During an episode of the Halfway Decent Pod, Kings forward/center Marvin Bagley III expressed no regrets about causing a stir on Twitter by liking a tweet that read “we gotta get @MB3FIVE outta Sac” and removing mentions of the Kings from his social media profiles, writes Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee.
“First of all, it’s my Twitter, bro,” Bagley said. “It’s my Twitter. It has my name on it. I can like whatever I choose and please, and whatever I feel like liking.”
According to Anderson, Bagley explained that he liked the aforementioned tweet out of frustration after watching Trae Young – who was selected three spots after Bagley in the 2018 draft – score 48 points against Milwaukee in the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals.
“As a competitor, that just makes me want to get to that and I need to be there. I want to be there bad,” Bagley said. “… For me, my personal goals and where I’m trying to get to in my career, I’ve got to make it happen. I’ve got to do everything I’ve got to do to make it happen.
“I think liking that tweet, that’s where that came from and it is what it is. People (are) going to take it and run with it. It is what it is. I did it. It’s my Twitter. I can like and do whatever I want on my account. I’m not hurting nobody. I’m not harming nobody, but you already know how the fans take stuff and want to run with something.”
Bagley, who is extension-eligible this offseason, has one year left on his rookie contract with Sacramento.
Here’s more from around the Pacific:
- Senegalese big man Biram Faye, who has been playing professionally in Spain, will participate in a pre-draft workout with the Kings on Thursday, tweets Jason Jones of The Athletic. Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee takes a more in-depth look at some of the prospects Sacramento has either interviewed or worked out so far in the pre-draft process.
- The Lakers hosted a group workout on Wednesday, auditioning Jason Preston, Cody Riley, Alan Griffin, LJ Figueroa, Matt Coleman III, and Giorgi Bezhanishvili, tweets ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. Los Angeles has just one pick in this year’s draft, at No. 22.
- Andrew Wiggins‘ name frequently pops up in Warriors-related trade rumors, but the forward’s strong showing for Canada at the recent Olympic qualifying tournament will give the franchise more to consider as it weighs Wiggins’ future, writes Kendra Andrews of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Again, Wiggins is a perfectly fine basketball player. He played 71 out of 72 games and had 3.9 win shares, making him a top 100 player in the league. Same WS as Bogdan and DeAndre Jordan.
The ONLY issue with him is he is owed 2/$65M and the team has 3 other guys also making over $25M starting next year. It is impossible to have 5 guys making over $25M a year, ergo, Wiggins is the odd man out. This has nothing to do with his talent or gameplay, its money only. If GSW want to add a big name, they have to move one of the top 4 highest paid guys, and the other 3 aint going anywhere.
And that is why they have to ALSO move Wiseman and draft choices. They can’t acquire any star without them. W’s only have small window left with their trios at their prime, and need to desperately upgrade at the expense of the team’s future.
Michol gets it’s, not like McCray who seems to think all stars cost nothing. Said this last year warriors are finished and curry will be on a different team next summer. My guess lakers or hornets
Although it makes perfect sense for the Warriors to allow Curry to walk given their enormous payroll, their fans would never forgive them if they did. In for a penny, in for a pound. They’re digging their grave with $150M luxury tax bills, so why stop now.
I think it’s weird how obsessed with the warriors checkbook you are, their accountants and owners seem less concerned, just because Houston’s owner would never pay any tax to win doesn’t mean those who do are wrong…so again it’s odd to be so obsessed with someone else’s finances
Only problem is so far there is no super star that the warriors can pick up. Can anyone name 1 that is on the trading block that wants a wiggins contract back? So far most teams are not willing to trade a super star just has beens and bench players.
And just, who knows what Klay Thompson will be when he’s back. Won’t rule anything out but I can’t imagine he’ll be his old self but 80% of klay is still a good player.
They also do not have to acquire another star, Klay Thompson is “being acquired” this season. Steph Curry unlocked a new level of greatness, he will be elite until he’s 38+, bank on it.
But also, Oubre sign and trade plus 7+14 for LaVine solves almost all problems. The new coaches who focus on development are here to get Wiseman up and ready to contribute.
“Michol”, are you a GSW fan, or do you hate them? I love when haters say “They HAVE to trade Wiseman” yeah mr hater, youd love that wouldnt you? Beware those who REALLY want GSW to trade guys, its done because they want GSW to lose games, nothing more.
If the new coaches can develop Wiseman into a player who can play alongside Steph, then the second dynasty officially begins and no other moves really need to be made.
