The Pacers have talked about a deal that could send center Myles Turner to the Warriors, Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer said in a recent podcast with Chris Vernon (h/t BasketballNews.com).
The Warriors possess two lottery picks in this Thursday’s 2021 NBA draft, the No. 7 and No. 14 selections. A mobile, defensive-oriented center who can guard multiple positions and is a career 35.2% shooter from deep, Turner could be an excellent fit in Golden State. The 25-year-old big man averaged 12.6 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 3.4 BPG across 47 games during the 2020/21 season.
There’s more out of the Central Division:
- The Pacers will be holding their eighth pre-draft workout on Monday, tweets Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files. The Pacers have the No. 13 pick in the upcoming draft. The players set to partake are Marcus Burk of IUPUI, Trevion Crews of Bethel College, Kyle Mangas of Indiana Wesleyan, Matt Mitchell of San Diego State, Jordan Schakel of San Diego State, and Aaron Wiggins of Maryland.
- The Pistons intend to hire former Trail Blazers assistant Jim Moran to Dwane Casey‘s coaching staff for the 2021/22 season, tweets James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. Moran served under former Portland head coach Terry Stotts from 2015/16 through this past season.
- Beyond the top selection in the 2021 NBA Draft, the Pistons also have three second-round picks. In a recent column, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic examines some options for Detroit while conducting a mock draft.
Of course it’s my thought that the Warriors pick up veterans instead of keeping their draft picks. I believe Myles Turner is a warrior next year “IF” a big splash can’t be made. I would even think Golden State over pays a little to bring in a guy like this. There’s no way they’re sitting with two rookies and Wiseman on opening day. I think Golden State’s current Big 3 plus a couple other veterans who are starters will be brought in.
Would you take this trade?
Warriors get Turner and Warren
Pacers get Wiggins and 7
Third team trades a rookie contract for 7?
This is from the rumor
3 team trade makes way more sense. Oubre outgoing in S&T almost perfectly matches Turner. Give the Pacers 14 and a future first and second. Warriors get Turner. Oubre 2 firsts and a second go out. Maybe get another pick from the Oubre S&T from the receiving team since they would be over the cap most likely.
Turner is interesting because the Pacers actually want to move him for fit reasons. He isnt as big a star so the acquisition cost is lower than a Beal. Turner has some red flags as well though since his 3% has dropped as his volume has increased over 4 seasons now. Dude is not a 36% 3PT shooter anymore. He also regressed across the board on per 36 other then in blocks this last season. His contract isnt bad, but he isnt cheap and above avg anymore. I would at most give up 14 and a future first and second for him.
The problem is Wiggans is good for the Warriors as a rotation member, but his contract has negative value so any trade where he goes you lose his production plus the present and future of the other assets to consolidate talent into one body on a capped out team that actually needs cost controlled young players. Any deal where you can just use some assets and keep like Wiseman/Wiggans the team benefits. Dropping Wiggans from the lineup is a performance downgrade even if he is overpaid some. It would make tons of sense for GSW to move a pick for a roll player, but all their contracts are either max or min, so finding a goldilocks deal with money and value on both sides match is sooooooooo hard. Looney is the only player on the roster besides Wiseman making more than 2M and less than 25M. Crystal ball says no trades occur other than Oubre S&T where they generate a TPE. everything else is just to hard to make work. Unless they want to massively over pay.
You only get trades that make sense with Wiggans for a true super star. LBJ, AD, Joker, Giannis, Embiid, Luka, KD, Kahwi. These guys Upgrade the starting 5 enough to make the cost worth it. You still run the risk of not finding enough ring chasers to fill out your roster, but your in a good space.
Turner-Green-Thompson-LaVine/Beal-Curry
Looney, Wiseman, JTA, Poole, Lee, Paschall, GP2
Wins 60+ games. Easily.
How on earth are you expecting the Warriors to add both Turner and LaVine/Beal while retaining Wiseman?
It’s delusion lmao
The best they can hope to add is someone like Eric Gordon.
Not my job, but LaVine could be had in a sign and trade with Oubre. Trade every future pick. Boom.
I’m reading that “Steph needs help” lmfao thanks for confirming Marty. School starts next month, hope your electives arent harder than your ability to fill out a NBA roster with a cap.
They might as well get KD back as well. Lol
Looney tunes lol. Everyone goes to Warriors according to the Homer Monger. It’s his world lol
Worst case scenario is what I mentioned above, which is bring in veterans and trade away the draft picks.. and then revisit acquiring a stud at the trade deadline.
If teams don’t find the 7 and 14 attractive in this year’s draft right now, then perhaps at the trade deadline the price for Simmons or Beal or Damian Lillard will be lowered to future firsts Plus salary match player. But again, that’s worst case scenario.
Gary. I think they might use next years first round pick in trade discussions. If they have a great season as hoped for, that pick will be late in a potentially weak draft.
Good idea, trade 2022 Warriors First
Keep 14 to take Murphy
or duarte
At the deadline the players you drafted and Wiseman have a chance to have raised their value. If they havent though the Warriors are out of future firsts for a big deal. They put to much protection on the first going to MEM in 2024 so they can ship the 2022 pick after the league year starts, or the 2027 first. They could do pick swaps on I think one more year for 2023. The MEM 1st is 1-4 ’24 1 ’25 unprotected ’26 so it will almost for sure convey in ’24 but they cant trade any from 24-26 until it does. If they want to pay MEM a future second or something they could buy the way into the ’24 pick becoming unprotected.
