Kevin Love‘s decision to withdraw from the Olympics raises more questions for the Cavaliers about his future, Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes. Love is still bothered by the right calf strain that limited him to just 25 games this season, an alarming development for Cleveland, considering Love still has two years left on his contract. Rather than using his experience with Team USA as a springboard to a career revival, Love may be facing the prospect of seeing his career come to an abrupt end. The Cavs will soon have conversations with Love about his health issues, Fedor adds, though retirement has not been discussed or considered.
We have more from the Central Division:
- While there has been plenty of speculation about whether the Pistons are sold on Cade Cunningham as the No. 1 pick, it’s in their best interests to keep their intentions secret, Keith Langlois of Pistons.com writes. If GM Troy Weaver has any desire to trade the pick, it’s best the others come calling with increasingly better offers, rather than Weaver openly shopping it.
- The Pacers officially announced in a press release that former Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce, Ronald Nored, Mike Weinar and Jenny Boucek will be assistant coaches under Rick Carlisle. Pierce is currently an assistant with Team USA. Nored spent the past three seasons as an assistant with the Hornets, while Weinar spent 13 seasons with the Mavericks, four as an assistant coach. Boucek was also on Carlisle’s staff in Dallas the past three seasons.
- Although the Cavaliers have made Collin Sexton “very available” according to a recent report, they’ve put a hefty price tag on him, Fedor writes in a separate story. The Knicks have had discussions with the Cavs about Sexton but they’re just one of many teams monitoring the situation, according to Fedor. Cleveland may ultimately be better off holding onto Sexton next season and not signing him to an extension, then allow him to become a restricted free agent next summer. In that scenario, another team can set the price tag for Sexton and Cleveland can choose whether or not to match it.
Very cool draft class and setup this year
If I’m Orl I’m barking loud at Cle
A Mobley /Isaac pairing intrigues me down low
I think it costs 5+8 + Bulls 23 which many probably feel is high. But if they view Mobley a 10x All Star they’ll never have regrets
Fultz Hampton Cole Harris Ross has a little bit of everything and a ton of control years on the cheap for the guard play. This could be a fun team really quick out East
That’s not worth Cade. A bunch of picks that are far below his value?!!!
Who said anything about Cade? This is a trade proposal involving Cleveland, not Detroit…
As for the Cavs, I think it depends on what they choose to do with Allen/Sexton. I feel they’d be more willing to trade down if they extend Allen or get rid of Sexton
We’re speculating on Love retiring now?
That escalated quickly.
He’s going to keep rolling in those benjamins from the deep end of the bench for two more seasons first.
He’ll be day to day for three straight years.
Dear Cavs GM,
Please don’t f this up. KISS (keep it simple stupid). Don’t trade Sexton because there’s a guard in the draft you might like. Prospects are no guarantee. You did very well in drafting a 24ppg who shoots 47/37/81 with three 8th overall pick. Pat yourself on the back. It seems that Garland might turn into a really good/solid PG. They’re both the same size they were when you drafted them. Worrying about their size now seems rather stupud and makes ppl wonder why you drafted them anyway if that’s a concern. You could really use a strong and mobile wing player perhaps one with shooting range since you seem obsessed to give Allen a $100 mil deal. He’s a good center and all but unless he suddenly develops more range then he’s going to be the next underappreciated/ overpaid C like Drummond, Howard, etc. You made a HUGE mistake in giving Love that $140 mil and everyone thought soas soon as the ink dried. Don’t be shy with the money now and trade a young bull like Sexton because you choose to over pay for Love and to invest in Allen. Sexton ranks 3rd in career ppg behind LBJ and Kyrie. That should speak volumes about the franchise’s ability to bring talent to Cleveland. We’ve only done it via the draft with a lot of misses in between our 3 successes. Keep Sexland going, tell the media that you’re not trying to get rid of him but because the team sucks you’re listening to any calls about anyone doing your due diligence. Draft the best talent avail, preferably a SF/PF or Mobley and let’s see how they mesh. No need to worry. Having too much talent is a good thing. Worry about the rest later. Do not… NOT. mess this up. You will regret trading Sex th on. GMs are lining up to pick your pocket and THEY do so knowing he wants a large contract. That should tell you something.
I agree. Trading away ur best scorer is a horrible decision… I like there top picks the last 3 years. Garlands arrow is pointing up and Okoro has a lot of potential. And I like the pick up of Jarrett Allen. There biggest issues have been there other picks. Windler was a bad pick and there seconds haven’t turned into anything at all. They have to start hitting on some of those picks or it’s gunna b a long rebuild. Trading Sexton is such a bad move. But that’s also been the Cavs problem.
GMs are not lining up for Sexton. So far it’s only the Knicks and this article says they are only “monitoring”. I don’t think any player has ever had his (mediocre) assist number pushed so hard in this section, and had so many words on his behalf.
It’s more than the Knicks that have inquired about Sexton. It’s closer to half the league. Not just the Knicks!
Inquired, okay, to see what discount is being offered to back up the talk. But a sign of negotiations?
Prob nobody wants to trade yet, maybe not even CLE since reports of HOU not taking Mobley.
My gosh get it thru your head. Maybe he’s not meant to be a PG which is why the Cavs drafted Garland and since he wasn’t the primary distributor he “only” had 4.4 assists which was still a 1.5 apg over the orchids year. But what he did at a high level was average 24pts on 47/37/81 shooting. Curry, Lillard, Middleton, Lavine, Brogdon, Rozier, Beal and Kyrie were the only guards that shot better than 45/35/80. Give him credit for djing something great and showing improvement in his distribution of the rock.
There you go again with the 4.4 figure in a giant word-block. You sound oblivious to both of our histories on this topic. Sorry if I’m less obssessed with lionizing Sexton with endless loonng posts. It’s like you work for the FO and got assigned to propaganda. It won’t matter anyway probably as Mobley is looking the most likely for CLE.