Wiseman may become a great player but W’s dilemma is that it may not happen during the trio’s prime. W’s might be content to develop Wiseman and other potential 1st rounders, but the trio might not be satisfied because they dont have much time left.
3 options for W’s
1) No trades. Just develop young players and hope they contribute.
2) Trade all our assets for another star and try to win another title.
3) Trade Curry, Green and start total rebuilding with Wiseman as a main core.
No easy decisions.
Are you seriously arguing that someone is a perfectly fine player by comparing him to the current version of DeAndre Jordan??
They also don’t have other contracts to move, as an Oubre Sign and Trade isn’t promised, and after Wiggins(and Steph, Klay & Dray) it’s goes to Wiseman at $9.1m, the 7th pick slot($5.4m), and Looney at $5.1m before you get to Poole at $2.1m, and 6 guys making between $1.7m-$1.9m.
Any legit addition to the team is going to cost somewhere in the $8-$30m range. Wiseman+both 7($5.4m)+14($3.5m)+the Chriss TPE($1.8m)+Wanamaker TPE($2.2m) gets you $22m, so that’s why we see trades involving either Wiggins or Wiseman. Wiseman+picks gets you anyone making less than $22m, and Wiggins is for anyone like Siakam that’s making $30m.
In free agency they to chase guys like Portis/Patty Mills/James Johnson/Ariza with the MLE. A stretch big to help with spacing would be nice too, so I’m praying Love works out a buyout with Cleveland lol.
If they divide the $5.9m MLE in half and add that $2.95m to the $1.7m vet minimum makes it a more palatable $4.65m, which is still a discount for those guys but enough over the minimum to where I think they really could lure two veterans with that.
Maybe not Batum, Portis, Markieff, or Olynyk, but maybe Patty Mills? Maybe James Johnson or Trevor Ariza?
Steph/Mills/Mitchell
Klay/Poole/Lee
Wigs/Kispert
Dray/JTA/James Johnson
Loon/Wiseman/MAMUKELSHVILI(2ndRd)
at the very least better than last year’s team, though not entirely ideal.
Tbh, they’d be better off resigning Oubre and finding additional players to enhance their wide open 3pt%, which was in the 20’s in the league in shooting without a defender within 6ft. They need guys like Mills or Ellington or Ariza to hit wide open 3’s. It’d be great to add a stretch big too, so when you have draymond or even Oubre out there, you have the option to surround those guys with shooters. I think Oubre would improve upon last year’s performance as hed have another off-season in the system and Klay will help the spacing.
It just gets to the point with Wiggins deal to where if you match up his contract with the teams that can afford him, his salary is still a net negative to that team, where his athleticism and age is a bonus for an aging Golden State core.
Siakam is an upgrade, but if they want Poole and JTA and 7th pick, i doubt that adds many more wins than Wiggins did.
If it’s Wigs+Wiseman, than Toronto better be giving us Siakam and Boucher.
In fact, if they do Wiseman/Wigs for Siakam/Boucher, I’d try to throw in 7 and maybe 14 as well to get their 4th pick.
WS/48 he ranks 131 out 179 qualifiers and he is 26 so entering his prime. The contract is an albatross and GS will have to seriously sweeten the deal for some other team to ride out his contract for the next 2 years.
Its not an albtross, guys who start and play almost 100% of games arent albatrosses – thats not what that word means in sports context. Wiggins is a top 100 player because he never gets hurt – here’s a fact for you: health is actually super important. Live it, love it, learn it, never post without thinking it.
Well I suppose he is top 100 in a few things. By your logic, a GM should get 5 starters who never get injured but produce at mediocre levels at 30+ million per year. That gets you into the play in game every year with a 1st round exit and paying the luxury tax by a mile. At least your team makes the play in/offs!
Question: If putting together a team of 5 of those players is stupid then why get one of them? Does that make it just a little bit stupid?
Bagley kinda sucks, eh?
I don’t think he sucks, I just don’t think he wants to work on his game. He was lazy at Duke as well.
Advanced stats also say he sucks.
Between the sucking, laziness, and always being hurt he’s got the trifecta of bad.
Another over-hyped ex-Blue Devil who, to his credit, is making some good $$$
Someone put Marv on a good team so he can have Adam Morrison’s old job. He just wants to be there, he said nothing about helping them get there.
