for couple of picks if he shows some improvements. Only Presti can do that!
How many times does ESPN need to be told that no one with a top 3 pick in this class is going to trade it? If you have the chance to draft Cade, Green, or Mobley you aren’t passing up.
Eric Gordon + #23 + a future 2nd for Ricky Rubio’s expiring contract.
John Wall + #24 for Colby White, Thad Young, Aminu, and Satoransky
Draft Mobley, trade Christian Wood, offer 4/65 to Lauri Markkanen.
Westbrick wouldn’t fit well with Philly IF Simmons were still there. Not sure what the fit problem would be if Simmons was dealt to the Wiz in the same transaction. Sixers shouldn’t do it straight up (RW is still a negative contract in the real world). #15, plus something else could go to Philly.
Westbrick? Did he take your girl or something? Why so salty?
Don’t worry about it fanboy.
Yup
You seem fairly new here if you don’t know most of us call him Westbrick. It’s even autocorrected in my phone to fill in as Westbrick when I start typing it.
