The Sixers are listening to offers for Ben Simmons, but weren’t willing to accept a recent trade proposal from the Pacers, tweets Jason Dumas of KRON4 News.
According to Dumas, Indiana offered guard Malcolm Brogdon and a first-round pick in a deal for Simmons. He doesn’t specify that the pick would be this year’s, but the Pacers hold the 13th selection in the July 29 draft.
Brogdon, 28, is coming off a career-best season in both scoring (21.2 PPG) and rebounding (5.3 RPG). He can play either guard position and is known as an efficient shooter and an intelligent play-maker.
Brogdon is under contract for two more seasons and is set to earn $21.7MM next year and $22.6MM in 2022/23. The deal would provide some cap flexibility for Philadelphia, which owes Simmons more than $146MM over the next four seasons.
Trade rumors have been swirling around Simmons ever since his poor shooting performance in the playoffs. Sixers officials are saying they prefer to keep him and work to improve his shot, but they have been fielding offers, according to Dumas, who adds that they are continuing to insist on a star player in return.

Do you remember?
You are trading the worst shooter in the nba for him
Trade idea
76ers get Brogdon and Warren
Pacers get Simmons, Danny Green snt and a future First
Sixers said no the the Pacers trade proposal and you make the trade even more favourable to the Pacers????
Adding Warren for Green is not more favorable for the Pacers. In fact, it makes it worse in virtually every way (age, stats, salary, etc.)
Plus a 1st round pick too, minus the one they would have received from Indy
With the Bucks when he was 3rd option. With increased focus on him the efficiency has gone down but he is still consistently injured each season.
As a sixers fan. I’m happy they rejected the offer
I am not so certain
I’m happy they didn’t. I rather keep Simmons then make that trade
You know nothing about basketball you just like names then, Ben Simmons is a good defender but he’s immature and shoots worse than my grandma who died in 2017, brogdon would actually help the sixers and Simmons will be talking about the process that leads to nothing when he’s 35 and fading into obscurity
Sorry to hear about your grandma. My condolences.
@Lil D
I am sorry she couldn’t shoot
That is a terrible thing
She couldn’t shoot and I hear she was a terrible cook.
I remember we’d visit and she’d say “I hope you’re a hungry man because tonight we’re eating Hungry Man”. And then she’d field dress a drifter, usually with very little meat on him, often tasting of drugs or alchohol.
Now when grandpa served up hobo stew, he’d season it. Grandma never did. Like I said, awful cook. And yes, she couldn’t shoot either. It was a terrible thing.
Lol. I don’t know basketball because I don’t want a guy who FG% has dropped from 50% to 44% the last 2 years. He has injury history and seems to always be hurt. Well then I don’t know basketball.
I didn’t know that about Malcolm Brogdon
He plays about 75 % of the games the pasty few years.
Maybe another deal comes along
I know the Sixers won’t get Jamal Murray for Simmons. I wish they would, but that ain’t happening
He’s also playing, shooting and scoring more. More 3 attempts, sure, your shooting percentage is going to drop.
At least look it up first, 13. That looks like last year’s stat.
Brogdon and a First is better than Schroeder, Kuzma and 2 Firsts
CJ, two firsts and Rico for Simmons and Hill
Uncle Rico? Done deal. Say no more.
IDK that trade is pretty good for the 6ers. Brogdon can distribute, shoot, drive and plays good perimeter D. They would also pick up a 1st. They should circle back to that trade if nothing better comes up.
Agreed – hadn’t heard Brogdon mentioned yet in the Simmons sweepstakes but he’s probably a better player than Russell and maybe even McCollum given the age gap. Plus a first?
Then again Morey probably needs to weigh his options before he pulls the trigger for a “non-name”
Not a bad offer
Throw in Caris Lavert and I think that’d do it for me.
Embiid
Brogdon
Lavert
Harris
Curry
Pacers traded Dipo for LaVert and Rockets 2023 Second
Dipo has little value
Why Rockets add a pick?
Because rockets are cheap, dipo had an expiring deal
You’re right
Every trade saves money
Would LeVert replace the 1st rounder or is he in addition to it? Because if you’re proposing Brogdon, LeVert, plus the first rounder, then that is a no brainer move for the Sixers.
You’re not getting LeVert and Brogdon for Simmons!
What a joke, Simmons is owed more money than LeVert and Brogdon together and is a horrible shooter; wake up!
