The Hawks, who were listening to inquiries on Cam Reddish prior to the trade deadline in March, remain willing to listen to offers on Reddish and have been taking calls on the young forward, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic.
Injury issues derailed Reddish’s second NBA season, so his regular season numbers (11.2 PPG, 4.0 RPG, .365/.262/.817 shooting in 26 games) don’t look great. But the former 10th overall pick is a strong defender and has flashed untapped potential. He made 6-of-7 three-pointers and scored 21 points in the Hawks’ final playoff games against Milwaukee earlier this month.
Kirschner isn’t sure what the chances are that Reddish is dealt, but writes that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Hawks packaged the former Blue Devil with the No. 20 pick in order to move up in the draft.
Here are a few more trade-related tidbits:
- Earlier today, Sam Amick of The Athletic cited a source who named the Heat as one of the most likely landing spots for Ben Simmons in the event the Sixers move the three-time All-Star. However, another source is downplaying the likelihood of Simmons landing in Miami, according to Amick, who tweets that the 25-year-old and his camp haven’t requested any specific destinations.
- The Nuggets are comfortable with the No. 26 pick in this year’s draft, as they believe there will still be plenty of talent available at that spot, writes Mike Singer of The Denver Post. A report on Tuesday indicated that Denver has explored moving up several spots, but Singer hears that teams in the early 20s have actually contacted the Nuggets about the possibility of moving down. It doesn’t sound like Denver has been compelled by any of those offers.
- Many of the trade scenarios the Warriors have discussed involving the Nos. 7 and 14 picks are dependent on how the draft plays out and which players are on the board when those picks come up, president of basketball operations Bob Myers told reporters on Monday. Kendra Andrews of NBC Sports Bay Area has the story, with several quotes from Myers.
As a Heat fan, there isnt nearly enough assets to grab Simmons
Yeah, I agree. + it does not seem like Jimmy and Ben meshed real well. I don’t see how this pairing of 2 ball dominant facilitators would thrive in Miami even if the assets existed to get it done. I don’t see any reason to believe this rumor
Ben for Jimmy. Works for me.
I mean…if it were doable, which it isnt, you could make it work with Simmons, Butler, and Bam if they had pieces like Duncan Robinson, and another shooter, maybe 1 of Dragic or Nunn, in there. But ya, moot point
3 teams don’t have enough available assets to grab Simmons – Heat, Raptors, wizards
Hang up the phone please
Also, didn’t Ben have an issue with Jimmy running the offense in Philly? Will they get along any better in Miami, where it’s clearly Butler’s team.
Also, new article came out with a few (alleged) proposals Morey’s made so far. Not nearly enough assets is an understatement – sounds like Morey would ask Riley for Butler, Bam, Duncan, and Herro … with a future first attached.
Craziness.
Moving Reddish to move up in the draft is stupid. Unless you get into the top 5, which you’re probably not, you’re not getting anyone as talented as he is. Moving him in a Beal trade makes much more sense.
Keeping him makes the most sense
Reason to trade Reddish now
He has less value next summer due to expiring contract
2022 plan – add $70 million salary to Young, Collins and Huerta
2023 plan – add Hunter and Reddish salary
$20 million Over the luxury tax line
His contract won’t be expiring next summer
Next summer the hawks have to give him a extension or he walks
Quite frankly, if the Hawks move Reddish to get salary space because they want to bring Collins back, then they have not learned anything from their past.
Collins is quite possibly the most-overrated player in the NBA. Oooo .. woo .. he gets 16ppg and 8 rpg. He has T-Rex arms and even though he has improved on defense, it’s only because he couldn’t get worse. He constantly misses large chunks of time because he is a grabber and gets in early foul trouble .. and he was non-existent in almost half the Hawks playoff games.
Sorry, give him a big salary is just silly. Reddish is a shut down defender that plays hard all the time and is still getting better. Collins is a dime a dozen in today’s NBA. Decent rotational guy, but not a max guy.
Let him walk or sign and trade. He is just a lesser version of Abdur-Rahim and far lesser version of Kevin Willis.
