The Nets own a first-rounder at No. 27 and three second-rounders, so expect them to be very active this evening, Brian Lewis of the New York Post writes. Multiple teams are interested in guard Landry Shamet and the Nets would love to dump DeAndre Jordan‘s salary. Some of those picks could be dealt in one or more deals involving those players. General manager Sean Marks has developed a reputation of making deals on draft night, Lewis notes.
We have more draft-related news involving Eastern Conference teams:
- The Cavaliers continue to field calls with the No. 3 pick, but they’ll keep it unless they get an overwhelming offer, according to Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. If they hold onto it, the Cavs will take USC big man Evan Mobley, assuming Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green are off the board. Cleveland also believes it can put together a package for another lottery pick in the top 10 by dangling some combination of Collin Sexton, Larry Nance Jr. and its 2022 first-rounder.
- The Heat do not own a draft pick but that could change, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald writes. Miami could not only make a trade, it could also buy a pick with the $5.6MM it has at its disposal for 2020/21 transactions before the NBA calendar flips on Monday.
- There’s growing speculation among lottery teams picking after the Raptors at No. 4 that they’ll pull a surprise and take Florida State forward Scottie Barnes, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report tweets. However, Jonathan Givony of ESPN claims in his latest mock draft that the league overwhelmingly expects them to select Gonzaga point guard Jalen Suggs, so the Raptors could be playing mind games with their competitors.
- The Pacers brought in Alex Antetokounmpo (Murcia CB in Spain) and Jaquori McLaughlin (UC Santa Barbara) for workouts on Tuesday, according to a team press release.
Heat can trade Herro for a first round pick
14th pick is worth more than Herro now
I feel like that is giving up on him too soon. Half a Corona season and a quick turnaround full season isn’t a fair shake.
the heat are dumb for not trading him for Harden. a big three of Bam/Butler/Harden would be a East Favorite the next 2-3 years
Why would the Raptors draft Barnes? Isn’t he basically a poor man’s OG?
As a Raptors fan I really hope they don’t do that.
If they cant get Mobley I want them to just trade the pick. They need frontcourt help desperately and if they cant draft the help, trade the pick for it. Dont need more guards and wings.
If they sign-and-trade Lowry or just lose him straight up in free agency, I’d be down for them to draft Suggs.
I think they should draft Suggs regardless. I think he is going to be a really really good player and could step into Lowry’s spot either this year (if Lowry is moved) or in a couple years from now.
Suggs is my favorite player in the draft. I acknowledge he has the lowest ceiling of the top 4 guys, but I think he is the player most likely to hit his ceiling because I think he has the best work ethic, and drive to do so. If he doesn’t it sure as hell won’t be for lack of effort.
Yeah, it also seems like he has the highest floor. He will be a solid NBA starter at a minimum.
Cade and Suggs have the highest floors, Green and Mobley have the highest ceilings.
I would argue Kuminga has a higher ceiling than anyone in the draft. But the risk is higher of any top 10 pick.
Wallywood
I said that Green has more potential than Cade.
Why did you disagree with me 3 months ago?
Jalen Green has won me over since then, what can I say.
I totally agree about that. I love what he said the other day, he’s never been able to fully focus on basketball. In high school he played other sports also. In college, he was a student.. this is the first time he will ever be able to fully focus on improving his game.
Yes, and too many draftees are sidetracked with video games or other ways of pleasuring themselves. That’s the trouble with young kids today: too many things taking away their focus. But oh, when they get to the NBA you can be sure that all the distractions go away and they can finally just focus on basketball. Smooth sailing from there on out.
Do you buy all the horse crap that is presented to you?
suggs is focused and well grounded. he won’t be distracted. the guy has blue collar oozing from his veins.
Not doubting him, just the silliness about the idea this being the first time he will be able to focus on basketball is the key to unlocking all his potential, going to the NBA. I get the draft needs stories, narratives, hype, but that is a silly notion.
Nope. More like a poor man’s Draymond Green. Although a nice kid.
But they need to take Suggs. I’m not sure why it’s even an issue. If it is.
I have no idea if all these rumors are true or not but the way they’ve allowed the media to devalue Sexton is criminal. Even if they might want to move him why not publicly deny the reports just to try and increase leverage thru the media? The media reports make it seem like he can be had for nothing. Sexton traded for a late lottery pick? Altman should be fired immediately if that were done.
Why not, they already gave away Kevin Porter for nothing.
I think Altman is overreaching, offering talent and next year’s first, which may be high… unless it’s for that #4/Suggs, who seems un-Canadian in temperment.
Un-Canadian in temperament? What does that even mean?
Un-Tristan Thompson. But I was probably wrong anyway so nevermind. Trash comment, too sketchy.
Suggs should be very good, so any trade for him has at least that much going for it.
If any of the article is true, Cavs are best college team in the NBA, hands down. Also, it seems to suggest that they don’t know what the hell they’re doing.
One thing the article got wrong is the rumor from Fedor is *or* the 2022 pick. This idiotic hoopsrumors site seems to think Altman is a complete imbecile.
Cavs aren’t trading the third pick, and stop saying that they are willing to trade Larry nance. He’s one of the few players that actually wants to play in Cleveland and is a very productive player!!
I’ve heard they might be willing to move him in a deal where they took on bad salary for a top 15 pick plus other future assets. But I like Nance and he definitely can have a huge role on the Cavs team.
If Mobley is the Cavs pick, I think that’s just what will happen. No one is going to trade you anything for Love due to his contract and inability to suit up. Next year’s pick, somebody else can use. ENOUGH with more draft picks for Cleveland. Sign some NBA players.
Yo straight up, this is the least prepared for an NBA draft I’ve probably ever been, arguably even when I was a kid. Tbe only players I know much of anything about, I learned literally this morning while trying to start. I got thrown off by the schedule, and for some reason thought the draft was in like 3 weeks, and tried to take a break. Was going to start preparing this weekend lol…usually takes me about 2-3 days, sometimes a little less than a week. Have had some eye stuff going on making it harder, and all of the games I saved to watch for certain players got deleted somehow in the last couple of days. Anyone that can fill me in a bit? Does it seem like there are good fits in draft ranges, or are we expecting a ton of trades this year?
Top 5 picks could be superstars or fringe all star level and only Beal,Lowry,Westbrook,Hield,Turner,Simmons seem to be the ones likely to be traded. also keep an eye on Kawhi,Cp3,Harrell to see if they resign or leave. if Harrell opts in, Lakers will put him in a package
I was mostly talking about teams moving up or down in the draft…what I see so far is teams at the top that need shooting at certain positions, and prospects that need shooting around them, so odd fits, unless there are more interchangeable rankings of certain players…lots of things working against me in trying to catch up
…and I should also add there is some redundancy with some of those teams in terms of pieces they already have, and certain draft prospects
Nets would do well if they can get rid of Jordan for #27 or Shamet, but they should get something if they trade both. All three for a decent big that doesn’t break the bank would be perfect.
Noel for all three. I do it. Sign n trade for Knicks. Jordan can backup Mitch for a yr. Then we can buy him out.
They just traded Shamet for Devon Carter and #29, so they’re probably looking to trade #27 or #29 with DJ for a smaller contract.
I think they’ll trade up for a rotation guy. Early 20s will have one. Backup PG or a 3-D wing. Cam Thomas will be there at 22-25. Guy is a walking bucket. They are moving up lol
giannis said a few years ago that alex could be better than him. maybe back then, i don’t think he thinks that anymore. except at freethrows.
