The Pistons have hired George David as the franchise’s assistant general manager, according to James Edwards III of The Athletic (Twitter link).
David will report to general manager Troy Weaver, who was hired by the organization in June of 2020. David was previously with the Pistons for nearly two decades, serving in a variety of roles. This includes being the assistant GM from 2012-14.
Detroit owns the No. 1 pick in the draft and finished this season with a 20-52 record, the worst in the Eastern Conference and second-worst in the league.
There’s more from the Eastern Conference tonight:
- Ian Begley of SNY examines the main factors of Derrick Rose‘s impending free agency. Rose helped propel the Knicks to playoff status this season, averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 assists and 26.8 minutes in 35 regular season games. He’ll be entering his 13th NBA season.
- The Pacers are finalizing a deal with Ronald Nored to join Rick Carlisle‘s staff, according to Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files. Nored most recently served as an assistant coach with Charlotte from 2018-21, though he’s been involved in coaching and player development since 2013.
- Knicks swingman RJ Barrett isn’t considered untouchable by the franchise this offseason, Marc Berman of the New York Post reports. However, Barrett – who is coming off an impressive season, averaging 17.6 points per game at just 21 years old – only figures to be available if the opportunity arises for New York to acquire a superstar.
I dont believe in Berman, but, assuming he is right this time, i think its a huge mistake to include RJ in any trade talks. He should be untoucheable and our cornerstone. Massive improvment from his first season and huge upside for a 20yr kid
The Knicks don’t want to be like Cleveland. Kevin Porter was considered untouchable around this time last year, and they probably would’ve gotten a decent trade for him, but then the Cavs ended up giving him away for nothing. Now they’re trying to trade Collin Sexton.
Kevin Porter got himself traded cuz he was an unprofessional fool and a thug. If you’re in a corporate walking around like a thug, talking s**t to GM and top level guys then you deserve to get moved. When you’re a professional basketball player and making millions you should let that street mentality go!!
Porter still getting paid buddy, that only hurt the Cavs. Your point is mute.
Feels like a planed leak letting other GM’s know they want a seat at the Big table if/when Future stars get dealt
Massive improvement you say huh! Dude went AOWL during the Hawks series!! Overrated, he moves like a f*****g robot!! H’d be 5th or 6th if it wasn’t for Zion being his teammate!
Dude went on AOL during the Hawks series! You’ve got mail dude!
Let’s bring D Rose back to Chicago where he belongs. He is exactly what the Bulls need.
Amen to that!
FACTS
I don’t see Rose going anywhere other than back to NY. His relationship with Thibs and his acceptance that he is now a bench weapon makes his fit with the Knicks almost perfect for both parties.
It’s interesting to see Rose being comfortable in NY. I remember when his first stint went south and his teammates unable to reach out to him for days. That was the triangle offense days! Phil Jackson drafted that scrub sloppy Nitkilina over Mitchell haha unreal!
Berman is an idiot. Right now, RJ is about as untouchable as it gets, and if that’s not 100% untouchable, its 100% that the Knicks are not engaging in trade talks centered on him. After next season when JR has 3 years in and is eligible for an extension in a few months, then if that remains the case, it’s meaningful.
RJ should be the only untouchable player. If Knicks trade RJ for Dame they are crazy. If Dame was 5 years younger I’d consider it. Knicks need to have a great draft and use cap space to sign a great player. Don’t trade for one like Melo and deplete all your assets. I would like to see how Luca plays in NY he could be the PG. If Knicks are lucky they can get Bouknight, Giddey or Moses Moody.
Rose is gone he’s probably ring chasing. Lakers probably get him. I know they tried to trade for him before not sure why they didn’t get Rose. Maybe Pistons wanted Kuzma and Lakers said No.
Who the FO considers part of the core will be clearer in a few months. Right now, I’d agree, it’s just RJ. But only because Randle and Mitch have contract issues that have to be resolved first. Guys that are a year away from UFA can never be even remotely untouchable for a rebuilding team.
From everything I’ve heard, the FO expects Rose to be back. You’ve heard he’s gone?
Drafting any of the guys you mention would likely require a trade up, and that might not be easy. Moody is the only one of the three I’d consider worth it.
It’s a very very slim chance but Dame and Kwawi would look great at MSG
