An ESPN report in May suggested that Victor Oladipo could resume full-contact basketball activities as soon as November following his quad tendon surgery. However, the Heat aren’t counting on him being ready for NBA games at that point, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald. Jackson says Oladipo’s camp is hopeful he’ll be able to return to action at some point between mid-December and early February.
It’s uncertain whether the Heat will make much of an effort to re-sign Oladipo, per Jackson, who notes that any deal between the two sides would likely be a “low-money” one.
Given that Oladipo may not be ready until the halfway point of the season, it’s even possible he’ll sit out the year and focus on getting healthy if he and his representatives don’t like the offers they get, Jackson writes. In that scenario, the plan would be for the two-time All-Star to get back to 100% and then return to free agency in July 2022.
Here’s more on the Heat:
- Despite some whispers that the Heat haven’t been thrilled with Tyler Herro‘s off-court social life and his work ethic, a team official told Jackson there’s no concern with the 21-year-old in that regard. “He’s a hard worker,” Jackson’s source said, adding that there are no attitude issues with Herro either.
- Some people within the Heat’s front office are extremely high on late-season signee Omer Yurtseven and believe he could develop into a skilled big man, according to Jackson. In a separate story, Jackson outlines how Yurtseven’s agent Keith Glass originally approached the Heat about his client because of the team’s strong track record for developing young players.
- Tim Hardaway Jr., who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, is intrigued by the Heat, reports Greg Sylvander of Five Reasons Sports. However, the timing of free agency and cap/contract details are viewed by the Mavericks wing and his camp as obstacles that could impede the two sides from seriously exploring a deal.
- Asked if he’ll be looking to sell his U.S. teammates on the Heat during the Tokyo Olympics, big man Bam Adebayo smiled and replied, “I might. Or they might ask me. It’s my job to be honest” (link via Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel).
Herro is 21 and just ran off from a woman he impregnated, that doesn’t sound like he’s “working hard” on being a real man at all.
Source?
Actually Herro was working out in the Heat’s practice facility last week and heard a building collapsed.. he and the coaches he was working with ran to the site of the disaster and volunteered to hand out water and supplies for hours. But believe what you want over my own lying eyes.
Given Herro, both rumors are believable. Miami should have moved him already for any of those big offers after the bubble.
SnT Trade idea
Dragic and Herro for Hardaway
So the Heat won’t give up Herro for Westbrook, they balk at giving him up for James Harden… they laugh at the idea of giving him up for Kyle Lowry… but they do it for someone who already (badly) wants to play for the Heat… the team he literally grew up with? Come on man lol
Wow…just wow!
That trade suggestion put the silly in that name.
Im not sure if was a Mavs homer.. or just someone who didn’t know THJ was born when he dad played for the heat.. and until he was in college.. was able to use the Heat facilities to train as a kid and teen. THJ was Heat culture before there was Heat culture lol
If Heat let Duncan go it may mean THJ is OTW. His athleticism would be welcome.
Heat have to sign Kawhi, otherwise they will be as good as 76ers and Celtics
Oladipo seems like he might be done. He’s been hampered by leg injuries since 18-19 and now is talking about taking the year off that he’ll turn 30 before the season has even started?
Not a great omen for an undersized 2 guard in the NBA.
I can remember in 2012 or 13… people said Steph Curry was a bust because his ankles could never stay healthy.. that he would never prove his worth because he could never stay healthy… food for thought.
Yea but Curry also shot 45% from 3 back then too. Dipo isn’t a good shooter, let alone great.
Curry was also 24-25 in 2012-13. Oladipo is 29.
How many 6-3 non-elite shooting guards are currently playing at a star level in their 30’s?
Even if Oladipo gets back to 100% health the odds are against him.
Westbrook and John Wall because of their contracts. Although wasn’t Wall shutdown to tank?
So we comparing Oladipo to Curry now?!?! You internet experts are hilarious
gotta love hindsight couch coaches…. Curry in 2012 did far less than Oladipo has by 2021
Comparing major muscles and tendons to ankle sprains is like comparing rotten apples to oranges. Although no question that the media did hype up that narrative at the time.
ankle sprains? His ankles were destroyed lol, he had multiple surgeries on them and missed almost a full year… curry still wears “ankle braces” every game he plays. In Oladipo’s case (according to his new surgeon) the first guy botched the procedure so badly, he was shocked the tendon was still attached to his body. He said it was repaired properly this time and he should be 100%… up to Victor to prove him right.
That’s why it may have been better off he left Indiana and if the Heat medical team can work wonders it may be mutually beneficial for both parties if he stays in Miami.
how the **** can you be both a heat and knicks fan?! You must be born after 2001 lol
Surfer Yeah, he’s done. Turning down the extension Houston reportedly offered was the last major NBA mistake he’ll get to make.
He downplayed that offer saying that Houston wasn’t serious about it. But Oladipo did turn down a 4-year deal from the Pacers in the $100M-$113M range. Poor guy.
Nerlens Noel must be giving him advice. These two dummies turned down a combined 200M.
I mean I would be shocked if he gets more than 15M. I see full MLE being his only real option now.
Why would Oladipo sit out for a full season and “hope” he can sign a big contract a year from now? He could sign a low value show me deal right now.. use a team (hopefully the Heat’s) facility to fully rehab.. then possibly be their “missing piece” come playoff time and explode his value, couldn’t he? I could see him maybe rehabbing privately then signing with a contender to do this… but sitting out a full season would do nothing but hurt him. It tells teams he’s scared to “bet on himself”
If Pat Riley believes Oladipo can come back mid-season healthy and signs him to a minimal contract I think I would trust his ability to turn Oladipo into a contributor. After all he still has Haslem on the roster, right? I like the slant on Yurtseven, Heat fans hoping he’s a Riley diamond in the rough find who could at least replace Olynyk’s production if nothing else.
Dallas not letting THJ go unless they get Kwahi.
Isn’t he unrestricted or is he RFA? Dallas has a new everything, they may have a different path they want to follow, no? Maybe they like Duncan Robinson who I imagine the Heat will re-sign anyway and not pursue THJ but I feel they need someone more multi-dimensional and athletic.
“Despite some whispers that the Heat haven’t been thrilled with Tyler Herro‘s off-court social life and his work ethic…”
Who could have possibly seen this coming??
Tyler should google “Chandler Parsons” and take notes
If Bam is recruiting during the Olympics, I’d love either Lillard or Beal.
We still need to get him some proven size to help out.
