To no one’s surprise, the Cavaliers have extended a qualifying offer to center Jarrett Allen, making him a restricted free agent, Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
The QO is worth just over $7.7MM with a cap hold of $11.73MM.
Cleveland acquired Allen in the multi-team James Harden blockbuster with the intention of locking him into a multi-year deal during the offseason. The addition of Allen led the Cavs to bench and eventually buy out Andre Drummond, who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Allen will one of the more attractive names on the restricted free agent market, but a suitor will likely have to deliver a giant offer sheet to him to make the Cavs think twice about matching it.
The 23-year-old Allen averaged 13.2 PPG, 9.9 RPG and 1.4 BPG in 51 games after the trade. Cleveland is expected to retain Allen even if uses the No. 3 pick in next week’s draft on the top big man prospect, USC’s Evan Mobley.
According to rumors
Cavs expected to offer Allen $100 million contract
I put it in Fake rumors category
Allen
real value 4 year $60 million
market value 4 year $80 million
Its a good idea to deal 3 for 4.
Another “hot take” hahah
Id take Mobley, sign Allen and see how they play together for a year
As long as Allen doesn’t get too crazy AAV he should be able to be dealt with no repercussions in 365 days if the fit doesn’t work
Mobley/Allen lineups seem like they could get a bit chalky but ya never know, they could be a mini twin towers, especially on the defensive end…. OFC getting Love out w minimal damage to the asset bank looms here, Cle going to need cash here soon but getting an identity next Thursday is a good start , sit and draft Mobs imo is the play
Might as well entertain what the raps and magic offer. Pass on Mobley take suggs and extra assets from Raptors.
True, Id entertain Toronto and Magic but it would have to be an overpay in all honesty where Im sitting today at 3 – Even OKC might Go Nuts w 6+ futures; Id lend an ear towards them as well …Hard to tell what OKC is thinking tho today
Im not even scratching my head w Orl until its 5+8 + Bulls slightly protected 23′ pick ….No Bulls pick, no #3
No way does Orlando offer more than 5 + 8 for 3. When Dallas moved up from 5 to 3 for Luka Doncic it cost them a top 5 protected future pick. 5 + 8 is plenty for 3.
That’s kind of my thought/point tho, tiering up {in the top tier} is going to cost more now Post Luka/Trae
The results rendered from that trade were not pretty despite ATL being a good team and Trae a pretty damn good player himself – Luka is ALL World and that’s how the top 3 are being portrayed in 22 for better or worse –
In all honesty If I believe Mobley is the man and Isaac can come back strong w my young/strong/cheapish guard set Id give that package even w the Bulls pick ….. I give it happily if my scouts say they believe Mobley be will a perennial All Star and they like the match
If Suggs is still considered elite what is the cost for the Raps to move upto 3, 4 and future first?
Good Q Wall…I believe that’s about right w some light protections on the first that probably wouldn’t matter as Tor would probably be a playoff team in the coming years
For all the talk of what a perfect fit Suggs/Tor is I like Mobley there a little more as it;s probably easier to get a guard today than a GOOD big in FA/trades
Such a cool draft as there really is a lot of possibilities that actually make a ton of sense for the teams at the top and middle of the draft
Why introduce redundancy? Right now they might have the point guard of the future in Garland as well as their shooting guard of the future in Sexton. A wing or athletic big is exactly what they need and Mobley is right there for the taking. KISS.. keep it simple stupid.
I think your ultimately right KFC fan in the end but ya gotta explore what’s out there at least like Weaver is doing
I would draft Mobley if they stay at #3. But would take #5 and #8 for the pick. But, of course, I like Kuminga as a prospect (almost as much as Mobley). If CLE doesn’t like Kuminga (or Barnes) to the same degree, then the analysis is different. Still, I don’t see more than #5 and #8 for CLE’s pick, more like “no deal” regardless. CLE shouldn’t give up the right to draft a prospect they consider elite, without getting the right to draft another.
I hear ya guys, it looks heavy from a traditional sense but I don’t think any team wants to be the next team to trade Luka /// and Mobley is getting Luka level shine pre-draft for better or worse ….
Dxc is right per usual, it really ALL depends on both teams view of Mobley on just how elite they think he will be, if its a star tho I dont think just 5 & 8 is enought o fill that gap today….2018 sure, probably market rate, today, post Luka, I think the market price on the Fish of the day goes up
Allen is an impact defender who can transcend the 5 spot on that end. I thought CLE stole him from HOU for what will turn out to be a pick in the 20’s. But they have to retain him. Nobody wants to overpay, but he just turned 23 and need to be part of the core. To me, it shouldn’t affect any decision in the draft, and I’m someone who thinks fit always has to be a consideration.
In this era you’re screwed if youre paying a non skilled big men over 20ms a year.
I think the best thing for Cleveland may be a sign and trade for Allen. See what people are willing to offer, then decide whether to take Mobley or Suggs or whomever. Cleveland is not a playoff team with Allen and it’s doubtful they would be in the next three years with Allen. So maybe see what is offered and try your luck with Mobley.
A S&T can’t come together until after the draft. Plus, they won’t get much. S&T’s for RFAs are rare, and the few that have happened suggest that (best case) they’ll be able to recover a protected future 1st.
I think they should draft who they want (or trade if they want), and then get ahead of the RFA market, and sign Allen to a contract that is “trade friendly” after a year or so. If Mobley can’t show his stuff alongside Allen, then he’s not the prospect he’s been promoted as.