That’s a solid offer, with the stink of the Hawks series still strong. Philly wise to wait some, but they shouldn’t overplay their hand. Once start of season gets closer they lose leverage again if they haven’t moved him.
Best my Spurs could offer is something similar, but built around Demar Derozen and young asset.
Demar Derozan can’t shoot either
And hes a free agent
S&T easy enough.
Demar is an elite midrange shooter and scorer, but the point is taken that he’s been reluctant with the 3 ball.
Why am I doing a S&T with Ben Simmons for a 32 yr old DeRozan? Same nonsensical logic in doing a Lowry trade.
It’s not that he’s reluctant to shoot 3’s…it’s that he’s Westbrick efficiency level from beyond the arc.
That’s not saying I wouldn’t so a S&T for DeRozan, because yes he can score. But it would be more like…. Shake Milton & George Hill + part or all of the 8.1M trade exception for DeRozan.
Would DeRozan sign for the Would he sign for 9.5M MLE? If so you’re cutting George Hill and letting Danny Green Walk. If NOT, then you’re working on a S&T as mentioned above.
Trade a guy who can’t shoot for another guy who can’t shoot threes. Although a sign and trade would hard cap the Sixers so that probably won’t work for them.
Would it if they took back less salary? They’d still have access to MLE for a Lowry type no?
The problem Philly has is that Thobias’ contract messes up their books badly. So they need to replace the Simmons spot with impact player and assets. Simmons make 30M now but jumps to 38m next year, so trading now can help save that difference in the out years, possibly more depending on what come back in the trade.
I’d rather have Simmons than Brogdan and a pick all day if I’m Philly. Though, interesting idea for the Pacers.
Now that this news is broken, Brogdan almost has to be traded this offseason..
Sign and trade with Toronto
Kyle Lowry and the 4th pick for Simmons
Lowry gets his money and gets to go home (he probably would’ve led Philly to the finals at least this year)
Simmons gets a fresh start under a coach who would turn him into what he was projected to be
Philly gets the 4th pick in a 4 player draft
Simmons would do a better job shooting 3’s in Canada because they use the metric system.
4th pick itself has more trade value than Simmons
You can do
Warriors get Simmons and 4th pick
Raptors get Wiseman and Oubre and 14th
76ers get Lowry and 7th pick
Nobody is giving you anything close to that value for a 35 year old Lowry… keep dreaming
Lowry is more likely than not to have 1 more all star year, 1 more good year and then a likely half starter half bench role if you gave him a 3 year deal
In year 3 he’s a player coach who you’d be lucky to have show your young guys how to play the game.
Never again besmirch the good name of Mr Lowry.
He’s getting a statue in T.O.
Good start to the trade.
Ultimately a package of Brogdon, LaVert, and #13 would get it done. Both are injury prone. And I don’t want TJ Warren or Lamb.
Yes we (me included) have trashed Ben Simmons. But we’re trashing him for not shooting and his horrendous FT shooting. Not for his unique skillset – assists, defense, rebounding, and ability drive. But this team, the way it’s constructed does not work with Simmons as a non-shooter.
All of that still is a Top-20 player in the NBA. Not hyperbole – How many players do I think are better than Ben Simmons:
LBJ, Embiid, Jokic, KD, Harden, Giannis, Curry, AD, Doncic, Lillard, Butler, Kawhi, Tatum, Beal, KAT, PG13, Mitchell, Zion, Kyrie <Put these guys in whatever order you want, then Ben Simmons (Top-20).
Maybe the Red Cross could sponsor the 76ers!
Used to be top 20 I assume, but that is living in the past.
In no order, better than Ben as of right now (potential aside):
Gobert – a much more impactful defensive player who at least has a role he excels at offensively
CP3 – maybe not for long but right now yes
Booker – without question better
Fox – close but i’d give the nod to Fox until Ben can at least attempt a 3
Bam – no doubt more valuable right now
Ayton – after these playoffs … probably more valuable overall
Trae – no question better than BS
Middleton – would any team trade Middle for Ben straight up? Doubtful.
Jrue – closer than Middleton but still – he’s also an elite perimeter defender but with a much better all around offensive game
Randle – I hate what he did in the playoffs but he’s still the better overall player
That’s 10 right there and I could keep going – Klay and Draymond have a case, LaVine I think definitely has a case. Simmons is somewhere probably between 30 and 40 right now IMO.
