Prior to the draft, the Warriors’ top players were reportedly urging the front office to make a major deal by using assets such the No. 7 and 14 picks in the draft. Golden State ultimately didn’t make a deal, instead drafting Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody.
Majority owner Joe Lacob said it’s “unlikely” will swing a big deal this offseason, Anthony Slater of The Athletic reports. The Warriors don’t want to give up an established star for another one.
“I know this isn’t popular with a lot of people. They think we ought to go get the next star,” Lacob said. “We already have the stars. And we have a payroll that’s — and I’ve said this when I was interviewed before, but nobody listened. It’s very unlikely, I’ve said that we’re not going to trade for anybody that people are expecting. Very unlikely.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- In the same story, Lacob said he’s ecstatic how the draft unfolded. “We’ll probably never have two lottery picks again. If we do, we’ll have a problem,” he said. “The thing that’s most amazing to me is how it worked out. I shouldn’t say where they were on our board, but it’s hard for me not to say it. I’ll just tell you they were both clearly in our top 10. We feel like we got really fortunate on Kuminga. Then with Moody, I think it’s pretty common knowledge we were seriously considering him at seven.”
- Warriors stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson attended Moody’s draft workout, Alex Didion of NBC Sports Bay Area relays. Moody also has the same representative as Draymond Green and they had conversations leading up to the draft.
- Jay Larranaga is joining Tyronn Lue’s coaching staff with the Clippers, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated tweets. Larranaga has been Brad Stevens‘ top assistant with the Celtics over the past seven seasons.

Oubre is not resigning with GSW. He already said he wants to start not be a bench player for GSW.
Is your goal to make unreadable posts
Lakers had some audace at least …even if they do wrong … This GSW FO is just Dray and a bunch of spokesmen ;)
Not even close to being true – GSW fans WISH this was true! Dray wanted them to trade the picks, not take 2 teenagers.
Reality: Its Lacob, a rich man who knows nothing about basketball, making the basketball decisions now, the ones JERRY WEST used to make. Yes, that’s right, a true GOAT of the game, one of the best basketball minds ever, replaced by a guy on the street.
Awful, awful situation in GSW right now. Get this figurehead idiot out of the major decisions!!!
You can’t trade for somebody who is not available on the trade market. Lakers threw all their cards in to get Westbrook so they better win a championship or its a big fail.
Let’s hope it’s a HUGE FAIL. LBJ winning days are over.
Lakers wanted a star to play a big3 Pelinka did it … GSW still have 70M$ Wiggins and 3 rooks + 0 picks, you may fight for the same FA anyway to build a championship roster… Pelinka took a risk, Dubs are waiting an unavailable Beal or Dame instead.
lakers will find out what GSW found out its tough playing in the NBA with no bench help. GSW now has a bench again with all the young players they have brought in. Right now Gasol is the only sure bench player they have next year. Caruso and THT are free agents and Schroder is most likely gone. That is a lot of holes to fill with minimum amount available.
I think by taking Russ Lakers go all in and maybe all wrong but GSW filling bench with rooks is not a championship move also … Those picks were GSW best shot to find good IQ players … Now a Wiggins trade is not bringing more than Russ or maybe Siakam even if Toronto could get someting more interesting now .. i just feel Dubs have waited way too much to go get the best they could have had
There wasn’t any high quality players on the market. lillard and Beal were never on the market as the rumor wanted you to believe. Simmons was too costly. Siakam is coming off a bad injury and will be out the first or 2 months. Russ would not fit the warriors at all so they did the best they could in the draft.
Everybody knows there IS no Big FA this summer it’s all about trades and cap room for next free agency. For example Memphis among others wanted to go UP in the draft why not trading #7+oubre for Valanciunas SloMo, Melton, futur picks and so on..? Because of a 18y old Kuminga who has been balling for 4years … an OKC prospect who could have gone #6
look at the Lakers Nets Bucks they are going ALL IN not drafting because they are so lucky to have 2 lottery picks.
Oh no, big fail alert ! Omg Big fail on the horizon, Lakers don’t win it all Big fail folks !!
Papers papers !! Read all about it …
Headline * Lakers BIG Fail !
Grow up, it’s time
Warriors could have made another dynasty if these two draft picks become defensive studs which looks promising
Kuminga + Wiseman = free throws
Why does everyone always talk about defense with GSW when literally only Steph and Klay can shoot? We just saw what a top 5 defense and 1 Steph Curry on offense with no one else on offense looks like – not pretty.
I would love to see them bring in Myles Turner. They don’t need a scoring center, but his ability to shoot from outside would be a perfect fit on this team. Plus his rim protection is much needed.
I liked wiseman”s 3 point form. I think with more practice he can become decent 3 point shooter for 7 footer!
When Steph will be 38 …
I would swap Wiggins for Turner so fast. We literally had no one over 6’6″ for over a month last season.
Lacob is committing to the rebuild in his head which does not match reality, where he has an MVP and DPOY in their primes. Criminal neglect by Lacob here.
I love the Warriors draft but those guys are still teenagers and it will take some years before they can be trusted with playoff minutes. Better yet, fourth quarter playoff minutes. That is why Iggy, Livingston, David West, etc. were so valuable. They can be trusted to add valuable playoff minutes. The stars cannot play the whole game and what if there is foul trouble or Draymond takes a swipe at someone’s junk? That is why they need the vets.
Wiseman and Kuminga are 3 years away but might be absolutely lethal in 3 years. Steph will be 35, which, knowing his career and how much times he missed, might mean he will be as good as he is now, but its such a moronic idea to commit to a rebuild while you have so many win-now pieces.
Lacob has no business making basketball decisions, on any level, ever. The fact that he is, is something the players union should take umbrage with. Unacceptably unprofessional and making a mockery of the league.
arc89 and me running GSW would make better choices than Lacob.
Get over yourself.
This free agent period wll be the key to the entire Warriors season. With the Lakers looking at the same guys it could be tough. This has a chance to be a very loooong season.
If the Warriors fail to get the key veterans and they keep the two rookies + James Wiseman the egg on my face will not be very attractive. I may crawl into the basement and not come out till next summer.
Lakers are a step ahead cause they moved first, Warriors have to respond Quick cause Mavs Heat Pels Knicks have cap Space …
Dinwiddie + Fournier are 2 good feats but they love NYC
S&T Oubre for Hardaway jr or Markkanen
Bring back Iggy
Big facts Gary, Lacob still has the bullets to trade for the “big superstar”, and part of me is hoping he is just waiting for the next deadline, so he can pounce on whoever the Harden is next season. But the other part of me is dreading that Lacob is literally trying to rebuild and contend at the same time, which can’t be done unless you do it right, and this isn’t how you do it right. For instance, using a roster spot on a contender on Wiseman by himself is fine, but adding 2 more Wisemans is not.
Regardless, I do not see it being “a long season” – Steph, Dray and Klay and JTA are there so the low IQ brigade of last season will be a memory. I think GSW might still win it all in the face of Lacobs horrendous team building that he has no experience or qualifications to do. Steph Curry is just that good. Adding even half of Klay is better than the literal “nothing” they had last year (Oubre ws injured when it mattered and they played an 8 man roster the last coupla months).
My fingers are crossed Marty. I’ll check the internet from the basement once in a while to see if the Warriors are within contention.
