Clippers guard Patrick Beverley will face a suspension at the start of next season for shoving Chris Paul from behind in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports. The incident occurred during the fourth quarter of the Suns’ clinching victory. Beverley has since apologized on Twitter, stating, “@CP3 emotions got the best of me last night gang. My bad wasn’t meant for you. Congrats on making it to the Finals. Best of Luck.”
We have more on the Clippers:
- With Kawhi Leonard dealing with an unknown knee injury and potentially opting out, and Reggie Jackson and Nicolas Batum headed to unrestricted free agency, the team faces an uncertain future after reaching the conference finals for the first time, Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times writes. The expiring contracts of Beverley and Rajon Rondo could be used as trade chips, and the Clips could also explore trade options for Luke Kennard, whose didn’t play up to expectations after signing a four-year extension, Greif adds.
- Batum isn’t sure what his future holds but he’s grateful to the organization for reviving his career after it went sour in Charlotte, according to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times. “Now look where I am right now, just incredible. It’s amazing to what happened to me this year,” he said. “I can’t thank enough the Clippers’ organization for giving me a chance to be a basketball player again. I wasn’t sure what I could do this year, and they give me a chance to be a player again.”
- In case you missed it, Paul George believes the team would have made the Finals if Leonard was healthy. He’s also eager to recruit players for next season. Get the details here.
Not sure how Kennard didn’t play up to expectations. Just look at his 3PT%. Did they expect him to shoot over 50% from three?
The problem is the Clippers traded for and paid for someone they either didn’t understand or later realized they didn’t want. No one to blame but themselves.
Paul George what if
Lakers can also say they can win it all if both LeBron and Davis were healthy
Nuggets can also say the same for Murray healthy
“Beverley has since apologized on Twitter…”
Does anyone remember the days when people talked to each other?
Agreed. An apology over Twitter would be fine with me, IF the offense was committed over Twitter. Here, a face to face is in order, but at least a phone call if that’s not practical.
Cause ultimately he’s really not that sorry…but this is for PR purposes.
Pepperidge Farm remembers
I don’t see any reason that the Clippers don’t just run it back next year with the same cast of characters. They were 2 games away from the Finals without their beat player. In order to account for raises , picks, etc. you let Batum walk, resign Jackson and Cousins.
You don’t view things like this
It’s completely different playoffs next year
Example
Heat win the East last year
Heat got swept in the first round this year
If 76ers don’t trade Simmons, next year they could be knocked out by healthy Nets, Bucks or Hawks in the first round
If other teams are fully healthy
Imo
5 west teams have a good chance to defeat Clippers next year
In other words, Clippers could be knocked out in first round next year
You’ve somehow managed to say nothing in this comment and it’s actually impressive
I’ll simplify it clippers are far from likely to win the west based off their promising results this year ! Lakers nuggets and even jazz probably feel they where health away from winning the west , next year the west will be as wide open as its been In western conference history
The push wasn’t meant for Paul? Then who was it for? Beverly be a man
It’s like Kawhi’s injury was a blessing as they played without pressure and have an excuse for not winning the series. Lame.
2021-22 season
Team salary $176 million = need to pay $147 million luxury tax
If Clippers pay Jackson $17m and Batum $6m, Clippers Team salary is $173 million.
Jackson market value $17 million
If Lakers keep 4 free agents
Schroeder $20 million
Carusa $14m
Tucker $12m
Drummond $6m
Lakers team salary is $176 million
Clippers luxury tax $147 million
Lakers luxury tax $147 million
Rockets fans are saying that Rockets owner enjoys receiving luxury tax profit
As long as KL doesn’t bolt, Clips might as well run it back. KL won’t be tradable if he re-ups. They don’t control their own draft picks after the next 5 seasons, and they’ll have no cap space for a few years.
Not optimistic despite their talented (when healthy) roster. The biggest negative of their post season was becoming truly Lue’s team. All success and failure has been, and will be, by the seat of their (his) pants, playing matchups, etc. Better than Rivers, in that he’s at least proactive. Still, championship teams need an identity beyond the HC’s next lineup reshuffling, and, like Rivers, Lue appears hostile to any notion of it.
I thought Lue did a really great job – Not his fault his two stars want nothin to do w leading or setting an example for the others
I mean we laud Pop, as we should, and look what he got out of KL…… Some point a spades just a spade .
I doubt Leonard will leave…there’s just way too much money with the new arena and Ballmer for that too happen …
There will be side accounts opened and filled with gold for KL to stay put . This descion goes far far far beyond basketball for Ballmer, he will not color just between the lines here
