The Sixers have had discussions about moving the No. 28 pick in the 2021 NBA draft and are open to trading that selection in a deal for future assets or a veteran contributor, writes Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.com, who first reported that the 76ers were exploring trading their first-round selection, hears from a source that there’s a “very good chance” the pick is on the move on or before draft night. Philadelphia’s goal, Neubeck notes, is to add another starter-level player to its rotation, so even if the team trades No. 28 for future assets, it may look to flip those assets for a veteran.
Although the Sixers could be a taxpayer in 2021/22 and the No. 28 pick would give them the opportunity to add an inexpensive young player to the roster, the team feels it doesn’t have a ton of extra “developmental reps” to offer, says Neubeck. Tyrese Maxey, Matisse Thybulle, Paul Reed, and Isaiah Joe are among the young players who will be competing for rotation minutes next season.
Still, the 76ers continue to take a closer look at players who could be options at No. 28, in case they hang onto the pick. Pompey reports that Arizona State wing Josh Christopher, who ranks 33rd on ESPN’s big board, recently visited and worked out for the team.
If the Sixers do move the No. 28 pick, it won’t necessarily be involved in or related to a Ben Simmons trade, according to Neubeck, who says nothing much has changed on that front.
Philadelphia continues to set a high asking price in discussions involving Simmons and isn’t interested in trading him for a package made up of role players and draft assets. For instance, Neubeck says the Sixers wouldn’t be interested in dealing with the Kings if De’Aaron Fox wasn’t included in Sacramento’s offer. If the 76ers stick to that stance, it’s probably safe to assume Simmons won’t be a King.
Th big guy from Gonzaga that went back & played in Serbia this season would be a good addition for Philly
I personally think right now fox is better then Ben Simmons. So why would the kings even take the sixers phone calls at this point
Simmons won’t have heart with Kings.
He will demand a new trade.
The best asking price for 76ers would be
Simmons for a proven young star (or a good young player) and salary filler
Who?
So excited To see what we can get for it! Dame Liliard? Bradley Beal? Maybe make a play for Anthony Davis?
Anthony Bennet?
No Anthony Davis. He is the guy with the funny eyebrow that plays for the Lakers. He’s a PF I beleive
Or attach the pick with Ben Simmons in a trade for someone who can make them into a team capable of reaching the ECF. That’s the only way they can facilitate a trade involving him.
I am more interested in 76ers free agency
Korkmaz – 3 year $24m
Danny Green – 1 year $8m
Danny Green barely deserved the vet minimum
The idea that anyone in the 6ers front office has the goal of getting Fox back in a trade for Simmons is knee slapping funny.
But the thing armchair GMs don’t understand. The sixers don’t have to trade Simmons for used a basketball either. He is under contract for 3more years.
Why? What has Fox done in his career?
Play better than Simmons.
DeAaron Fox never achieved anything not even an all star appearance.
Simmons a three time all star, 2 all defensive first team and 1 all nba team plus led the league in steals.
Never achieved anything? He’s hit a jump shot, something Ben has “never achieved”
For my part, like any hoops fan no doubt, I will stick with Ben’s achievements right there!
And NONE of that has anything to do with Simmons being this supposed next great player, coming into the Sixers as they were nearing the end of “the process,” while Fox plays in relative obscurity in Sac, right?
Fox went for 25/7 last year…and probably wouldn’t have been too scared to take ONE shot in the final 3 games of a series in the 4th quarter when he’s supposed to be a franchise cornerstone.
I’m a Sixers fan and I can’t imagine the Kings trading Fox for Simmons unless the Sixers threw in two first rounders.
Then it’s a real good thing you’re not running the team.
That’s why it’d be a real bad idea to trade Simmons right now. His value has just been trashed. Worst case scenario, he’s just as bad next year as he was in these playoffs and I guess he losses a little more value. More likely, he plays at least a little better and you can swing him for a better package.
As a fan, I’d like to see a Simmons to Portland for CJ…but that’s probably not a tade I’d do if I was Philly just yet.
Let’s stop talking about Fox if the kings aren’t interested in dealing him let’s move along.
Look at CJ, Dame, Beal and those guys.
As for the kings.
What about DeAaron Fox, Harrison Barnes and a pair of second rounders for Brandon Ingram and Eric Bledsloe.
Kings then have all defensive Bledsloe, sharpshooter Heild, all star Ingram, Haliburton, Bagley, Holmes and the 9th pick. Would them trade the 9th pick back with the Thunder for the 16th and 18th picks. Then take Isiah Todd and Tree Mann
Pelicans like I’ve said finally split Ingram and Zion. Fox goes to the place he was Bron and grew up. His elite speed would go great with Zions athleticism and they would be a hugely exciting young duo. It would also solve the PG spot, clear Bledsloes contract for Barnes who is a more versatile, experienced, role player, and allow them to let Lonzo walk in FA.
Lol yeah you on dope
I’ve been thinking about Ingram getting moved this year too but maybe to Philly. Harris for Ingram with filler and picks to round it out?
