The Warriors brought in some first-round prospects for workouts on Friday, Anthony Slater of The Athletic tweets. Chris Duarte, Keon Johnson, Corey Kispert, Trey Murphy III, Ziaire Williams and Ayo Dosunmu visited the Warriors’ training facility. Johnson is the highest-rated prospect on the list, as the Tennessee guard is currently ranked No. 9 overall by ESPN.
Gonzaga’s Kispert (No. 13), Virginia’s Murphy (18), Oregon’s Duarte (23), Stanford’s Williams (24) and Illinois’ Dosunmu (34) could all be off the board by the second round. Golden State holds the seventh and 14th overall picks.
We have more draft-related news and tidbits:
- The Hornets looked at a handful of prospects on Thursday, the team’s PR department tweets. That group included Jahvon Blair (Georgetown), Tahj Eaddy (USC), Balsa Koprivica (Florida State), Sterling Manley (North Carolina) and M.J. Walker (Florida State).
- Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green, Evan Mobley and Jalen Suggs — the highest-rated prospects — are among the 15 players already invited to Green Room for the draft, which will be held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Jonathan Givony of ESPN tweets. Davion Mitchell, James Bouknight, Keon Johnson, Scottie Barnes, Franz Wagner, Jalen Johnson, Kispert and Moses Moody will also be there. As previously noted, Jonathan Kuminga, Josh Giddey and Kai Jones have received invites. The remaining invites will be determined next week, Givony adds in a separate tweet.
- Ohio University guard Jason Preston blogged about the Pistons as a teenager, James Edwards III of The Athletic writes in a feature piece. Edwards details Preston’s journey from a journalism student who wasn’t recruited out of high school to a likely second-round pick. He’s currently slotted at No. 42 on ESPN’s list.
Warriors lucked out with 2 picks in the top 15. If they don’t make a trade they will be restocking for a future dynasty.
Warriors need to use Wiseman to trade up
I truly believe that Wiseman has better potential than Evan Mobley
Wiseman is two months older than Mobley
Warriors aren’t trading Wiseman. That would be an absolutely MORONIC move on their part of they did.
They already spent one year of growing pains with Wiseman, would they really want to just start over again with Mobley?
Preston was recruited out of AAU because his HS coach held back player development to win games. I think that happens lot, or used to. For it to happen requires seeking out an AAU environment which likely means a city.
This is not what the article is about per se, just a take.
I know in Texas they hold back students for football so they are bigger and older for the high school teams.
Ha, crazy but it makes sense really.
In this case though I meant the HC ordered game-long stalls.
Aw shucks you’re right, us Texans are just a bunch of backward hillbillies. I’m sure the rigid deed restrictions in x%’s subdivision outside Cleveland keep out all the “undesirables”. That’s very neighborly of him, keep up those property values.
That is not what’s being said. It is a known fact that high school football is so big in Texas some parents hold their kids back so they are bigger and stronger in high school. In most parts of Texas high school foot ball is bigger than the NBA.
I can see them going a guy who can contribute right away at 7. Then a guy who they can project to b able to play with wiseman for the future. So someone like Kispert or Mitchell at 7 and then Keon Johnson, Kai Jones, Moses Moody, Scottie Barnes, Jalen Johnson or Ziare Williams at 14. Moody and Kispert would actually b ideal. Kispert is a 6th man type right away. And Moody and Wiseman pick and roll in the future would b down right dirty.
you have kispert and barnes reversed.
I just can’t wait to see which green room invite slides. It’s always one of the more interesting parts of draft night. In a way it is cruel, but it’s also very amusing to watch the TV people constantly talking about how horrible it is for the individual as they constantly show him on TV.
U might be a miserable hater if.. ur more excited to see a kid slide in the draft & watch hoping he’s humiliated on national TV than u are excited to see the joy & happiness that comes from watching the hopes & dreams of the best young basketball players in the world come true
Train wreck TV exists. Reality TV has proven that people don’t want to watch other people’s dreams come true on television. They want to watch miserable people be sad and angry and fight all the time.
You say they when you should be saying I. Just because there’s a lot of other miserable haters (especially of young, talented black men) doesn’t make it ok for you to also be a miserable hater
No, I say they when I should be saying they. I don’t watch train wreck TV. The last reality show I watched was the second season of Survivor just because they had a guy on it from the next town over. However, I do observe what types of shows get high ratings. Therefore the term THEY applies.
And what’s with the whole racist thing? Nothing was mentioned about race AT ALL. In fact the only specific players mentioned in the whole thread (Schintzus, Quinn) are white. Get the chip off your shoulder and join the actual conversation instead of what you want the conversation to be in order to whine and complain. And stop making assumptions about people that you do not know AT ALL.
Remember Dwayne Schintzius? He was in The Green Room with his little suit on and he had top 10 Talent but sat there and sat there. Many teams needed a center but they knew he was lazy and wasn’t going to make it even though he was 7-2 and could probably match up skill-wise with anyone. I think everybody felt bad for the kid.
Brady Quinn gets nice tv studio jobs for football and when I see him I am reminded of him sitting waiting to get named. He was one of the first in that situation and was much mentioned. 2007
Can’t see the Warriors not making a deal for Damian Liliard.
If the trade is Wiseman, Wiggins, 7 and 14…
Draymond/Looney
Oubre
Klay
Dame
Steph/Poole
That’s the lineup, certainly small ball and mismatch central on defense.
Or they can have a deeper roster
Wiseman/Looney
Draymond/Oubre
Wiggins/Kispert
Klay/Mitchell
Steph/Poole
Oubre is a free agent and said he doesn’t want to be a 6th man.
GSW can still retain him they have his bird rights… so if they pay him more than other teams he’ll stay in whatever role they want.
I’ll trade Kay for Dame in heartbeat! There’s no way he’s going to be the same player from 2019 finals! 2 back to back major injuries, that’s going to haunt him. The game evolves every year. Look at Boogie Cousins, he used to dominate the paint. He was so good with the Pelicans that he overshadow AD but he got hit with 2 major injuries and he never been the same since that.
Wagner is not a lottery pick to me. He will need time, not a fan. Kispert can shoot. But will have trouble guarding people. Kai is just starting to understand his gm. Plenty upside here, very nice big for today’s gm. Not a Moody guy either. He’s rated too high, don’t get why. Like Tre Murphy for Knicks if we don’t trade up. Barnes is a raw talent that may not pan out. But he will need time and is not ready for major minutes. He fits a rebuilding team looking to future. He’s not helping anyone next yr. This first rd has plenty talent. There will be gems outside lottery this yr.
He plays better defense than guys like Markkanen who are similar type of players. Better D than his bro. He can guard 2-4 depending on who it is.. some guys will cook him for sure. He isn’t like Thybulle or Simmons D but I’d say he’ll turn in a 112 or lower per 100 drtg
Why would anyone work out Manely. He’s an old school center who couldn’t ever stay on the court. Even when he was on the court he wasn’t very good. Is Jordan’s goal to give every washed up tar heel a job?
