The Pacers are close to hiring former Hornets assistant coach Ronald Nored to join Rick Carlisle‘s staff, J. Michael of the Indianapolis Star tweets. Nored reportedly received consideration for the Wizards’ head coaching job. It’s not clear if he remains a candidate for that position, but presumably if he takes an assistant job in Indiana he wouldn’t expect to be hired by Washington.
The Pacers have zeroed in on former Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce as Carlisle’s top assistant. Darrell Armstrong, Carlisle’s longtime assistant with the Mavericks, will not join him in Indiana, J. Michael adds in a separate tweet.
We have more from the Central Division:
- Jalen Green‘s scoring ability makes him a legitimate candidate for the Pistons to select him with the top overall pick, Keith Langlois of Pistons.com writes. Green, who played with the G League’s Ignite team this season, is the most likely member of this year’s draft class to lead the league in scoring during his career, Langlois notes. At 6’6”, Green also has the size, elite skill level, athleticism and work ethic to be a special player in the league and that would give any team holding the top pick a lot to consider heading into the draft.
- The Pistons shouldn’t consider trading Jerami Grant coming off his career year, Rod Beard of the Detroit News opines. Dealing Grant would send a bad message that Detroit would be willing to flip an improving player who chose the franchise in free agency, Beard notes. Grant, who was recently added to Team USA, would be a top-line scorer and defender on a contending team, Beard adds.
- By re-hiring Carlisle, the Pacers are making a statement that they are no longer satisfied with mediocrity, says Bob Kravitz of The Athletic. Despite the team’s record this season, the Pacers have the pieces to make the playoffs and blossom into a contender. However, they need direction, professionalism and accountability, and bringing in Carlisle should facilitate that process.
How about a Trae-Luka type of trade for the PISTONS and ROCKETS.
PISTONS GM Troy Weaver seems to be ‘non-traditional’ as far as GM moves go …….. he might want to swing for the fences with Jalen Green and get some more assets for Cade.
Sounds good with Cade being Luka and Green being Trae. The Rockets have plenty of first round picks in the next two drafts (somewhere between 4 and 6) if they want to move up, plus two decent ones this year at #23 and #24.
If the Rockets believe Detroit is in love with Green, why trade up 1 spot to get Cade? They more than likely can’t trade back past 2 and still get Green.
Don’t see Detroit taking Green at 1 anyways. Probably a lot of smokescreen.
Cade is going first. Smokescreen it is.
In my own mock draft this is what I have.
Houston send the #2 and #23 to DET for #1 and #42 and #52
Of all the opportunities for satire you mock the draft? They’re just kids. Smdh…
Great mock draft
What is your 7-10 draft? I was not able to figure out
I could see just the two for one (2 and 23 for #1), there’s no need for Detroit to add a couple of second round picks even though Houston has none this year. They would still have two first rounders plus the Rockets already have 9 players under contract and 2 or 3 other players (Olynyk, Brown, and Nwaba) that they might consider re-signing bringing the roster up to 13/14.
Of course uou can see that wack trade clear through those rocket covered shades.
In your dreams.
Exactly, Houston fans love it, but Pistons won’t do anything like that. We are taking the best player in the draft.
I don’t think Houston has the assets to make that kind of trade. Has to be a huge overpay. We don’t want anyone on that roster. Not sure on rules of trading picks but would probably take this year and next years unprotected first (not sure if you can even trade two back to back) and our future first back from last years deal.
Why would Detroit give up a number 1 to drop back for a measly 28th pick.? Lol ridiculous!!!!!!
Let’s say #2 and Wood for #1, so that WallyWood has to change his name to TateWallery or the like.
Jalen green and cade Cunningham will be the best players to curried a fantasy on its back for years to come. That what so unique about detroit choosing between these two players
Love for Knicks to land Grant. >>>>> NYC
Toppin – Quickly – #1 pick .- Noel (if we could). I wish
Green really could be best talent. One day when we look back. If he’s got the attitude and commitment. He’s got to be tempting for Pistons or Rockets. Pistons get another pick plus Green. Have to consider it. I don’t think you go wrong with either Mobley or Green. Getting Mobley means moving Wood. And scoring big again for Rockets. Full rebuild is best plan for Rockets, Got Wall and Gordon to move too.
Why on earth would the Pistons accept a trade that didn’t involve a potential lottery picks? 1 for 3 cost 3 additional 1sts in the Webber-Penny trade. 1 for 3 cost the Sixers an additional lottery pick (14) that could have been as high as #2 overall.
I would say a future unprotected pick versus #23. You’re unlikely to draft a starter at 23 compared to a lottery pick.
Also, Detroit could get a proven player if the wanted for the pick if they didn’t want to suck for years.
Exactly, spot on.
