Reports in recent weeks identified the Nos. 9 and 10 picks in the draft as two of the most available lottery picks. New Orleans agreed on Monday to move the 10th pick to Memphis, while the Kings‘ pick at No. 9 continues to be viewed as available, writes Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.
In addition to Sacramento’s pick, the Spurs‘ (No. 12) and Pacers‘ (No. 13) selections are among the lottery choices that could be had, according to Fischer, who suggests that both teams are viewed as candidates to move back into the mid-teens or early 20s if the price is right.
As for which teams picking later in the first round might be looking to move up, Fischer says the Knicks (Nos. 19 and 21), Rockets (Nos. 23 and 24), and Nets (No. 27) fit that bill. Brooklyn has been willing to discuss shooting guard Landry Shamet in trade talks, Fischer adds.
Here are a few more draft-related rumors and notes:
- Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report is the latest reporter to indicate that Chris Duarte is unlikely to fall past the No. 15 pick on Thursday. The Lakers are among the teams that have shown interest in Duarte and have looked into possibly moving up in the draft, Wasserman notes.
- James Bouknight, Duarte, Trey Murphy, and Jonathan Kuminga are among the prospects the Warriors are eyeing, says Wasserman. While Kuminga isn’t necessarily NBA-ready, there’s support for him within Golden State’s front office from those who consider his upside too significant to pass up, Wasserman adds.
- The Warriors turned down a Knicks offer of the Nos. 19 and 21 picks for the No. 14 selection, per Wasserman.
- Some teams outside the top 10 believe Michigan forward Franz Wagner has assurances he’ll be selected in the top 10, according to Wasserman. The Kings at No. 9 are considered a strong candidate for Wagner if they keep their pick.
- Both Wasserman and Matt Babcock of BasketballNews.com continue to suggest the Raptors aren’t a lock to draft Jalen Suggs at No. 4, since the team has done “extensive homework” on Scottie Barnes.
- Alabama’s Joshua Primo and Illinois’ Ayo Dosunmu are two of the prospects Wasserman has heard linked to the Nuggets at No. 26.
- Alperen Sengun has a good chance of being a lottery pick, according to Babcock, who says the Turkish big man could be picked as high as No. 8 by the Magic.
If GSW tries to do some “Kuminga and Wiseman are going to be great in 2025!!!” crud with Steph and the core, the fans will riot.
Funny to see the Knicks try to trade up to 14, uhhh nah.
Only you will riot. I have a feeling 1 of the picks will be traded for rebounder that GSW need. I want Wiseman to stay for the future unlike you think only about 2022.
The Warriors were around before Steph, Klay, and Draymond and they’ll be around after. Yes, right now is the tail-end of their run, but to mortgage the future would be unwise. The rookies don’t need to be all-stars right away to help the team now, they just need to be better than Wanamaker and the other end of the bench players.
If the Warriors do something dumb like #7, #14, Wiseman, and Wiggins for Siakam, I’d riot for that.
I would not be happy about that trade since Siakam is coming off a bad injury. last thing the warriors need is a injured player. Just like with a Beal trade throwing all your eggs in one basket but if he gets hurt the team is out of the playoffs. bring in young healthy players for the next dynasty.
I won’t riot Marty, and Wiseman will be very good long before 2025, and he can ALREADY shoot, which is why I’m not real high on Kuminga, who can’t. But Kuminga’s big and athletic and so scouts love the all important “upside” , they probably think “Giannis.” Personally I like Duarte. Looks like Klay2.0 … We shall see … Like Mitchell and Jalen Johnson too.
I might riot if they trade both picks AND Wiseman.
I’m a Michigan fan, and am quite surprised to hear Wagner is assured of a top-10 pick. Happy to be proven wrong on this though!
All about the advanced metrics and BBIQ. He’ll be fine so long as the shooting comes around as much as teams would expect it to.
The fans might tell management not to let the inmates run the asylum. Beal is not the answer. Bring in more depth and youth with upside.
Serious question: do the Warriors actually see Wiggins as an asset? Feels like every trade scenario out there is treating his inclusion (his contract anyway) like an asset.
remember when the kings drafted marvin bagley lollll what the F
If Kuminga falls past #6, he seems like a must draft. I says “seems like” because who knows what’s floating out there (guys fall for a reason, and you have to know what it is, at a minimum, before selecting a guy).
I know GSW’s first choice is to trade these picks for vets (and it should be, since the pick is almost always more valuable than the player’s rights). But their second choice should be some combination of drafting the most tradable prospects and/or draft night trades of these picks for future picks. IMO, Kuminga would figure to be a good pick on that basis. Obviously, they’d have to like him too, but it appears they do.
Exactly what GSW will do. I would not be surprised if they draft a player to only flip him at draft day for a very good vet. You know a lot of teams will be saying if this guy is hanging around at 7 or 14 I will trade to you this all star.
I’m glad the Warriors turned down that offer. I don’t think the difference in talent between picks 14-21 is big enough to justify moving up. As a Knicks fan, I would rather have two mid-first round talents than one. Increases your chances of having a contributing player. #14 just isn’t high enough (on paper and pre-draft) and if that’s the asking price, I’d be happy to stay put. Now, if it’s draft day and some talent has fallen to #14, that’s different, but right now, no thanks.
I can see why the Warriors wouldn’t want to do that trade as they’re in win now mode, but for the Knicks, they can be more patient.
I’d be disappointed in a trade of the two picks for #14 as well. But I’m as disappointed that the offer was made (if in fact it was), as it’s not a good sign about how the Knicks’ FO feels about either the depth of this draft or their ability to evaluate the players in it, or both. You make a deal like this (a chart overpay) many days BEFORE the draft only if think you really aren’t going to like much of anything that’s left at #19. Whether that’s because it’s a not a deep draft (at all) or this FO isn’t up to evaluating all but a few players likely to available after the top 10 or so.
#14 pick worth 1320, #19 pick worth 1030 and #21 pick worth 920(based on Kevin Pelton 2017 version of NBA Draft Pick Trade Value Chart) according to this….maybe they should’ve done it!
P.S. #7 pick worth 2000 btw
The 14th pick only means. Assurances that you will get Murphy or Duarte. Or whoever could fall. Murphy is a player with a future. And one who could even start next yr. He’s definitely a sixth man and can replace Bullock. That’s what they are thinking. He won’t last till #19. Plus Johnson could fall to 14 or even Kai. You go for the players that you want. You gotta respect that. Warriors are all about next yr. They want vets, so they are open for business. Everyone knows that.
Why draft Duarte when you can sign Denzel Valentine for nothing?