So the two picks that become players instead of lottery tickets on July 29th means in any deal the team would have to like those players. GSW can build a big package this offseason when a lot of the players they would most want to make a blockbuster for arent available. They lose a big part of the package after the draft. This is why they have talked about trading out of the draft since it would let them turn these draft assets into future firsts to keep a basket of picks for a big deal.
Good points Chapmansvacuum. Their hand is quite a bit weaker at the trade deadline, but I would think the prices come down on their targets? But I think you’re right everything goes into the next 4 or 5 days right here. All their chips are on the table.
Every deal is just so complicated. Also all the teams know the Warriors are looking, so they are all asking for everything not bolted down. I think some of these reports of the big 3 wanting this or that are total BS. Since the big 3 know that they would be killing the teams leverage to publicly demand it. They want more vets, but that can be added by waiving Smily and signing a vet…
As fun as they are for national writers to talk about, the reality is they are an over the tax team with a difficult assortment of contracts to build deals, and ownership has to at least somewhat think about ’23-’26 and not bankrupting it for a marginal upgrade.
In all probability they make there picks sign some vets, and really shake it up next year if it doesnt work and its not injury related.
Woj literally just posted GSW are either keeping the picks, or trading them for Beal. Wiggins-Turner however is a nice matchup in a trade, perhaps in a multi-team deal.
Turner comes together if they find a S&T for Oubre. He would be real close to 18M outgoing and the team wouldnt be hard capped if they arent receiving a player who just signed so Turner works going to GSW, Oubre to a third team. Otherwise he makes less then all the big deals and more then the rest of the roster if Wise/Loon arent included.
GSW gets Turner and Warren.
Pacers get Wiggins, 7, and 14.
Pacers flip #14 for Colin Sexton. Draft Barnes, Kuminga, or Wagner at #7 and Kai Jones or Sengun at #13
Brogdon/Holiday
Sexton/Lamb
LeVert/Holiday
Wiggins/#7 pick
Sabonis/#13 pick
If the Warriors are going to trade for Turner then I would expect Wiseman is going to be headed out. Wiseman needs to play more than he would if he had to sit behind a talented and still young guy like Turner who is making a lot of money. It wouldn’t be like it was with Chriss and Looney as the other centers on the roster.
The Pacers dont want Wiseman. The whole reason they want to trade Turner is a log jam at C. Wiseman to the Hornets, a shooter to the Pacers, and Turner to the Warriors could maybe be something. If Im GSW 7/14/Wise which matches salary is such an overpay for Turner though that I would never do it.
That is why I said Wiseman would be “headed out” instead of to “to the Pacers”. A 3 way deal would make the most sense for getting the money and value to work for everyone.
GSW: Turner
CHA: Wiseman
IND: Wiggins, 7, 11
IND: Gordon, Simmons, 24
PHI: Brogdon, 7, 11, 23
HOU: 13
LMAOOO!!! GSW is getting murdered in that deal, Wiseman+Wiggins+the picks is worth a LOT more than Myles Turner! At minimum you gotta add TJ Warren, but even then its light.
Wiggins-Turner is much cleaner, with IND flipping Wiggins
Just to be clear, the warriors are only giving up one pick, the number 11 pick is from the hornets.
With that in mind, if you add Warren, might be close
That’s not true, GSW’s ultimate goal is Turner, Looney and Wiseman next year. I think there’s no way they trade Wiseman unless it’s for Cade.
Why would the Warriors want to pay 18 million a year to Turner and then have him split time with Wiseman and Looney? That is a lot to pay for a guy to play 20-25 minutes a night. That is unless you think the Warriors are OK with Wiseman getting just 10 minutes a game. And to get him they will have to create a hole in the lineup by trading Wiggins.
Yes, I would let Turner get his 30 mins, Looney 15 at the “big man” spot.
Wiseman goes to the G league for 30-something games, then get him 10-20 minutes a game over the last 50 games, modeling his game after Turner.
Wiseman doesnt HAVE to be a rotation regular after all he’s done so far, a season bringing him along easy is a good idea here.
I really like the fit of Turner on GSW
Turner is a great fit on GSW. I’ve been saying it for awhile. He’s also likely (still) available, although that’s been less clear since mid-season.
GDW’s problem is a trade has to fit both teams. IND’s reasons for trading Turner (fit and $$) preclude them taking back either Wiseman (worse fit) or Wiggins (worse $$). GSW needs to get other teams involved that might have interest (of one kind or another) in these two players.
Essentially being Turner-Wiggins but do it via a multi-team trade, or IND flips Wiggins – both work fine for both teams.
It has to be multi-team, with the third team taking Wiggins. IND isn’t going to warehouse that contract and the appurtenant tax liability. The question is can GSW find a team willing to take Wiggins, and for what compensation? Are they willing to pay that, plus pay IND something for Turner? Has to be more than a rumored trade than what one team wants and is willing to give up.
