8:56pm: Hayes was booked and charged with a felony, Lopez tweets. He was released on $25K bond at approximately 5:30 PT.
4:40pm: Pelicans big man Jaxson Hayes was arrested in the Los Angeles area after an alleged altercation with police, according to a TMZ report.
The incident occurred after police were called early Wednesday to an unspecified home due to a domestic disturbance. Hayes tried to prevent law enforcement from entering the home, according to the TMZ report, and the confrontation became so heated that a Taser was used on Hayes.
Hayes was taken to a hospital to treat minor injuries and an officer also sought medical treatment.
The Pelicans issued a statement, relayed by ESPN’s Andrew Lopez (Twitter link), which read, “We have been made aware of the incident involving Jaxson Hayes. We are working in conjunction with the NBA and Jaxson’s representatives to gather more information and will have no further comment at this time.”
Hayes, the eighth pick in the 2019 draft, appeared in 60 games this past season. He averaged 7.5 PGG and 4.3 RPG and 16.1 MPG.
That’s a huge guy to throw hands with
Not when you have guns on your hip.
Cops don’t “throw hands”, they taze bro
Jeez he actually might be tougher than I thought. Corbin bleu got HANDS!
Better Call Saul.
Get well soon Bob Odenkirk.
Felony assault on Police! Slow clap! Career toilet
police need to mind their own business. He has every right to not let some random strangers into his house. F them.
They were literally called to the home. Did you eat lead as a kid?
That doesn’t justify home entry entirely on its own! If they were called for a noise complaint like music or party, they would then have to have further evidence to enter the home, as opposed to simply requiring the noise be lowered!
It was a domestic violence call from the house…a little different than a noise complaint
Got to wait for details. The cop could have overstepped his bounds or it could have been Hayes. We know nothing at this point so it’s pointless to blame or point fingers at either.
Please stop with this logical approach to “media reports.” There is no place for that in today’s world
?
I was being sarcastic. Your take was extremely logical. Which is rare these days
Article didn’t say it was his house, so we don’t know if he had any right to keep them out either.
how to ruin your NBA career in less than 5 minutes. He should be a poster boy for what not to do in the NBA.
Showing off that high-level BBIQ. Trying to keep the police out was a very sound defensive strategy.
All kidding aside, this probably won’t end well for him. Too bad.
Let’s pause for a second and thank the Hoops Rumors staff for spending their time removing some of the foolishness that was all over this article. I appreciate you guys doing that instead of closing the comments like MLBTR does.
And it’s not just MLBTR. A lot of other sites have mimicked that trend, both sports and non-sports: TheAthletic and WaPo, for instance.
As a business owner myself, I get it. I do. Toxicity isn’t ideal. And, ultimately, it’s the idiots out there—and there are a lot of them—that ruin things for everyone.
That said, I do find it refreshing when comments and proper moderation win out in the end. It can be done. And I think some sites are too preemptive with such actions.
But what do I know, really? Easier for me to talk when I don’t know what the true financial impacts of such decisions would be. But I for one also fully support HR’s decision to keep the comments open. They deserve a lot of credit for that.
I think our relatively small community helps a lot. MLBTR has a lot more commenters, both regular and casual. I much prefer this smaller community because even though there a couple of annoying people (some would say I belong in that group), most are harmless.
Agree 100%
10x the amount of comments per thread.
The Athletic closes comments on certain topics they don’t want to turn into a sea of sewage.
Champ must not have felt better…
Between the NBA, NFL and MLB (I truly don’t follow hockey), it’s gotten to the unfortunate point where we see an article about alleged domestic disturbances and/or assault on police officers every two or three days…
Begs the question… Is the problem more prevalent now or is reporting more… accurate, for want of a better word?
I think it has always been this way to some extent, but now with Twitter and everyone having a cameraphone, that everyone now knows about and sees EVERY incident, not just one or two. And seeing these incidents is what is the key.
The Vietnam War had a lot of support in this country until people started seeing it on the news every night. Then it became tougher to stomach. It’s easy to turn a blind eye to words, but not to pictures.
He’s an idiot
okayy mr perfect
He may never live this down
I can see why Zion wants out of New Orleans. Something’s gotta be toxic down there.
David Griffin, come get your boi!
I’ll wait and reserve judgment on this. But if it’s all true, this will be another thing Zion will look at as a reason to flee the city
Professional athletes are just regular people who happen to be better – much better – at a sport than the average person. Just like regular people, some pro athletes smoke, drink, steal, laugh, cry, get jealous, slap their wives, etc… and even get the police called on them – just like regular people. Because that’s what they are.
To expect more of them because of how well they throw a football or baseball, shoot a ball thru a basket, or hit one into a cup is absurd.
No contract or amount of money can change you from being what/who you are. If you were an a$$hole before the money, you’re just gonna be a rich a$$hole now.
But, I’m not sayin anything you don’t already know.
We’ll know more tomorrow… for better or worse. Moeller kid, per Bas.Ref.
Yep… played at Moeller with the McBride kid at WVU who’s about to get drafted tonite – hopefully he’ll slip in the back of the first round.
Maybe if he boxed out on the court like he did to keep the cops out of his crib he’d probably average more than 4.3 rebounds per game.
The cops did get in, so maybe he does.
We don’t know the details. Jaxson seems like a good person. Let’t hope for the best for all involved.
So because he mention race it’s not racist. Word.
Not what I said. If you are going to just make inferences on what I meant rather than going by what I actually said, I have nothing more to say to you. Have a good day.
You replied to me bro. Lol
Your previous comments got deleted, I would assume because of racism lol.
That party must have been TOO good to fight the cops from having a look