I repeat and repeat
Bagley is supposed to be traded one year ago
His trade value is getting worse day by day
GMs need to understand that he had Luka value 3 years ago
From the Best value to the worst value
Bagley’s trade value is probably very little at this point, and I think that’s been the case for awhile. There’s very little to like about him, both on and off the court.
At best, you get a team offering a little something blindly hoping a change of scenery will help him. But while that may be work for certain types of players, I can’t see it making any difference for Bagley. He is a losing NBA player.
“It’s my Twitter. It has my name on it. I can like whatever I choose and please, and whatever I feel like liking.”
Yes he can, but if he chooses to make those likes public like most Twitter users, he will have deal with the consequences of those decisions.
Of course if had a brain in his head he would delete Twitter forever since it has more capacity for negative reaction than positive reaction. Or use an alias to test his more potentially inflammatory comments and likes if he absolutely must share them with the public. Like I do.
I know I have said some things here that upon further review were pretty stupid, but I didn’t attach my real name or business name to those words. Everyone says stupid things at times, but to make yourself and your business a target for any weirdo out there is just something that one should not do.
I get the sentiment, but giving into this “I don’t want to attach any semi-controversial to my name so I’m gonna say things anonymously” hasn’t created any progress in any sort of discussion about anything.
Anything*
So? Why do people think their opinion should change the world? If you think your opinions are important enough to change the world, then run for political office and try to convince people your ideas have merit from a position of standing. Don’t just be some random person playing on a cell phone thinking they should have the same power to change things as the President.
Another Warriors option I have not seen much, though not very exciting is for them to only make a few minor deals and then make a bigger trade mid-season when more top players might be available. The Warriors initially thought this would be a non-playoff year until around mid-season when Wisman went out and they turned Curry way up. They can close to finishing 6th. So, if they play Curry ball even with Klay at 80% they should be sitting mid-playoff range and then pull off a bigger trade mid-season for the final run.
Bagley has expiring contract
Sign and trade Oubre and Second for Bagley
Buy a 35th pick
Why would Oubre want to sign so that he could go to the Kings????
“First of all, it’s my Twitter,!!! That’s the problem with you bust!! DA is putting numbers in NBA finals, Tray carried his team to conference final and Luka is an all star and you are out there talking about Twitter!! get your bum ass back to the gym cuz as far as I’m concerned, you’re on your way to the G-league and btw try to not get hurt this summer so you can at least play 30 games next year for the first time since you have been drafted!
Why would Wiggins “strong showing
For Canada” matter more than his NBA career arc?
I would trade Bagley for Cardi B and a 2030 2nd rounder
This would be why you are not an NBA GM. Bagley is not as good as Ayton, Luka, or Trae in his draft class, but he is far from worthless. Take away the others drafted around him and he is really a pretty good NBA player. Averaging 14 points and 7.5 boards for three straight years in the NBA and only be age 21 is nothing to sneeze at.
Although the guy does seem to be an immature idiot, he is still far from a bust.
Sure!!! It easy to average 14points and 7,5 rebounds when you only play 20 games a season!! Would like to see his numbers if he plays a full season without breaking a wrist, twisting his ankle or injuring his knees and shoulders!! Maggsey has less injuries than this clown even though he played in 90’ lol
Easy? Very few people can do that even for one game, let alone 20.
5’8 IT did better while playing full season with C’s!! Anything is possible during the regular season!
“Bagley explained that he liked the aforementioned tweet out of frustration after watching Trae Young – who was selected three spots after Bagley in the 2018 draft – score 48 points against Milwaukee in the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals.”
He got pissed off that someone selected after him is having success and he’s blaming the team for him not being successful. That is a huge red flag and really highlights Bagley’s immaturity.
Trae>Bagley ainec
Twitter and Facebook destroyed America. No one should publicly be on either, just asking for trouble.
Good on MBIII!
He can say & do whatever he likes, fans should be happy he is honest… I do love honest players, say look I don’t wanna play for your team, that’s ok, I wanna leave ’cause another team pays me more than you, that is ok… just be honest & good honest fans will be happy with you, can’t see why a fan would or could be upset he taken out any reference of his team, or says he wants out!
If he was honest than he would have answered the question as to why he liked the tweet with “i did it because i want out of Sacramento”. Instead he just made a bunch of dumb comments about how he can do what he wants on his Twitter.
This is boring. No common sense anywhere. Warriors window is closing. They will do what they need to do. The 7 th pick can help this yr. But they will make a major move. It probably starts on draft night. Draft night should be fun this yr. More than a few teams seem like they making moves. Can’t wait.
