The Ben Simmons trade drama will extend beyond draft night and could last for much of the offseason. Appearing on ESPN’s draft coverage, Adrian Wojnarowski said the Sixers aren’t close to reaching a deal involving Simmons (Twitter link from Zach Lowe of ESPN).
Woj added that the Sixers “don’t really see anything actionable on the trade front” with Simmons so far (Twitter link from Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee). Rival teams are saying that president of basketball operations Daryl Morey wants a return comparable to what the Rockets sought for James Harden.

Simmons’ trade value is low after a disappointing shooting performance in the playoffs, but he’s only 25 and is under contract for the next four seasons. Simmons’ shot may be broken, but the rest of his game is still strong, and Morey is asking for an All-Star player in return.
Simmons and his agent are reportedly on board with trade talks that would give him a fresh start in another city. The Warriors, Heat, Wizards and Raptors are among the teams that have been linked to Simmons in trade rumors.
He is under contract for 4yrs. U don’t have to move him for a bad value deal. Smart move by sixers.
Doesn’t mean it’s a good 4yr contract. Started to spoil.
Who cares. So many teams have bad contracts. If Simmons works in his game he can flip the narrative pretty quickly. He has the skills, does he have the desire. I don’t know
Or, maybe nobody wants Ben Simmons. Gabe Kapler is looking like a pretty dumb move by Phillies.
it’s no way the 6ers go into next with Simmons on the roster
It will end up just like what happened with Harden last year. If the Sixers can’t find a team that will take Simmons, then things will just get worse and his trade value will fall even further. Not a good situation in Philly.
Raptors and Heat have nothing 76ers want
Nothing
Scottie Barnes is not worth 4. He should be 7
I’m glad my team got Kuminga and Moody. What a heck of a draft.
It’s simple, because Moreys demands are extremely delusional. Keep Ben and stay stuck in making and never winning in the playoffs
Nobody is going to pony up the return Philadelphia’s asking for, at the moment. They have no leverage.
It’s likely the most ludicrous ask in a trade I have ever seen, Simmons plays good defense and is a good passer, but you don’t even need to guard the guy unless he’s within 2 ft of the basket and even then it’s likely he will pass on an open dunk, can’t try to ship a 25 year old negative shooter and sell him as a star, if your shipping him clearly you know something is wrong about him
If Simmons is better than Westbrook, as some here seem to think, then the Sixers should be able to get a deal close to what the Wizards got from the Lakers (which really wasn’t a whole lot if you think about it). Right?
The asking price for Simmons has been ridiculous, and Morey’s credibility is going down faster than a 2-dollar lady of the night. Which one is the albatross…Simmons with his ridiculous offensive deficiency, or Morey, with his comical stupidity? I vote Morey. Simmons is a good player, just not the overall star people expected. Morey is a joke.
He can’t make a layup dude.
The irony is, with Embiid in his prime, they don’t need a 150% return on Simmons to contend.
They just need an All Star who’s a better fit. Even guys like CJM and Sexton could work.
Morey notoriously is a pure stats guy. Not sure he’s factoring in what making the Simmons drama into a full-blown circus is going to do to the team psychologically. Dragging this out is not a good move.
Morey is the idiot who believes he’s the smartest guy in the room. Idiot is now exposing himself with the outlandish demands. Time is not on his side as the longer Simmons stays on the roster the lesser his value. Especially when Doc waste away his talents on the court. Btw, I’ve exclusive rights to using the word albatross on this website.
Why is Morey an idiot when he has time on his hand? He can pick up the phone 2 weeks from now and likely get the same deals done.
What they are asking for him is insane and they will never get it. I understand they had high hopes for him but the same reason they are trying to trade him is the same reason nobody will give you what you are asking for in return. They have to know that. They are the ones pushing to trade him, it’s not the other way around where teams are desperate to get him and he’s in high demand. Guy can’t shootF he’s gotten worse and is a liability on the court in the 4th. They can either get him to work on his shot to you his trade value at the trade deadline next season be more realistic in what they’ll get in return. I think personally they should call the Warriors , ask for Wiggins and the player they drafted with the 14th pick. Maybe see if they can get a future pick and if they can great but if they can’t they are still way better because at this point those two players alone make them better than having Simmons. Wiggins is a pretty good player and would help them a lot. Take some of the offensive burden off Embid.
Here’s the problem. While I agree that Simmons’ value isn’t as low as people want it to be. Defensively alone, Ben is a difference maker. However, his value will plummet this season if the Sixers keep him and it doesn’t work out. And I mean PLUMMET. Morey is stuck in some dream where if he had just grabbed himself by the short and curly, he could have had Harden and Joel. Bad time to be a Philly fan