It’s what I’ve been saying. What’s the point of moving up. When you can go for a vet like CJ. That’s not enough to get in top 5. Plus who at 5 is going to help next yr. Kuminga plays the 3. Scottie isn’t ready yet. Bouknight could I guess. But why not get the sure thing in CJ. Or go for broke with Beal.
And his defense is truly disruptive. If the shooting comes around under Nate, you have a very good 3-and-D guy that every contender would love to have. Why throw that chance away now before he’s had a full, healthy year under a new head coach?
You move up into the top-10 range, you’re not going to find anyone with that package except for Moody, and I think Cam still has more upside than him even if his floor is lower.
As a fan, I want the Nuggets to attach Bol Bol with their pick and trade to a team that will give him playing time. His highlights are fun to watch.
But if I’m putting myself in a GMs shoes, it isn’t worth trading away much for him or giving him immediate playing time. He only stays on the 3pt line and shoots. He also looks lazy on getting up and down the court from what I’ve seen.
Random take I know, but I read that Nuggets might attach a young player to their pick so this is my take on if it’s Bol Bol.
I like Bol Bol, he has some potential. Wouldn’t if mind Knicks gave him a chance
Oh yeah he has incredible potential still. Put him on my Cavs any day. But I guess I’m saying I would be wary of how he has played in his limited minutes if I was a GM. It makes you wonder too since Malone played Hartenstein, McGee, and then Nnaji over him. But who knows, it’s the NBA, a different team could change everything.
There’s nothing illuminating in Myers’ comments. He’s saying the obvious: We’ll sit tight and see how the draft goes, unless someone makes us an offer we can’t refuse.
Facts, he’s playing poker. I think Beal is done-deal though and it’s just posturing to see if anyone else pops up. Tomorrow night is going to be a banger to watch. So many moves are about to go down….
Like last year, he has no big plans, andcwill just pick conventionally.
Knox 19 and 58 for Reddish
Good trade
He is friend of RJ and Zion
Zion is coming to MSG in the future
Pretty sure that will end in a no.
Technically Atlanta would move up from 20…
For future reference, no one has ever traded to move up 1 place outside the top 10.
Strictly false.
2018
Hornets were set to draft 11
Clippers were set to draft 12
Clippers traded up one spot with the Hornets to grab SGA
That will end with a counter of RJ, Randle, and Mitch for Reddish.
Reddish #20 and future pick to Magic for 8
Magic can take Barnes at 5,you pick up Reddish and then take beat available big at 20 dream Jones and get a future pick
Zero chance ATL does that
Fair trade
Reddish and 20 for 8
For the sake of Hawks future salary management
Miami and the Lakers are the two teams that are constantly “rumored” to be destinations for guys … despite having next to no assets.
I mean, if you still think Tyler Herro is a future All-Star, then maybe Miami has a shot. But Herro’s work ethic has more questions than Simmons’.
I get everyone wants to play in LA and/or Miami, but I’d like to see at least one proposed trade to support some of these rumors.
Not that it matters, b/c he wouldnt be enough, and financially, it wouldnt work, but there are no questions about Herro’s work ethic…the questions are mostly about him feeling himself too much, and his issues defensively, and as a playmaker. Pretty much his best comparison is Devin Booker, which makes it questionable to pay him in an extension after next year, depending on what else they have
All Ben has to do is practice his FT’s and this team won’t need to or feel that they have to get rid of him. If he’s moved, the same problem would still be there unless he puts the effort in during the off season like Giannis, Randle and others have done to improve on their weaknesses, (maybe to 50%).just saying.
Big Ben is a 60% career in free throws, which is pretty appalling… but I fail to see how shooting 50% for him is an improvement, seems to be a massive drop to me, right?
If I’m Sixers I take Wiggins and the picks for Ben. I’d try to get a future pick too. At #7 I would take Bouknight unless Kuminga is there. Either can start next yr. Both will have great careers. At #14 I take Mitchell, Giddey, Kispert whoever is there. That’s nice haul for Ben. Wiggins can score 20 a gm for Philly. Kuminga and Harris next to Embiid is a serious front line.
I am glad you are not Philly LOL, no one really wants Wiggins
