Team USA and Wizards guard Bradley Beal has entered the health and safety protocols in Las Vegas, placing his participation in the Tokyo Olympics in jeopardy, Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press tweets.
There is nothing definitive about that at this point regarding Beal’s status for Tokyo, Reynolds adds.
It would obviously be a major blow for USA Basketball if the high-scoring All-Star is ruled out of the Olympics. The team has already struggled during exhibition play in Las Vegas, dropping two of its first three games. Beal scored a team-high 17 points in a 108-80 win over Argentina on Tuesday. He has started all three of the squad’s games in Las Vegas.
Team USA’s quest for gold begins in just 11 days.
It’s also uncertain who would be called upon to replace Beal or any other player, if needed. It was suggested after the Spurs’ Keldon Johnson, Cavaliers’ Darius Garland and Pistons’ Saddiq Bey were promoted from the Select Team to join Team USA in exhibition play that they would be considered as potential replacement players.
usa really needs a real pg. they are just gonna be abused by the other countries team play. i think they need cp3 for a gold.
They’re just exhibition games I wouldn’t read that far into it
He’s not wrong in that they need a PG.
Fair enough I just dont know that you need the perfect tactical lineup when you’re rolling out the best top to bottom roster in the world.
Edit: forgot kevin love was on the squad. Maybe they do need help…
love the kevin slam.lol
Lil D they are 0-2 so yes they do need to learn from these games. It’s not like they’re coming off a long RS… It’s a new team.
That there is only one PG on the team is an error that hopefully CPaul will fix. Indeed there are no real centers as I think both Adebayo and Love are better at forward.
i know the american media explains it just as an exhibition game to the casual basketball fan, but the games played are fiba sanctioned and are counted world wide as “real” games played. the usa losing now two of them “exhibition” games is the epitome of audaciousness the americans have that we can just flip the light switch and walk away with this.
Thank you.
These are definitely real games – that’s why they can tell you their record in these games dating back to “1928”.
These games are more like regular season games and the Olympics are the play-in tournament and the Playoffs.
They still are just exhibition games though. It has no bearing on what will happen in the Olympics. I wonder what your tune will be when they get Paul, Booker and Middleton after the finals and Team USA dominates like usual on their way to the gold in Tokyo.
CPaul could be crucial but I wonder if he has a continuing wrist problem. He did not seem to control the ball well.
The team has Bookers & Middletons already.
Would be fun to see Lonzo throwing passes to KD,Tatum,Lillard instead of Love being there
Those guys are there… maybe they don’t get open well enough.
If Steph comes and they win gold, it will only solidify his #1 status.
Solidify his status as the #1 player for Golden State?
Steph has never competed in the Olympics, maybe when he’s 36 he can go to Paris in 2024.
Good for Beal, he will get more rest before the next season… don’t see the appeal in loosing out rest for this elementary school type of tourney!
This and the news that cases in Tokyo are at a 6 month high just makes me again ask, why are we doing this? There is no need for the Olympics right now.