I like Ben. But right now his biggest issue is he is defense only. And it’s perimeter D which I just don’t think is nearly as valuable as rim protection.
I agree he has significant non-shooting skills but until he gets over his fear of shooting none of those skills are going to be truly unleashed. On top of that right now no one has any idea if he’s going to bounce back and work his butt off from this or if he’s permanently damaged goods. I think that alone significantly lowers his value.
Gotta throw in Holiday
After the Sixers were finished laughing morey continued his ongoing discussions with Portland
Cue Damien .
The Simmons-Lillard swap would be fun. I assume Philly would be the one adding more to the pot to make it work.
Any team with Simmons has to create a team similar to Milwaukee with a stretch 5 in order to keep the inside open for Simmons. Nurkic does not fit that role so would he be moved as well?
No doubt but for those degrading simmons the league knows his value at the young age of 24. Keeping in mind Big Ben missed a year, his credentials are damn impressive
No one is trading Dame for a guy who cant play in the playoffs.
Maybe this will put an end to the nonsense that Simmons’ value has become negative. It clearly hasn’t, nor should it.
Personally, I would not have offered Brogdon (even without the pick), largely because I like Brogdon and also because I don’t see Simmons as a perimeter player (he’s not a PG, because he’s not a guard, even if he is a point). I’d have been more interested in moving Turner or Sabonis for him, though it would likely have to be a 3 way deal in that case.
Wiggins+#14 for Simmons is a better deal
Wiggins the 7 and the 14 still wouldn’t get it done lol. Not sure if I would even trade Tobias for that.
Wiggins+14 is not a good deal meathead. Nobody wants him. The Russell S&T failed and you know it, trying to move Wiggins anywhere.
That from Indiana was a better offer than what I expected for Simmons. Execs must think Simmons was not trying on purpose. But that is not a good reflection either.
Only thing Wiggins is good for is salary filler, with a Wiseman offer. But that aside, you can’t low ball Simmons, he’s 24 and his only down side is FT and 3’s(which can both be improved). If we’re being realistic his numbers for the season weren’t bad considering no FT or 3 and the fact there were games where he’d sit back and supply Harris and Embiid and get next to 0. I agree he collapsed. But is everyone forgetting “playoff PG” last year. He was a joke and look at him this year. He held on when Kawhi was out. BS has a natural ability on D and is probably up there as one of the best supplier in the league. His future can be bright. But I think he needs to move to a building team to develop his play beyond Embiid’s back up. Looked like he’s been told you can’t shoot just supply. His confidence was non existent. Even the rookie maxey had more confidence on the offence. I think Philly do need to trade him but not for peanuts.
You and Arthur Hill. Simmons has always shot poorly, but this playoffs he wasn’t trying to be active either. If you followed him, you would never get taken to the action. He just stood near the backside block and watched. So that is the new down side.
Pritchard/Pacers must think they know a fix for at least one of the downsides. Probably just the last one, though, the attitude one, and that would be to put him at PG and leave him there. Not pleasing to all the experts who want his shooting fixed.
Just leave Ben Simmons alone Doc Rivers got Harris beck on track give him this summer to work with Simmons
Brogdon is very underrated.
Not bad option for 76ers.
Idk about the pacers side. Having simmons plus sabonis, and turner in your starting 5? That’s tight spacing, even though turner can shoot, that still light on spacing.
If they traded Ben Simmons for Richard Simmons I think he’d work out.
Simmons with Myles Turner would be great especially with some shooters like Warren and LeVert. But Sixers said no and right fully that offer wasn’t even close to enough.
Possibly a three team deal I’d they find someone interested but your going to have to give up Sabonis to get Ben. Which I don’t think is a terrible idea.
Brogdon & a first is too lil’ for Simmons, but… Sabonis is way too good to be traded for Simmons, unless PHI adds a substantial sweetener in there, right?
Turning down the trade on July 1 doesn’t necessarily mean they wouldn’t accept the same trade on August 1. Turning down that trade now makes sense to try to get other teams to make a better package. It’s all a card game and bluffing… same as the Sixers saying they’re willing to keep Simmons and fix his shooting.
They’re trading him – and they DONT wanna fix his shooting and have him an improved player for his next team. Any improvement he makes in the short term will come via his own work and with sources outside of Sixer staff.
